Episode 58: "This Trailer Does Not Contain Donuts" | Shane Nixon

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Shane Nixon — Nashville-based (well, Gallatin — Nashville is a "region") longtime Amplio team member, head of the box sales / gear side of the business, and the legendary bartender behind Amplio's 2021 prohibition-donut speakeasy at FILO.Shane walks us through his story: starting out as a 12-year-old bass player who wanted to be in POD and Skillet, becoming Audio Director at Metro City Church in Detroit right out of high school, following his wife to Chicago for her master's at Loyola, doing a brief unfulfilling stint as a recruiter, and being introduced to Jeff VanderGiessen through his small group after asking them to pray for what was next. Fifteen employees later, he'd land at Amplio (in 2015) — with no clear seat on the bus, just the right person for the room.Plus: Producer DJ makes his podcast debut running a wild round of "Church, Bank, Bar, or Dispensary?" — the guys have to guess what "Rise," "The Vault," "Sanctuary," "Current," "Cornerstone," and "Communion" actually are (spoiler: they were surprisingly good at spotting dispensaries).Along the way: the story of the 8x12 trailer Amplio turned into a full 1920s speakeasy at FILO 2021 to smuggle donuts past Willow's COVID food ban, the day Shane had to extract a stuck in-ear bud from a bass player's ear canal with needle-nose pliers, why every church needs a Jodi Vac, and a defense of the "right person, wrong seat" hiring philosophy that runs deep in Amplio's DNA.They talk about: 🍩 The Prohibition Donuts caper — inside the FILO 2021 speakeasy trailer 🚪 "This trailer does not contain donuts" — the greatest cover story in Amplio history 🎸 Being 12, playing bass, and wanting to be POD or Thousand Foot Krutch 🎚 Getting handed the console at Metro South before you were ready for it (and why that's the model) 🙏 The small group prayer that turned into a career at Amplio 🚌 "Right person, wrong seat" — why the best hires start without a defined role 🍔 The Cheeseburger / Gripple problem — knowing a solution exists but not knowing what to Google 📕 The Rose Brand catalog that changed the way Shane saw production forever 🎤 Why monitoring is the hardest technical AND relational problem in portable church 🎧 The Jodi Vac — and the drummer whose in-ear bud got stuck WAY too deep 👕 The Deep V-Neck Worship Pastor era (is it coming back?) 🎸 The seven-string bass player who forgot his bass 💥 The blown SB850 subs Shane got called about while in Bogotá, Colombia 📱 Church, Bank, Bar, or Dispensary? — Producer DJ's podcast debutThis episode is for anyone who's ever been thrown behind a console before they were ready, learned to Google "cheeseburger" instead of "cable clip," lived through a Christmas Eve monitor mix meltdown, or wondered if that guy on the New Life Worship album cover really was using stock Apple earbuds as his in-ears (he was).Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Shane & Amplio Box Sales📱 @shanemixinnixon on Instagram 📧 gear@ampliosystems.com — the fastest way to reach himExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com🎮 DM us game ideas for Producer DJ to run next time⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!

