Big Shad Are Mid-South - KZN REPORT (20 AUG '26)

Shad are undoubtedly the stars of the show right now, bringing plenty of excitement to KZN’s coastline as winter begins to wind down. Their aggressive feeding and willingness to take both bait and lures have made them a favourite target for anglers of all ages, with beaches buzzing with activity. Along the North Coast, garrick continue to headline catches, while offshore anglers are finding snoek and couta when weather conditions allow. The Central Coast has produced a steady mix of garrick, snoek, kob and geelbek, with both live bait and trolling lures delivering results. Further south, Aliwal Shoal and surrounding reefs have produced quality catches of garrick, tuna and other gamefish. With calmer seas forecast and spring approaching, conditions are shaping up for an excellent weekend of fishing along the KZN coastline. Meanwhile recent snow and rainfall across the Midlands have boosted river flows ahead of the upcoming trout season, creating optimism for anglers as spring approaches. While cooler water temperatures have slowed yellowfish activity, trout anglers continue to find success in cleaner stillwaters, with dry flies and hopper-dropper combinations producing fish. Bass anglers are also reporting improving catches from Midmar and Albert Falls Dams, along with good numbers of carp. Anglers travelling through the Midlands are reminded that Foot and Mouth Disease biosecurity protocols remain in place and should be strictly observed. #KZNFishing #KwaZuluNatalFishing #KZNCoast #DurbanFishing #NorthCoastFishing #SouthCoastFishing #ShadFishing #ShadSeason #Garrick #KobFishing #Geelbek #SnoekFishing #CoutaFishing #KingMackerel #TunaFishing #GameFishing #OffshoreFishing #SurfFishing #RockAndSurf #BeachFishing #AliwalShoal #TroutFishing #TroutSeason #Yellowfish #BassFishing #CarpFishing #MidmarDam #AlbertFalls #MidlandsFishing #FlyFishing #AnglingSouthAfrica #FishingSouthAfrica #SAFishing #FishingLife #WeekendFishing #vineshsoogreem Vinesh's website

Shad And Garrick Influx - KZN REPORT (13 AUG '26)

The recent cold front may have disrupted fishing along the KZN coastline, but there have still been plenty of rewards for anglers prepared to fish the weather windows. Shad remain the star attraction from the shore, providing non-stop action and making this the perfect time to introduce youngsters to fishing. Along the North Coast, anglers continue to report good catches of garrick, kob, snoek and couta, with live bait proving particularly effective. The Central Coast has produced a steady mix of shad, garrick and snoek, while deeper reefs continue to deliver kob and geelbek. Further south, Aliwal Shoal and surrounding reefs have produced exciting catches of garrick and tuna, with trolling lures accounting for much of the action. With calmer seas forecast, prospects for the weekend are looking increasingly promising. Meanwhile on the freshwater scene, Heavy rainfall and snowfall across the Midlands have given rivers and dams a welcome boost ahead of the trout river season opening on 1 September. Prior to the cold weather, trout anglers reported good catches, including several fish over 50cm, while yellowfish were active in the lower Umkomaas River. Bass fishing remains slow on public waters, although Inanda Dam recently produced 10 fish over the 50cm mark during a competition. Anglers travelling through the Midlands are reminded that Foot and Mouth Disease biosecurity protocols remain in place and should be strictly observed. #Podcast #FishingPodcast #FishingReport #KZNFishing #SouthAfricaFishing #Angling #FishingNews #FishingUpdates #WeekendFishing #OceanFishing #vineshsoogreem Vinesh's website

Cold Front Fires Fishing - - KZN REPORT (29 JULY '26)

