How Saying Yes to God Started a Global Film Festival | Rob Ekno

What happens when losing everything becomes the beginning of a greater purpose? In this conversation, Kurt Luidhardt talks with Rob Ekno, an award-winning author, screenwriter, television host, and founder of the Knoxville International Christian Film Festival. Rob shares how his journey took him from a successful broadcasting career to addiction, homelessness, recovery, and a mission he never expected. After losing his career and nearly everything else to alcohol and cocaine, Rob reached his breaking point following an arrest in Rhode Island. Twenty-eight days into sobriety, he returned to the church where he had taken two dollars from the collection plate as a child. Believing for years that God was punishing him, Rob placed five dollars in the offering and made his first amends to Jesus. He has remained sober ever since. Rob later moved to Hollywood, where he spent more than three decades working in entertainment. His life changed direction again when he and his partner moved to Knoxville without knowing what they would do next. A few months later, Rob drove 11 hours to attend an awards event, where a stranger delivered an unexpected message: he was supposed to return home and immediately start a Christian film festival. With no budget, no local connections, and no experience promoting a festival, Rob launched the Knoxville International Christian Film Festival online. Within hours, submissions arrived from filmmakers around the world. What began as an online-only festival soon developed into live showcases that brought together Christian filmmakers from across the United States, Canada, and Malta. Rob also explains why film festivals matter for independent filmmakers. Creating a quality film is only part of the challenge. Without distribution, marketing, and opportunities to be seen, many meaningful projects never reach an audience. His goal is to give faith-based filmmakers recognition, community, and a platform that helps their work continue. One of the episode’s most moving stories involves a young filmmaker in recovery whose short film initially violated one of the festival’s content rules. Rather than immediately disqualifying her, Rob gave her an opportunity to revise and resubmit it. The creative change made the film even stronger, and she later traveled from Seattle with her mother to watch it screened in front of filmmakers from around the world. The conversation also explores Rob’s television work, the Knoxville chapter of the Hollywood Prayer Network, and his larger vision for a Christian event center with theaters, a production studio, workshops, scholarships, and creative opportunities for the community. If you have ever felt that your past disqualified you from making a difference, Rob’s story is a reminder that recovery, obedience, and a willingness to say yes can turn even the hardest experiences into a mission that serves others. 00:00 From Homelessness and Addiction to Sobriety 00:36 Introducing Rob Ekno 01:47 Knoxville’s Growing Christian Film Community 03:43 Losing His Career and Home to Addiction 04:53 The Night Rob Chose Sobriety 05:22 The $2 Offering and His First Amends to Jesus 08:43 Moving to Hollywood to Rebuild His Life 09:56 Why Rob Moved to Knoxville 11:15 The Unexpected Message That Changed Everything 12:26 Called to Start a Christian Film Festival 13:19 Starting With No Budget or Local Connections 16:52 Receiving International Submissions Within Hours 19:49 When an Online Festival Became a Live Showcase 21:27 Partnering With Rise Up Con 24:15 Bringing Together Filmmakers From Around the World 28:13 How the Festival Led to a Television Show 31:16 Why Christian Filmmakers Need Distribution 33:17 Giving a Young Filmmaker a Second Chance 38:36 Building the Hollywood Prayer Network in Knoxville 42:57 Sharing Your Story and Creating a Lasting Legacy 44:45 Finding New Joy and Depth in His Faith 47:07 The Vision for a Christian Event Center   Connect With Rob Ekno ●       Knoxville International Christian Film Festival ●       FilmFreeway ●       RiseUp Con ●       Hollywood Prayer Network ●       National Religious Broadcasters Convention ●       Rob Ekno’s books and testimony about sobriety 🔗 Connect with Liberty Spenders™: • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/libertyspenders • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/libertyspenders • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/libertyspenders • Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-6192506 • YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXn-vzlA03r59neWZD0ofJA • X: https://x.com/LibertySpenders   🔗 Connect with Kurt and Kristen Luidhardt: • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/luidhardts • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/luidhardts • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/luidhardts • Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@luidhardts • X: https://x.com/luidhardts Learn more about your ad choices. Why Success Can Still Leave You Empty | Matthew Potter