Episode 57: "Great Sundays Aren't Stumbled Into" | Sheldon Andrus

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Sheldon Andrus — Cleveland-based church consultant, former Executive Pastor of Experience at Union Church (where he watched attendance grow from 1,200 to 15,000+ in four years), and the author of the new book Sunday by Design: The System Behind Growing Churches.Sheldon walks us through a journey that starts with hitting record on a cassette deck as a 13-year-old in a Pentecostal megachurch, includes 13 years in marketing and advertising while serving the church "five to nine," and lands in the front row of what he calls his "PhD in leadership" — helping steward what the Outreach Magazine list named the fastest growing church in America in 2024.Now he consults with churches across the country, doing what he calls a "church audit" — arriving before call time, watching how volunteer teams interact, listening to what the worship leader says to the MD, and holding up a mirror to what most pastors never actually see about their own culture.Along the way, he drops hot takes he says he'll die on: services shouldn't run more than 90 minutes, worship shouldn't run more than 24, your church has two cultures (the one on the wall and the one you refuse to correct), and the entire New Testament is basically an argument for having a clear avatar. They talk about: ⏱ "I'll die on this hill" — the 90-minute service rule (and the 24-minute worship rule) 🚪 The six-door house analogy that explains why your next steps aren't landing 🍓 The jam study — why too much choice creates paralysis in church too 🎯 "60% of the New Testament is absolutely avatar" — Paul, Saddleback Sam, and the case for specificity 🏛 "Sundays can't be everything — they have to be specific things" 🔥 Union Church: 1,200 to 15,000 in 4 years (and what actually drove it) 📖 The book thesis: design Sunday, Monday through Saturday 🎧 What a sound check tells you about the health of a whole music ministry 🧠 "The culture of your church is what happens when the leader's not in the room" 🧱 The two cultures every church has — the one on the wall and the one you refuse to correct 🥊 "Don't do Aaron. Be Joseph." — pushing back against complaints with a way forward 🎠 The Disney chef analogy — Sunday should feel natural, not scripted 🗣 Why you have to say your next step 4–6 times in a single service 📉 The "who cares" test — a Stephen Chandler question that changes everything 🌊 Why he thinks the American church is in a revival right now — and what "radical simplicity" has to do with it.This episode is for the executive pastor stuck babysitting the worship team, the senior pastor who's stopped confronting the culture, the church planter drowning in too much programming, and anyone building a Sunday experience that should feel encountered — not endured.Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Sheldon📱 @sjandrus on Instagram📕 Sunday by Design: The System Behind Growing Churches — pre-order at sundaybydesign.comExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!

Episode 56: "Traumatized by the Past, Distracted by the Future" | Cameron Henderson

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Cameron Henderson — pastor, teacher, and creative force behind the Rockford Empowerment Center, an outreach ministry serving the 13th Ward on Rockford's west side. It's the kind of ministry you can't Instagram, can't build a strategy deck around, and can't reproduce with a bigger LED wall.Cam walks us through his story: five years of unpaid ministry through college (working for Youth for Christ to pay for college so he could keep doing ministry), building a Middle School YouTube series called "Surviving the Apocalypse" during COVID, launching young adult services in abandoned buildings around Rockford, and then getting handed the keys to something completely different — a pop-up, tear-down church for kids and families in one of Rockford's most under-resourced neighborhoods.Along the way, he gets brutally honest about what happens when you try to copy-paste megachurch DNA into a community that doesn't have the budget for it, why he cried over an LED wall he couldn't afford to buy for a summer camp, the day one person showed up to a service and his mom told him "you better preach that word," and the wife-wisdom that reframed his whole leadership: "Cameron — embrace the gift of limits."This episode is for the youth pastor without a budget, the church planter tired of the growth-hacking playbook, the leader who's been told to build for scale before they've stewarded what's in front of them — and anyone doing quiet, unmeasurable, world-changing work in the corner of the map nobody's watching.Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Cameron & the Empowerment Center📱 @c.giles.h on Instagram 🌐 cameronghenderson.com 📍 Rockford, IL — 13th Ward / west side☕ Or just show up at a coffee shop on the west side and ask for CamExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!

Episode 55: "I'm Not in the Business of Losing People" | Pastor Mike Orta

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Mike Orta — co-pastor (with his wife Tiff) of City House Church in downtown Milwaukee, former helicopter-factory worker turned 24-year-old lead pastor of a 100-year-old Presbyterian church, and one of the most refreshingly honest church planters we've had on the show.Mike walks us through a journey that reads like fiction: at 24, filling the pulpit of a small-town Presbyterian church that grew from 20 to 140 in a village of 1,000 people. Sitting bedside with an 80-year-old WWII vet named Don as he decided whether to take his wife off life support. Getting furloughed with pay from a real-estate job the very month COVID hit ("COVID was my fault"), which gave him the runway to raise $175,000 to plant a church while national church giving was down 73%. Living with his pastor's family for three years — six people in one house, his whole family in one bedroom, kids on a bunk bed — while serving as the setup-and-tear-down guy for a church plant in Orange County. And then, the philosophy that emerged from all of it: dropping his church-planting networks because their "booster rocket" metaphor for launch teams didn't sit right, refusing to build a brand, and insisting that people ARE the mission — not a means to grow one. They talk about: 🏚 Pastoring a toxic Presbyterian church at 24 (and growing it 7x) 🏥 The hospital moment that reframed what ministry is really about 🍪 Baking cookies while everyone else made COVID contingency plans 🛏 Six people, one house, three years — and one bedroom for a family of four 🗺 Choosing Milwaukee with a dollar-store map and a prayer 🛍 The TJ Maxx security guard moment God used to say "here" 💸 Raising $175K during COVID when U.S. giving was down 73% 🚀 Why he refuses the "booster rocket" model of church planting 🙏 "You can't get a miracle without putting yourself in a position to need one" 💰 Tithing weekly from the church back INTO the church 📜 The dream of one day writing to City House Church like Paul wrote to EphesusThis episode is for the church planter tired of the playbook, the pastor drowning in the tension between the auditorium and the hospital room, and anyone who needs a reminder that the mission was never numbers — it was always people.Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Mike & City House Church🏛 cityhouse.church📱 @cityhousechurch on Instagram👤 @michaelorta on Instagram 📍 123 E State St — downtown MilwaukeeExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!

