Is Affordable Housing a Crisis or a "Yawn"?

In this episode of Straight Talk, No B.S., with Matthew’s Hope, presented by Imagine Marketing, Pastor Scott and Shelley discuss whether affordability and affordable housing are a crisis or a "yawn" as President Trump suggested. The "21st Century ROAD to Housing Act" is the broadest federal effort in decades to address America's housing affordability problems. The legislation seeks to cut federal housing rules, slim-down environmental reviews, make it faster to build homes and limit the ability of corporations to buy single-family homes. The housing bill passed the Senate by a vote of 85-5 and the House approved it with a vote of 358-32. However, President Trump surprised his party by refusing to sign the bill and called it "a yawn" and "so unimportant" compared to the Save America Act which doesn't have enough Republican Support to pass. The President has also said that affordability is a "fake word", "it's all about the interest rate" and "lower the interest rates, you can have all the housing you want." Hear what makes this issue so complex, what Scott and Shelley hope to see as a result of this legislation, and what the President's comments suggest about where these issues rank on his list of priorities. Each week, Pastor Scott, Shelley and guests share their experiences from operating a homeless outreach in Florida's Orange and Brevard Counties to raise awareness and tackle some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the homeless crisis in America today. Real Faces of Homelessness with Katie Uncut

***This episode contains accounts of abuse in various forms, including sexual. Viewer discretion is advised. In this episode of Straight Talk, No B.S. with Matthew’s Hope, presented by Imagine Marketing, Pastor Scott and Shelley continue their Real Faces of Homelessness series with Katie, a current guest of Matthew’s Hope. Katie was one of our most powerful and inspirational guests to date so we wanted to bring back a special edition of what was originally a two-part appearance. Now you can hear her entire conversation with Pastor Scott and Shelley uncut. Katie shares how her life started out “normal.” Growing up in a stable home with loving parents, graduating from college, having a successful corporate job and buying her first home at age 26. But then things quickly unraveled. Her life spiraled completely out of control and she found herself homeless and eventually on the verge of death. You will hear how dramatically her life has turned around since she found her way to the Orange County campus of Matthew’s Hope and joined the Moving Forward Program. Plus how the stories and examples of other former guests of Matthew's Hope have inspired her to forge a new future of service for herself. Each week, Pastor Scott, Shelley and guests share their experiences from operating a homeless outreach in Florida's Orange and Brevard Counties to raise awareness and tackle some of the biggest misconceptions surrounding the homeless crisis in America today.
