Halfway To Dead, A Midlife Spiritual Journey

Jen Lovell

Let’s have a moment of real talk. Life is fucking hard. You and I didn’t get to midlife without hitting a few bumps in the road. Sure, on the surface your life seems pretty great. You’ve accomplished some amazing things. But dig a little deeper and we’ve been through some shit. I’m talking big T traumas. We armored up and battled through…it’s worked for us…until now.  Now, you and I have reached the age where we are done with all the bullshit. Time feels more precious and we have the wisdom to know we aren’t going to live forever.  That’s OK because you and I plan on finishing this life strong.  Midlife is our chance to flip the script and experience life on our terms. It’s time to reconnect with our highest selves and reclaim our inner peace. A spiritual journey or a spiritual awakening isn’t about religion. It’s about connecting with yourself and your higher power directly. It’s not just about the woo-woo stuff either. Don’t get me wrong, we are going to explore all things woo-woo…like tapping into our intuition, meditation, manifesting, how to connect with your spirit team, human design, reiki, past lives and so much more. For you and I, it also means figuring out how to love and care for our aging bodies. Plus, it’s time for us to break free from the bubble we've been living in and open our hearts and minds to the world around us. We can change things for the better as a collective. Basically, it’s time for us to become better fucking people. When we know better, we can do better. Every person’s journey is unique. You may have no idea what your spiritual journey is going to look like. That’s OK, we’re going to figure this out together. We’ll laugh, we’ll cry, and we’ll use too much profanity.  That’s just how we roll. Are you ready?  Awesome. Hop in and ride shotgun with me as we transform and grow through enlightened conversations, practical tips, and inspiring stories. It’s time to embark on this midlife spiritual journey together!

  1. After The Awakening, Now What?

    1D AGO

    After The Awakening, Now What?

Ever felt wildly awake and yet still stuck answering emails and feeding the dog? That dissonance is the integration gap—the space between a life-changing insight and a life that actually reflects it. We explore how midlife awakening dismantles old lenses like people pleasing and approval chasing while leaving the ordinary scaffolding—jobs, bills, relationships—intact, and how to live honestly inside that reality without burning it all down. I walk through what integration really looks like: faster recovery after triggers, boundaries that get quieter because they’re kept, and a spirituality that’s less dramatic and more truthful. We name the grief that follows awakening—grieving the self who didn’t know better, the years spent performing, and ties that fit old rules but not new truth. Instead of chasing instant zen, we build stability first so peace has somewhere to land. That means caring for the nervous system with the most unglamorous tools: consistent sleep, supportive food, movement that clears emotion, and simple routines that help your body trust you again. You’ll also hear a grounded decision-making framework that favors discernment over destruction. Urgent, righteous energy often signals a dysregulated system, not clarity. We pause, tell the truth, and ask: what truth am I not living inside this structure? Sometimes the structure changes; sometimes our performance within it does. I share reflection prompts you can take into journaling, meditation, or a long drive to help you notice where life feels less true, where grief needs time, and what stability looks like right now. If you’re feeling disconnected from your old motivators, you’re not broken—you’re recalibrating. Clear eyes, open heart, one honest step at a time. If this resonates, hit subscribe or follow, drop a five-star rating, and share your thoughts. What’s one small shift you’re ready to make today? 2. What Phase of Your Spiritual Awakening Are You In?

    JAN 29

What Phase of Your Spiritual Awakening Are You In?

The quiet ache you feel isn’t failure—it’s a summons. We trace a clear, human path through the six phases of spiritual awakening in midlife, weaving Jen’s personal catalysts with grounded tools that trade chaos for clarity. From the first jolt of “there has to be more” to the steady hum of alignment, this conversation demystifies awakening and makes it practical: how to explore new practices without losing yourself, when to pause big decisions, and why deep therapy and daily rituals unlock real change. We begin with why the pull hits so hard at this stage of life—identity shifts, loss, health scares, and the eerie emptiness of “having it all.” Then we move into exploration with discernment: meditation, yoga, sound baths, and the bold act of asking for unmistakable signs. Jen shares her own story—career upheaval, reopened wounds, and the surprising signs that built trust—before guiding us into the gritty heart-work of phase three. Think IFS therapy, boundaries, deconstructing rigid beliefs, and the wisdom of hibernation when your nervous system needs space. As healing takes root, integration follows. Creativity returns, community arrives, and meditation deepens from stress relief to a genuine relationship with spirit—guides, synchronicities, and a felt oneness that changes how you move through the world. From there, aligned action becomes natural: saying no without apology, reshaping work and relationships, and serving others because overflow wants somewhere to go. We also name the trap of spiritual bypassing and why true growth makes you more compassionate, not more performative. If you’ve wondered where you are on the path—or how to take the next step without burning it all down—this is your roadmap. And if you have like 30 seconds more could you leave a five star rating and maybe leave a kick ass review? Let's Connect! Hi! I’m Andrea Rorabaugh — but most people call me Annie. I’m a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a passion for functional medicine and true healing at the root cause. Before becoming an FNP, I spent 10 years working as a registered nurse, primarily in intensive care for both adults and pediatrics. Nursing took me all over the country, working with some of the largest healthcare systems — and seeing firsthand how often symptoms were treated without addressing why people were sick in the first place. That experience sparked a fire in me. I went back to school to earn my Master’s in Nursing with a focus on Family Practice, excited to care for people in a deeper and more meaningful way. I worked in urgent care and pediatrics for several years, but I constantly felt something missing. I became a nurse to truly help people heal — not just manage illness — and I knew there had to be a better approach. That’s when I discovered functional medicine… and found my calling. Today, I’m proud to run my own functional medicine practice — Back to Our Roots . I’m continually learning, researching, and expanding my knowledge so I can empower my patients to feel their best, live with energy and joy, and get back to the foundational things that support lasting wellness. 4. Functional Medicine For Women Who Want Real Answers with Annie Rorabaugh

