    Do Not Murder

Text: Exodus 20:13 Speaker: Pastor Joshua Hughes  Matthew 5:21-22 Big idea: Since every human being bears the image of God, we owe every life honor and protection and must put away murder in all its forms. The 6th Commandment forbids: - First and second degree murder - Voluntary manslaughter - Involuntary manslaughter - Abortion - Euthanasia - Suicide 1. It Rests on a Foundation a) God has said so b) Human beings bear the image of God c) Love is the positive side of the prohibition 2. It Reaches into our Hearts Heidelberg Catechism: 105. Q. What does God require in the sixth commandment? A. That I neither in thought, nor in word or look, much less in deed, revile, hate, insult or kill my neighbor, whether by myself or by another; but lay aside all desire of revenge; moreover, that I harm not myself, nor willfully run into any danger. Wherefore also, to restrain murder, the magistrate is armed with the sword. 106. Q. But does this commandment only speak of killing? A. In forbidding this, however, God means to teach us that He abhors the root of murder, namely, envy, hatred, anger, and desire of revenge; and that all these are in His sight hidden murder. 107. Q. Is it then enough that we do not kill our neighbor in any such way? A. No: for in condemning envy, hatred, and anger, God requires us to love our neighbor as ourselves, to show patience, peace, meekness, mercy and kindness towards him, and, so far as we have power, to prevent his hurt; also to do good even unto our enemies. 3. It Reveals the Scandal of Redemption

    The Gravity of His Glory

Speaker: Pastor Kyle Kraeft  Text: Exodus 20:7 Big Idea: We are redeemed for the sake of his renown, so we must carry His name with the gravity of His glory. I. We must carry His name with the gravity of His glory "The fundamental problem in the evangelical world today is that God rests too inconsequentially upon the church. His truth is too distant, His grace is too ordinary, His judgment is too benign, His gospel is too easy, and His Christ is too common.” - David Wells Third Commandment Violations: 1. Weightless Worship 2. Sacrilegious Speech 3. Vacant Vowing 4. Maligning through Manipulation 5. Babel-like Blasphemy  II. We are redeemed for the sake of his renown "The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the LORD lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. So shall they put my name upon the people of Israel, and I will bless them." Numbers 6:24-26   “Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Lord GOD: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Lord GOD, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes.   [Separate] I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God.  - Ezekiel 36:22-28:
