84½ and Still Thriving: Michael Dorfman on Longevity, Purpose, and Plant-Based Living

At 84½ years old, Michael Dorfman is still writing books, playing pickleball, experimenting with new health practices, learning from his children, and asking what else might help him live well. In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier talks with Michael about his decades-long journey from vegetarianism to plant-based living, what sparked his interest in longevity, and why he believes aging should not automatically mean accepting chronic disease, inactivity, or a loss of purpose. Their conversation moves beyond food into the broader ingredients of a vibrant life: movement, community, stress management, marriage, mindset, curiosity, meaningful work, and continuing to learn no matter your age. Michael also shares what he has learned from studying longevity communities around the world and why, at this stage of his life, he sees health as something we participate in rather than something we simply hope to keep. Important Note This episode includes discussion of plant-based nutrition, supplements, fasting, chronic disease, stress, cardiovascular health, longevity practices, and other health-related approaches. 86 Years in the UP: Alice Lajoie on Family, Faith, the Gossard Girls, and a Life Well Lived

At 86 years old, Alice Lajoie has lived through a remarkable amount of change, but some of the things she values most have remained surprisingly constant: family, faith, hard work, humor, and showing up for the people you love. In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier sits down with Alice for a warm trip through more than eight decades of life in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. From growing up in Ishpeming as one of eleven children to becoming one of the women who worked at the historic H.W. Gossard factory, Alice offers a glimpse into a UP that looked very different from the one we know today. The conversation eventually turns to marriage, motherhood, loss, aging, and the family Alice and her husband Bobby built over nearly 65 years together. There are funny memories, difficult ones, and plenty of moments that reveal just how much history can live inside one person's ordinary life. Most of all, it is a conversation about gratitude, resilience, and the stories worth preserving while we still have the opportunity to ask. Wonderfully Curious: Dr. Jeffrey Bone on Chronic Illness, Pain, and Helping Others Through It

What happens when the psychologist becomes the patient? In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier talks with psychologist, chronic illness and pain coach, author, and advocate Dr. Jeffrey Bone about his own decade-long journey with chronic illness and what that experience has taught him about pain, identity, grief, resilience, and hope. Jeff shares how a mysterious collection of neurological and physical symptoms eventually led him through functional medicine, environmental testing, immunology, and a diagnosis of common variable immune deficiency. Along the way, he experienced something many people with complicated or chronic health conditions know all too well: the exhaustion of appointments, uncertainty, conflicting opinions, and simply wanting someone to believe that something is wrong. But Jeff's story is not just about illness. It is about what happens when the life you had planned is no longer available. He and Stephanie talk about grieving your former self, accepting a new normal without surrendering your quality of life, becoming your own healthcare advocate, and finding doctors who remain genuinely curious when the answers are not obvious. That same curiosity ultimately became one of Jeff's most important tools. After years of defining himself largely through work, chronic illness pushed him toward poetry, books, podcasting, creativity, philosophy, new experiences, and a different definition of success. Today, he helps other people living with chronic illness and persistent pain navigate the emotional realities that often receive far less attention than the symptoms themselves. Jeff's challenge is beautifully simple: Ask yourself, "What could be wonderful today?" You do not have to completely reinvent your life. Sometimes curiosity begins with trying something new, asking another question, creating something imperfectly, or simply noticing what has been around you all along. Important Note This episode includes personal experiences and discussion of mold exposure, chronic inflammatory response syndrome, common variable immune deficiency, functional medicine, cortisol testing, supplements, sleep, chronic pain, and other health-related approaches. The experiences and opinions shared belong to the speakers and are provided for education and conversation. This episode is not a substitute for individualized medical or mental health care. You're Allowed to Reinvent Your Life: Rebecca Tervo on Grief, Marriage, Purpose, and Starting Again

In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier sits down with Rebecca Tervo, CPA, author, speaker, entrepreneur, and mother whose life changed forever after the suicide of her 17-year-old son, Trevor. Rebecca shares what those first days and years of grief were really like, including the challenge of trying to support her husband and three other children while barely understanding her own emotions. She talks honestly about seeking grief support, entering the coaching world, becoming certified herself, and eventually writing Shattered: From Grief to Joy After My Son's Suicide. But this conversation goes far beyond grief. Stephanie and Rebecca talk about identity, marriage, faith, leaving the religion she was raised in, human design, vision boards, self-discovery, therapy, business ownership, retirement, and the freedom that comes from realizing you are allowed to change your mind and choose a different path. Rebecca also shares one of the most powerful shifts in her marriage: deciding that neither she nor her husband was trapped. They were choosing to stay together. That sense of freedom helped them rebuild their relationship while allowing each other space to grow independently. Now, after years of coaching and personal reinvention, Rebecca is returning to her roots as a CPA and building a business focused on entrepreneurs and small business owners, especially women who want financial guidance without judgment, intimidation, or unnecessary complexity. At the heart of Rebecca's story is a simple reminder: life can be unimaginably hard, but it can also become meaningful again. You are allowed to ask for help. You are allowed to change direction. And you are allowed to build a new chapter at any age. Important Note This episode includes discussion of suicide, child loss, grief, depression, and mental health. Rob shares the framework behind his upcoming book, Light Code, built around four pillars: light, frequencies, fuel, and faith. He explains how red and near-infrared light became part of his own recovery, why he became fascinated by frequency-based wellness, how his faith shaped the way he approached illness, and why he now believes health has to be looked at through more than one lens. Stephanie and Rob also talk about chronic fatigue, inflammation, molecular hydrogen, biblical ingredients used in Rob's supplements, personalized wellness, AI-assisted health research, the history of conventional and alternative medicine, and the importance of staying curious while taking responsibility for your own health. When Caring Becomes Exhausting: Michelle on Caregiver Fatigue, Aging Parents, and Knowing Your Limits

When Caring Becomes Exhausting: Michelle on Caregiver Fatigue, Aging Parents, and Knowing Your Limits In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier talks with Michelle about something millions of families quietly struggle with: caregiver fatigue. Michelle moved home to help care for her nearly 90-year-old mother after a series of falls and a stroke changed what independent living looked like. What began as a decision rooted in love and safety gradually became a much larger responsibility, affecting Michelle's work, relationships, sleep, stress levels, freedom, and even the way she experiences her relationship with her mother. Stephanie and Michelle talk openly about the role reversal that happens when an adult child becomes a caregiver, the guilt that can come with setting boundaries, the constant worry about falls and safety, and the emotional difficulty of considering assisted living or higher levels of care when a parent desperately wants to remain at home. They also discuss something caregivers do not always give themselves permission to admit: loving someone deeply does not make caregiving easy. Sometimes the greatest challenge is acknowledging that the responsibility has become too heavy to carry alone. A Free Iran: Zolal Habibi on Women's Rights, Resistance, and the Fight for Democracy In this episode of Conversations with a Chiropractor, Dr. Stephanie Wautier talks with Zolal Habibi, an Iranian human rights activist and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran. From there, she helps listeners understand the history behind Iran's current crisis, the role of women in resisting compulsory control, the ongoing use of executions and fear, and why so many Iranians continue to push for a secular democratic republic. Stephanie and Zolal also discuss the difference between foreign intervention and supporting the Iranian people's right to resist, the impact of internet blackouts, censorship, economic pressure, hostage diplomacy, and the continued organizing of the Iranian diaspora around the world.