Functional Medicine For Women Who Want Real Answers with Annie Rorabaugh

Feeling “fine” on paper but lousy in real life? We dig into why so many midlife women are dismissed by normal lab results and how functional medicine maps what’s actually going on—hormones, gut health, sleep, stress, and blood sugar—so you can finally feel like yourself again. Our guest, family nurse practitioner Andrea “Annie” Rorabaugh, breaks down the tools she uses to get real results without piling on more prescriptions. We start with clarity. Annie explains how the DUTCH test reveals estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol patterns across the day and how your body detoxes them. Then we explore the Organic Acids Test to spot nutrient gaps, yeast overgrowth, and environmental toxins that keep energy low. Her favorite, the GI Map, shows parasites, dysbiosis, enzymes, leaky gut markers like zonulin, and the gut‑immune signals that drive skin, mood, and hormone chaos. With data in hand, she builds a plan that often begins with whole food and a simple elimination to identify true triggers. From there, we get practical about the habits that move the needle. You’ll hear why a daily 12‑hour fast is a smart baseline and how occasional dinner‑to‑dinner fasts can reset insulin resistance and inflammation. We talk protein targets of 30 to 40 grams per meal, weight training to protect bones post‑estrogen, and how magnesium plus calming adaptogens (ashwagandha, rhodiola, holy basil) can support sleep and stress. Annie’s sleep playbook is refreshingly doable: warm lights at night, cool rooms, blue‑blocking glasses, and morning sunlight to reset circadian rhythm. We also cover blood sugar’s link to brain health, why some call Alzheimer’s “type 3 diabetes,” and how community and stress relief—think breathwork, journaling, walks, humming for the vagus nerve—quiet the system fast. If you’re tired of band‑aids and want a path that respects your time, budget, and biology, this conversation gives you a clear start: food first, sleep sacred, stress daily, lift something heavy, and test only what guides action. Subscribe to catch new episodes, share this with a friend who needs a nudge, and leave a quick review to help more midlife listeners find us. Your body can heal—let’s give it what it needs. 6. Season 2...Jen's Back!!!

    JAN 7

    Season 2...Jen's Back!!!

Ready for a reboot that starts with rest instead of hustle? Jen kicks off season two by sharing her truth; sometimes the most powerful move is to hibernate, listen to your intuition, and let alignment find you. Jen's pause started after a pilgrimage to Egypt—into the Great Pyramid at 2 a.m., to sunrise by the Sphinx, and onto a wooden boat on the Nile under a blood moon—yet the heartbeat of the journey was the sisterhood of sixteen women who turned a bus into a moving sanctuary. I share how a young singer’s voice filled the King’s Chamber like a tuning fork, why the Sphinx’s energy surprised me from an unexpected excavation site, and what fertility temples taught us about devotion, patience, and quiet ritual. We talk Sekhmet and Hathor, subtle downloads, and the gritty side of travel too: navigating toxic masculinity, spotting spiritual bypassing, and choosing boundaries without closing your heart. Along the way, we swap glossy “transformation” for something real: presence, play, and the courage to admit you’re still integrating. Most of all, I make a case for accessible growth. You don’t need a passport to evolve; you need curiosity, community, and a willingness to follow the pull—into a new breathwork class, a local retreat, or a circle where strangers become mirrors. Season two is stacked with guests, collabs, and deeper dives into these themes, but it starts here, with a reminder to honor winter, trust your inner compass, and let sisterhood amplify your path. If this resonates, hit follow, share it with a friend who’s craving a reset, and leave a review so more midlife seekers can find us. What sacred place—or practice—is calling you next?