Episode 54: "I Accidentally Planted a Church" | Andrew Lennon

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Andrew Lennon — lead pastor of Breakthrough Church in Lynchburg, VA, former missionary kid, recovering pre-med student, and one of the more refreshingly honest church planters we've had on the show.Andrew walks us through his unlikely journey: born in the Philippines to missionary parents, landing in Lynchburg when his dad took a job at Liberty, pursuing exercise science to become a physical therapist — and then having a bedroom encounter with the Holy Spirit that flipped the entire trajectory of his life. What started as a Presbyterian kid weeping alone in his room turned into a prayer meeting, then a house church (before house church was "a flex"), then a full-fledged church plant pulling homeless folks off Craigslist and watching the book of Acts come to life.Along the way, he gets candid about the moment God rebuked him for praying that his own church would SHRINK, the realization that his definition of "successful ministry" was just "looking like successful ministry," and why he intentionally cut a day of sermon prep so he could actually smell like his sheep. They talk about: 🛏 The bedroom encounter that rewrote his life 🏠 Accidentally planting a church (no funding, no network, no playbook) ✋ "Clean hands and a pure heart" as the only metric that matters 📉 Praying for God to shrink the church — and getting rebuked for it 🐑 Why a shepherd should smell like the sheep (and what he gave up to do it) 🪞 "Looking like a successful church" vs. looking like Jesus 🎨 Why Gen Z doesn't care about your polish — they crave authenticity 🌧 Building the ark before the rain comes 🎭 Creativity isn't just for designers — every role can be reinvented 🏙 What ministry looks like in an OVER-churched city. This episode is for the leader stuck following someone else's church-planting playbook, the creative who's been told to stay in the brand-guide box, and anyone who's ever felt like the "right" path forward wasn't actually the one God was breathing on.Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Andrew📱 @saint.lennon on Instagram⛪ @breakthrough.church🎙 The Breakthrough Podcast — sermons + conversations🌐 breakthrough.churchExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!

Episode 53: "Make Deposits Before You Ask for Withdrawals" | Serge Moskalets

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Serge — worship pastor of 20+ years, dad of four, and one of those leaders whose journey will sound familiar to anyone who's wrestled with the question, "Am I supposed to keep doing this?"Serge takes us through his story: immigrating from Russia at age five, growing up as the son of a choir director, becoming a worship pastor at 24 at Bayside Church, twelve years of building there, then selling the house and uprooting his family to San Diego for an executive role at Skyline Church during COVID — and most recently, the vulnerable return to Sacramento to help launch a smaller campus in the foothills of Auburn.Along the way, he unpacks what it actually looks like to lead healthy creative teams, how he discovered volunteers who hadn't taken a vacation in eight years (and what he did about it on day one), and why he believes his real job as a worship pastor isn't musical at all — it's being a "gatekeeper of purity" for the people his church is being asked to follow. They talk about: 🛡 The "gatekeeper of purity" calling that's bigger than music 🌴 Volunteers who hadn't taken vacation in 8 years — and what changed ⚙️ The 80/20 rule for ministry systems (systematize 80%, stay unique in 20%) 💸 "Make deposits before you ask withdrawals" — wisdom from Dennis Choi 🧹 Why vacuuming a drum kit can shift a whole team's culture 🗣 Spoon-feeding vision without throwing leadership under the bus 📆 Why worship pastors should say "we start worship on Monday" 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Not standing in the way between your kids and the church 🎯 Focusing on what only YOU can do — and letting go of everything else 💬 "What did you hear me say?" — the communication loop that changes marriages and teamsThis episode is for the worship pastor driving home thinking I want to quit, the executive leader who's lost the plot on margin, and anyone in ministry who needs a reminder that healthy rhythms don't shrink your team — they grow it.Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Serge🌐 worshipos.co — take the 5-minute leadership assessment📱 Find him on Instagram & Facebook (Serge Moskalets)⛰ Currently at Bayside Church, Auburn campusExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!