The North Coast has been the standout this week, with excellent catches of kob, garrick and shad from the shore, while offshore anglers have enjoyed productive sessions on garrick and kob using live bait. Along the Central Coast, shad, grey sharks and grunter have kept anglers busy, while offshore catches of snoek, kob and geelbek continue to impress. Further south, the scent of the Sardine Run is still influencing fishing conditions, with garrick, shad and sharks featuring regularly in shore-based catches, while Aliwal Shoal and the deeper reefs are producing tuna, kingfish and rockcod. With baitfish moving along the coastline and predator activity remaining high, anglers who stay mobile and adapt to conditions are enjoying some of the best winter fishing of the season. Freshwater: A recent cold front has brought cooler conditions to the Midlands, with the possibility of snowfall in the higher Berg expected to benefit rivers and stillwaters. Trout anglers continue to report steady catches, including fish over 50cm, with Woolly Buggers and damselfly nymphs proving effective. Midmar is producing fish, while Inanda Dam is reportedly fishing exceptionally well as water temperatures rise. Anglers are reminded that Foot and Mouth Disease biosecurity measures remain in place throughout the Midlands and should be strictly observed. #KZNFishing #FishingReport #SouthAfricaFishing #WinterFishing #NorthCoastFishing #CentralCoastFishing #SouthCoastFishing #SardineRun #ShoreFishing #OffshoreFishing #RockAndSurf #BoatFishing #Kob #Garrick #Shad #Geelbek #Snoek #TunaFishing #Kingfish #Rockcod #AliwalShoal #TroutFishing #FreshwaterFishing #MidmarDam #InandaDam #FishingLife #FishingSA #CatchMoreFish #Angling #TightLines #vineshsoogreem Vinesh's website

Winters Final Act Delivers - KZN REPORT (23 JULY '26)

The KZN coastline continues to produce exciting winter fishing, with baitfish activity keeping predators on the move and anglers enjoying plenty of action from shore and offshore. Rock and surf anglers have been finding success with garrick, shad, kob, kingfish and the odd grey shark featuring prominently in catches along much of the coastline. The influence of the Sardine Run is still being felt, and while conditions can change quickly, a quiet beach can transform into a fishing hotspot in a matter of minutes as baitfish and gamefish move through the area. Offshore fishing remains equally productive. Garrick, couta and snoek have been the standout species, with live bait continuing to outperform most other methods. Further south, tuna have continued to provide thrilling action, with fast-diving lures accounting for some memorable catches. In the Midlands, cooler winter conditions are expected to return after a spell of mild weather. Yellowfish remain the primary target in the rivers while trout streams remain closed for the season. Recent reports from stillwaters show a few quality trout being landed on nymph and egg-pattern flies, while technical dry-fly fishing has also produced results. Bass fishing remains fairly slow, although Midmar, private waters and especially Inanda Dam continue to produce the occasional quality fish. As always, anglers travelling through the Midlands are reminded to comply with Foot-and-Mouth Disease biosecurity measures. Vinesh's website

Prime Winter Fishing Time - KZN REPORT (16 JULY '26)

The KwaZulu-Natal coastline is buzzing with action as Garrick continue to dominate catches from the North Coast right down to the South Coast. While anglers are still waiting for the large sardine shoals to make a proper appearance, the fishing has remained exceptional, with baitfish activity keeping predators feeding along much of the shoreline. Rock and surf anglers have been enjoying consistent catches of Garrick, kob, shad, stumpnose, kingfish and the occasional shark. Conditions can change quickly during this time of year, and a seemingly quiet stretch of beach can come alive in minutes as baitfish move through. Offshore, the action has been just as exciting. Garrick, couta and snoek have featured strongly in catches, with live bait continuing to produce the best results. Trolling lures are also accounting for good fish, while bottom anglers have found success with kob and geelbek on chokka and sardine. One of the biggest challenges offshore has been the enormous numbers of garfish in Durban waters, making it difficult for baits to reach their intended targets. Further south, tuna have provided plenty of excitement, with fast-diving lures producing some memorable encounters. In the Midlands, warmer winter conditions have kept freshwater anglers smiling. Yellowfish have been active in local rivers, with weighted nymph patterns producing some excellent fish. Trout waters continue to show promise, while bass fishing remains relatively quiet, although Inanda Dam is still producing some quality fish. With the school holidays coming to an end and favourable weather windows still on the cards, there's plenty of opportunity to get out and enjoy KZN's fantastic fishing. #KZNFishing #KwaZuluNatal #FishingSouthAfrica #SouthAfricaFishing #FishingReport #FishingUpdate #RockAndSurf #OffshoreFishing #SurfFishing #SaltwaterFishing #Garrick #Leervis #Kob #Shad #Kingfish #Couta #Snoek #Yellowfish #TroutFishing #BassFishing #InandaDam #DurbanFishing #NorthCoastKZN #SouthCoastKZN #FishingLife #TightLines #CatchOfTheDay #Angling #FishOn #GetOutFishing #vineshsoogreem Vinesh's website
