Ga naar www.youtube.com/@segstories.  In een open en persoonlijk interview spreekt de kersverse bondscoach van Curaçao Fred Rutten over de onverwachte wending in zijn carrière, zijn plan van aanpak voor het komende WK en de kansen op een historische stunt.  De 63-jarige Tukker neemt het stokje over van Dick Advocaat, die hem persoonlijk voordroeg. “Ik heb Dick opgezocht in Badhoevedorp, we hebben koffie gedronken en gepraat. Zet twee voetbalmensen bij elkaar en het geeft meteen goed gevoel.” Rutten realiseert zich dat de tijd ontbreekt om het Curaçaose nationale elftal helemaal naar zijn hand te zetten. “Het zou onverstandig zijn om nu mijn eigen ding te doen. Daar creëer je alleen onrust mee. Toch wil ik mijn eigen sjuutje eroverheen gieten.”   Ondanks de kink in de voorbereiding ziet Rutten het WK als een mooi avontuur. “Ik heb altijd de wens gehad om op een WK aanwezig te zijn. En ik heb het kleedkamergevoel gemist. De humor. Ik kom straks in een van de leukste kleedkamers.” Rutten is optimistisch over de kansen voor Curaçao: “We spelen drie wedstrijden, dat zijn drie kansen om iets mogelijk te maken wat niemand in de wereld voor mogelijk houdt. Begin 2024 werd hij getroffen door een ingrijpend persoonlijk verlies. Zijn vriendin stapte op jonge leeftijd uit het leven, hem achterlatend met hun twee kleine kinderen. In de SEG Stories podcast van deze week spreekt Danny voor het eerst openhartig over de enorme impact die deze gebeurtenis had.  Zo’n zes jaar geleden werd duidelijk dat de depressieve gevoelens van zijn vriendin steeds erger werden. “Ze was een hartstikke lief persoon, maar ze kon zich verschrikkelijk veel zorgen maken. Als je het zelf niet hebt begrijp je het niet, wordt gezegd. Dat klopt, ik kon het moeilijk begrijpen. Ik kon haar alleen bijstaan.”  Op de dag dat het gebeurde waren Danny en zijn twee zoontjes niet thuis. Hij besloot het ze nog dezelfde dag te vertellen. “Ik wilde niet dat ze zouden gaan slapen en denken: morgen gaan we gewoon naar huis. Dat vond ik niet eerlijk.” De eerste maanden zette hij zijn eigen emoties opzij. Alle aandacht ging naar de kinderen. Later kwam er meer ruimte voor verwerking. “Ik heb een jaar therapie gehad, dat heeft me veel goed gedaan. Maar ik zal het altijd met me meedragen.”  Nu, twee jaar later, kan hij weer naar de toekomst kijken. “Het klinkt misschien raar, maar ik kan oprecht zeggen dat ik weer gelukkig ben. Nu wil ik onderzoeken wat ik kan gaan doen. Het zou mooi zijn als ik mijn kennis van voetbal ergens kan inzetten.” ~~~ Denk je aan zelfmoord of maak je je zorgen om iemand? In 2024, he was struck by a profound personal loss. His partner took her own life at a young age, leaving him to raise their two young children alone. In this week’s SEG Stories podcast, Danny speaks openly for the first time about the immense impact this had on his life. Around six years ago, it became clear that his partner’s depressive feelings were getting worse. “She was a very kind person, but she worried a lot. People say that if you haven’t experienced it yourself, you can’t fully understand it. That’s true. I found it hard to understand. All I could do was support her.” On the day it happened, Danny and his two sons were not at home. He decided to tell them that same day. “I didn’t want them to go to sleep thinking we would just go home the next day. That didn’t feel right.” In the first months, he put his own emotions aside, focusing entirely on his children. Later, there was more space for processing everything. “I had a year of therapy, which helped me a lot. But I will always carry this with me.”  Now, two years later, he is able to look ahead again. “It might sound strange, but I can honestly say that I am happy again. Now I want to explore what I want to do next. Thijs Molendijk werd tweemaal Europees kampioen met het virtuele kaartspel en haalde in 2015 de halve finale van het WK. Hij is nog steeds competitief Hearthstone-speler maar legt zich tegenwoordig meer toe op streaming en content creation. En dus heeft hij eindelijk tijd om plaats te nemen achter de microfoon van de podcast SEG Stories voor een goed gesprek met host Joost Hofman. Thijs spreekt onder meer openhartig over zijn schooltijd, die niet altijd even prettig was voor hem. “Ik was introvert, werd gepest en ontwikkelde een eetstoornis. Van m'n tiende tot m'n zestiende was gewoon geen leuke tijd. Mijn plezier haalde ik uit gamen en ik werd steeds beter.” In 2018 won hij tijdens een groot toernooi een Aston Martin, een prestigieuze Engelse sportbolide. “Een prachtige auto, maar ik dacht: wat moet ik ermee? Daarom koos ik voor een mooi geldbedrag.” Een van de hoogtepunten uit zijn carrière was toen hij in 2015 Europees kampioen werd. “Opeens begonnen er in dat stadion 10.000 man te applaudisseren. Ik was nog steeds zo gefocust op de wedstrijd dat ik het niet doorhad. Thijs Molendijk became European champion twice with the virtual card game and reached the semi-finals