Episode 52: "You're Not Alone in the Tech Booth" | Worship Sound Guy

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Jonny and Matt — better known as the duo behind Worship Sound Guy — for a conversation about what started as a Twitter meme account in a church auditorium and has somehow turned into a 10-year movement helping church sound guys around the world feel a whole lot less alone. Johnny (Tech Director at Stone Creek Church for 15 years) and Matt (Creative Director at Northland Church in Atlanta) share their stories of getting roped into church production "just twist this knob and don't touch anything else," the wild moment they realized at a Starbucks they were both about to launch the same thing, and what's surprised them most about a decade of teaching people how to mix — namely, that the technical questions were never really the point. They get honest about the loneliness of the lone ranger tech, how to build a volunteer culture people actually want to join, and the slow, painful, beautiful work of giving away the systems you built. Plus a sidechain compression trick that'll probably change your livestream mix forever. They talk about: 🎚 From meme account to Worship Sound Guy Central — 10 years in 🤝 Why so many church techs feel isolated (and what actually helps) 🎉 The "bringing drinks to the party" analogy that reframes Sunday morning 🙋 Inviting friends to serve vs. cold lobby asks 🎬 Letting someone else mix in your room without losing your mind 🎯 Defining the sandbox so volunteers can win 🥁 Why the snare drum might be the most important fader in worship 🎛 The sidechain comp trick for livestream room mics 🏆 Mix Comp Dallas — May 21st at The Hills Church This episode is for the lone-ranger tech who's been holding it together by themselves for too long, the production director learning to delegate, and anyone who's ever wondered if there's a whole community of people who actually get what you do on a Sunday morning. Episode 51: "Stop Making Content for Other Christians" | Jon Rush

Welcome back to another episode of The Sunday's Coming Podcast! This week, Caleb and Kaleb sit down with Jon Rush — former Elevation Church pastor, founder of Scroll Company, and one of the most thought-provoking voices on church, creativity, and culture — for a conversation that goes places we did not see coming.Jon walks us through his unlikely path into ministry (think: Methodist youth group makeouts, Toronto Outpouring revivals, and an Arcade Fire video that changed everything), his years on staff at Elevation, and what it looks like now to live in Franklin, TN serving a 200-person church that intentionally doesn't market itself. Along the way, he shares some sharp — and refreshingly honest — perspective on social media, church creativity, the LED screen debates, and why so much "successful" church content is actually just impressing other Christians. This one wrestles with what it actually means to reach your city, why production matters, and how to build something transcendent on Sunday in a culture that's overwhelmed every other day of the week. They talk about: 📱 Why social media might be hurting church creativity more than helping it 🏙 Reaching your city vs. impressing the algorithm 🎬 The "Arcade Fire video" that made the gospel land for a high school girl ✝️ A theology of LED screens, stained glass, and ancient-future worship 🕊 Why Sunday should create a "sanctuary for the soul" 🤝 Growing at the speed of relationship 🎙 Why the next Mr. Beast might be sitting in your church — and what to do about it 👂 The lost art of listening in church leadershipThis episode is for pastors, creatives, production leaders, and anyone wondering how to steward the tools we have without losing sight of the people right in front of us.Because Sunday's always coming, and we're all in this together.Connect with Jon🌐 jonwrush.com📱 @jonwrush on socials🏢 Scroll Company — social-first marketing agencyExtras (Want More?)📸 Follow us on Instagram: @sundayscomingpodcast📬 Email us your guest ideas: hello@sundayscomingpodcast.com⭐️ Leave a review and share the show with your team!
