Things you can learn about someone in 7 days of dating .

Pay attention to the first seven days when you are dating somebody before you get too emotionally invested in them. I am not asking you to judge or treat every imperfection as a red flag. That’s not the point. I study behavior in relationships and marriage, and there are certain things I wish more people would notice early on. Some things that are easy to dismiss in the beginning can become much harder to ignore months or even years later. I’ve heard people in struggling marriages say things like: “I knew something felt off.” “I saw it, but I ignored it.” “How did I miss that?” Usually what happens is that they did notice something, they just didn’t know what to do with it. You don’t have to become suspicious of everyone you date. You just need to become more observant. ***Personal stories are shared only with permission from the individuals or couples involved. “I don’t want to get married. But I do!” Let’s talk about it.

More and more people in midlife are choosing to live together without getting married. And the reasons they give can sound rational. “I don’t need a piece of paper. Why change something that already works?” But there is another side to this too. What about the person who wants marriage?  There is something underneath that desire too? In this episode, I look at both sides of the marriage question. Why do some people avoid marriage? Why do others want it? And what happens when one person wants marriage and the other doesn't? I share real stories of couples who found themselves in exactly these situations and what happened when we looked a little deeper into their reasons. When you listen to the full episode, you will start looking at your own relationship a little differently. It will also make you think deeply about why you want or don't want marriage. ***Personal stories are shared only with permission from the individuals or couples involved.