What happens when you achieve the business success you worked for, but still feel like something is missing? In this conversation, Kurt and Kristen Luidhardt talk with Matthew Potter, co-founder of Pray.com, about his journey from building thousands of apps and growing a successful real estate technology company to creating a digital platform designed to help people grow in faith. Matthew shares how he and his business partner worked 100-hour weeks, went three years without paying themselves, and eventually built a thriving company. Even after reaching their goals, however, Matthew began arriving at work each day feeling empty. Remembering the purpose he had felt while serving others on a mission trip led him to ask how he could use his skills for something greater. That question led to a providential coffee shop conversation with his friend Steve, who had recently become a Christian after receiving an audio sermon during a difficult season. Together, they saw the need for a digital destination where people could explore Christianity, access biblical content, pray, and connect with a community. That conversation became the beginning of Pray.com. Matthew also shares powerful stories of people whose lives and faith were changed through the app, including a woman who discovered her late brother had become a Christian and a police officer who received a shared devotional at the exact moment he was considering ending his life. The conversation also explores Pray.com’s research into prayer and mental health, why consistency may matter more than the length of a prayer, and how digital tools can support people between visits with pastors, counselors, coaches, or therapists. Matthew also discusses the future of Pray.com, including multilingual content, artificial intelligence tools based on trusted pastors and biblical teaching, animated Bible content, and a standalone app for children. If you are a Christian entrepreneur, ministry leader, technology professional, or anyone wondering how your skills can serve a greater purpose, this episode is a reminder that success becomes more meaningful when it helps other people.   00:00 When Business Success Still Feels Empty 00:37 Introducing Matthew Potter and Pray.com 02:01 What Pray.com Offers 04:01 The Reach and Impact of the Platform 05:26 Discovering a Brother’s Faith After His Death 07:39 The Devotional That Helped Save a Life 10:17 Why Acting on a Prompting Can Matter 11:02 Connecting Prayer, Science, and Mental Health 14:30 Why the Frequency of Prayer Matters 17:03 From Technology Entrepreneur to Faith-Driven Founder 18:07 Reaching His Goals but Still Feeling Empty 19:18 The Coffee Shop Conversation That Started Pray.com 21:31 Acquiring the Pray.com Domain 23:11 AI, Multilingual Content, and Digital Discipleship 25:24 Creating a Standalone Prayer App for Children 26:28 Who Pray.com Is Designed to Help 27:13 Free One-Year Access for Listeners Resources Mentioned ●       Pray.com ●       Pray.com podcasts ●       HomeStack   Connect With Matthew Potter Free one-year access for listeners: https://www.pray.com/matt Learn more about your ad choices. How to Keep Going When You Want to Quit | JT Mestdagh

What does it take to face years of surgeries, severe dyslexia, and lifelong medical challenges without allowing them to define your future? In this conversation, Kurt Luidhardt talks with JT Mestdagh, author of No Bad Days and founder of the JT Mestdagh Foundation. Born with VATER/VACTERL syndrome, JT shares how faith, family, and the right people around him helped him face difficult seasons with hope. JT also tells the story of being told he could not keep up with the other students at school, learning to read through a specialized program, and eventually becoming the author of four books. He explains why sharing your struggles can help you build a stronger tribe and why asking for support is a sign of strength, not failure. The conversation follows JT from hospital rooms to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, where illness, dehydration, and altitude sickness forced him to let someone else carry his backpack. That moment taught him an important lesson: we are not meant to carry every burden alone. JT also shares how his foundation provides medical supplies, supports families facing health challenges, and helps children with dyslexia access literacy programs. His message is simple: there are no bad days, only hard days, and we can get through them with faith and the people around us. If you are facing a health challenge, learning difference, setback, or uncertain season, this episode is a reminder that your hardest experiences can become opportunities to help others.   00:00 Intro 01:58 Being Born With VATER/VACTERL Syndrome 04:36 How Hospital Life Changed His Perspective 06:25 No Bad Days, Only Hard Days 08:14 Holding On to Faith Through Pain 09:29 Being Told He Could Not Keep Up in School 12:00 Why Sharing Your Story Builds Your Tribe 14:09 Finding the Right People to Support You 17:24 Why JT Chose to Climb Mount Kilimanjaro 21:25 The Backpack Lesson That Changed His Perspective 23:01 Crossing the Grand Canyon and Testing His Limits 24:14 How the JT Mestdagh Foundation Helps Families 26:07 The Story Behind No Bad Days 28:06 Legacy, Impact, and Giving Back Resources Mentioned • No Bad Days: Turning Your Biggest Challenges into Your Greatest Opportunities • Untether by JT Mestdagh • The JT Mestdagh Foundation • The Tattum Reading Program • Ronald McDonald House Charities   Connect With JT Mestdagh • Foundation: https://www.jtmestdaghfoundation.org • Book: https://nobaddaysbook.com • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jt_mestdagh/   🔗 Connect with Liberty Spenders™: • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/libertyspenders • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/libertyspenders • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/libertyspenders • Rumble: https://rumble.com/c/c-6192506 • YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXn-vzlA03r59neWZD0ofJA • X: https://x.com/LibertySpenders   🔗 Connect with Kurt and Kristen Luidhardt: • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/luidhardts • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/luidhardts • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/luidhardts • Truth Social: https://truthsocial.com/@luidhardts • X: https://x.com/luidhardts Learn more about your ad choices. Why True Freedom Begins With Surrender

What if the next level of your business and faith begins when you stop trying to control everything? In this conversation, Kurt Luidhardt talks with Matt Fagioli, serial entrepreneur, bestselling author, and founder of Certain Success. Matt shares how a difficult season of business and relationship failures led to a powerful encounter with God in a hotel room in Rome and eventually inspired his book, Dirty Disciple. Matt explains why financial freedom alone often feels incomplete, what it means to surrender your plans to God, and how entrepreneurs can build businesses around faith, mission, and meaningful impact. He also discusses how virtual events can help purpose-driven leaders reach the right audience, establish trust, and sell higher-value offers without relying on large in-person conferences. The conversation also explores the difference between webinars and multi-day virtual events, why credibility matters more than celebrity speakers, and how artificial intelligence may reshape jobs and creativity. Matt encourages business leaders to develop a deeper relationship with God, trust their intuition, and move toward the work they feel called to do.
