When We Thirst: Finding God in the Wilderness | Lakeside Light Podcast

Lakeside Presbyterian Church — September 27, 2026 What happens when the journey becomes difficult and we begin to wonder whether God is really with us? This week's readings take us into the wilderness. In Exodus 17:1–7, the Israelites arrive at a place where there is no water. Their frustration quickly turns into fear and accusation. They ask whether God is truly among them. Yet God responds to their need, providing water from the rock. In Philippians 2:1–13, Paul offers a different but connected challenge: when circumstances are difficult, how do we live together? He calls the church toward humility, compassion, unity, and self-giving love, placing Christ's example at the center. Together, these passages invite us to consider two important questions: Can we trust God's presence when life feels like a wilderness? And can we become people who respond to one another with the humility and love of Christ? Listen as we explore faith, doubt, thirst, community, humility, and the surprising ways God meets us in difficult places. No Fair! The Math of Forgiveness — Part 2 | Lakeside Light Podcast

In Part 2 of Lakeside Church's three-part series, No Fair! The Math of Forgiveness, we explore the challenging and liberating biblical call to forgive. Peter wants to know how many times he is required to forgive. Jesus' response in Matthew 18:21–35 challenges the very idea that forgiveness should be measured by a limit or a scoreboard. Through the parable of the unforgiving servant, Jesus contrasts the enormous mercy one servant receives with his refusal to extend mercy to another. Romans 14:1–12 broadens the message by reminding us that we are not called to sit in judgment over one another. God is the ultimate judge, and our calling is to welcome one another and live faithfully in light of God's grace. In This Episode Why forgiveness can feel unfairPeter's question about the limits of forgivenessJesus' teaching on unlimited forgivenessThe parable of the unforgiving servantThe difference between receiving grace and extending graceWhy Romans 14 warns us against judging othersForgiveness, justice, boundaries, and reconciliationWhat it means to stop keeping scoreHow God's grace changes the mathematics of our relationshipsScripture Romans 14:1–12 Matthew 18:21–35 Series No Fair! This week's message explores Romans 13:8–14 and Matthew 18:15–20, two passages that challenge us to take love seriously—not simply as an emotion, but as a way of living with one another. Paul reminds us that love fulfills God's law. Jesus gives his followers a practical approach to conflict, calling us to address problems directly, listen to one another, and seek restoration within the community. These passages remind us that Christian community doesn't mean we will never disagree. It means we have a different way of responding when disagreement happens. Scripture Romans 13:8–14 Matthew 18:15–20 Questions for Reflection What does it mean to truly love our neighbor? How do we respond when someone has hurt us?Can we disagree without destroying our relationships? What is the difference between confrontation and reconciliation? How can we speak truth while remaining people of love and grace? What does it mean to remember that Christ is present when we gather?Key Takeaway Christian love is not passive. Love gives us the courage to seek truth, reconciliation, forgiveness, and restoration. Thank you for joining the Lakeside Light Podcast.