of the World Championship in 2015. He is still a competitive Hearthstone player, but nowadays he focuses more on streaming and content creation. And so, he finally had time to sit down behind the microphone of the podcast SEG Stories for an in-depth conversation with host Joost Hofman. Thijs speaks candidly about his school years, which were not always easy for him. “I was introverted, got bullied and developed an eating disorder. From age ten to sixteen just wasn’t a fun time. I found joy in gaming and kept getting better.” In 2018, he won an Aston Martin, a prestigious English sports car, at a major tournament. “A beautiful car, but I thought: what am I going to do with it? So I chose a nice sum of money instead.” One of the highlights of his career was becoming European champion in 2015. “Suddenly, 10,000 people in that stadium started applauding. I was still so focused on the match that I didn’t even notice. SEG verbindt zich voor drie jaar aan CyclingClassNL als performancepartner en sponsor. Gezamenlijk doel is om Nederlands wielertalent optimaal voor te bereiden op een carrière als profrenner.  CyclingClassNL is een topsportprogramma voor de meest talentvolle wielerjunioren van Nederland. De jonge renners volgen dagelijks een trainingsprogramma en krijgen daarnaast begeleiding op het gebied van voeding en persoonlijke ontwikkeling.  De samenwerking houdt in dat SEG zijn Performance Lab en Cycling Lab in Amsterdam openstelt voor de renners van CyclingClassNL. In de SEG Stories podcast van deze week vertelt Willem over zijn geslaagde gastoptredens op Lowlands 2025, over hoe anders hij naar het leven kijkt dan tien jaar geleden, en over zijn nieuwe albums die in de maak zijn: één solo en één met The Opposites.  Zijn nieuwe soloalbum wordt het eerste na Man in Nood uit 2018, waarin hij rapte over zijn persoonlijke demonen. Met het nieuwe album sluit hij die donkere periode definitief af. “Wat er tien jaar geleden is gebeurd en hoe ik toen was, daar zit ik nu totaal niet meer met mijn hoofd. Het nieuwe album wordt heel anders. Er zit veel meer licht in, de energie is veel hoger. Veel invloeden van de Cariben.”  “Man in Nood was een periode. Mijn oeuvre bestaat niet alleen uit depressieve liedjes. Het grootste deel bestaat uit: fok it, let’s go en nu gaan we met z’n allen gewoon helemaal kapot. Daar wil ik naar terug. Gewoon keihard beuken. Met The Opposites maar ook solo.” Hij heeft vrede gesloten met de chaos die soms in zijn hoofd zit. “Ik besef dat in de knoop zitten erbij hoort. Het kan iets moois zijn waar je vurig en enthousiast en met liefde in kan zitten. Ondertussen probeer ik ook een beter mens te worden. In de SEG Stories podcast van deze week haalt Jon Dahl Tomasson herinneringen op uit zijn carrière als speler en geeft hij en passant een masterclass coachen. Jon Dahl speelde vanaf 1998 vier seizoenen bij Feyenoord. Rotterdam bleek een stad te zijn die hem past als een warme jas. “Een rauwe stad. Ik hield daarvan. En nog steeds, want ik woon er.” Andere herinneringen aan de Maasstad? “Op de Coolsingel ‘Hand in hand’ zingen na het winnen van de UEFA Cup. Ik weet de complete tekst nog uit mijn hoofd.” Bij Heerenveen leerde Jon Dahl van trainer Foppe de Haan hoe een coach met zijn spelersgroep moet omgaan. “We spraken er veel over als ik bij hem in de auto zat. Enige nadeel: Foppe had de gewoonte mij aan te kijken als hij aan het vertellen was, terwijl hij met 120 km per uur over de snelweg reed. Dat was een beetje gevaarlijk. Als bondscoach van Zweden kreeg hij de opdracht het zwalkende nationale elftal weer op de rails te krijgen. Dat lukte. “De basis van coachen is kennis van je spelers. Ik volg met mijn staf continu 55 spelers. We kijken en analyseren alle wedstrijden, bijna tweeduizend per jaar. Vermoeiend? Helemaal niet. Ik ben gek op het spelletje. In this week’s SEG Stories podcast, Jon Dahl Tomasson reflects on his playing career and throws in a masterclass in coaching while he's at it. Jon Dahl played four seasons at Feyenoord, starting in 1998. Rotterdam turned out to be a city that suits him like a warm coat. “A rough city. I loved that. And I still do — I live there.” Other memories from the city on the Maas? “Singing ‘Hand in hand’ on the Coolsingel after winning the UEFA Cup. I can’t sing, but I still know the lyrics by heart.” At sc Heerenveen, Jon Dahl picked up valuable lessons on team management from coach Foppe de Haan. “We had lots of discussions in the car during trips. The only downside: Foppe had the habit of looking at me while he spoke, even when he was driving 120 km/h on the motorway. That was a bit dangerous.” As Sweden’s national coach, his task was getting the struggling team back on track. And he succeeded. “The foundation of coaching is knowing your players. Together with my staff, I continuously monitor 55 players. We watch and analyse every match—almost two thousand a year. Tiring? Not at all. I’m madly in love with the game.
