What Is Entrusted to Us? - The Rev. Joyce Keeshin

Rev. Joyce reflects on Jesus’ parable of the tenants and its relevance to the world we live in today. She challenges us to consider how we respond to what has been entrusted to us, from our relationships and material possessions to our responsibilities as a church community. Through reflections on the church’s call to love and serve others, a treasured family necklace, and the example of St. Francis, Rev. Joyce explores what it means to loosen our grip, share what we have been given, and live in the enduring love of Christ.

The People God Is Calling Us to Be - The Rev. Casey Jones

Rev. Casey Jones reflects on Jesus’ parable of the two sons and asks what it means to truly do the will of God. Moving beyond a simple lesson about integrity, Rev. Casey explores obedience, humility, repentance, and the ways institutions can fail to recognize the people and gifts God is already working through. The sermon invites us to consider how we might show up fully and faithfully as the people God is calling us to be—and as the people this world needs.

"The Kingdom of Heaven, Here and Now" - The Rev. Philip DeVaul

Rev. Phil reflects on Jesus’ parable of the workers in the vineyard, challenging the idea that the story is primarily about what happens after we die. Instead, Jesus points us toward the kingdom of heaven as something already present here and now. Through the story’s surprising generosity and equal wages, Rev. Phil explores our tendency to focus on who deserves what and invites us to recognize the belonging and value of every person as we seek to bring God’s kingdom more fully to earth.

The Weight of Unforgiveness and the Power to Let Go - The Rev. Joyce Keeshin

In this sermon, Rev. Joyce reflects on Jesus’ call to forgive “seventy-seven times” and the weight that resentment and unforgiveness can carry in our lives. Through stories of family, grief, unexpected conflict, and even a difficult rescue dog, she explores what it means to move beyond judgment and division. Rev. Joyce invites us to see forgiveness not as forgetting or minimizing pain, but as a way of releasing that weight and making room for love, reconciliation, and deeper connection.

We Were Made for Each Other: The Rev. Philip DeVaul

In this sermon, Rev. Phil reflects on Jesus’ teaching about the importance of relationship, community, and reconciliation. We are made for each other, and our relationship with God cannot be separated from how we love and care for our neighbors. When we harm one another or experience conflict, Jesus calls us toward healing and reconciliation. And even when reconciliation is not possible, we are still called to love, pray for, and care for one another.

The Rock of Faith: Listening and Following Jesus - The Rev. Philip DeVaul

In this sermon, Rev. Phil explores Jesus’ naming of Simon as “Peter,” or “Rocky,” and what his name reveals about faith. Simon, whose name points to listening, becomes an example of what it means to listen for God and then follow Jesus into the world. Rather than simply telling others who Jesus is, we are called to live as if we believe Jesus is the Messiah, living lives rooted in love, justice, mercy, dignity, and care. Jesus doesn’t need us to simply talk about faith; he needs us to live it.

Where Will the Line Be Drawn?

In his first sermon at Church of the Redeemer, Rev. Casey Jones reflects on Matthew 15:21–28 and Jesus’ encounter with a Canaanite woman seeking healing for her child. He explores the deep ethnic and social divisions present in the story, including the significance of Matthew identifying the woman as Canaanite and Jesus’ comparison of her to a dog. Rev. Casey considers how both Jesus and the woman navigate boundaries created by empire, identity, gender, and power. The woman’s persistence ultimately raises a question for the church: Where will the line be drawn? Rev. Jones calls for a faith that pushes beyond boundaries and embraces the boundless, boundary-less love of God, affirming Christ as the “house of prayer for all people.”

Walking on Water: Faith in Uncertainty - The Rev. Philip DeVaul

In this sermon, Rev. Phil takes a closer look at Peter’s decision to step out of the boat and walk on water. While Peter’s act is an audacious expression of faith, Rev. Phil pushes back on Jesus’ response when Peter begins to sink. Fear is a natural response when the wind starts to blow and the water beneath us feels uncertain. But perhaps Jesus is pointing Peter toward a deeper understanding of faith: faith isn’t just the courage to step out of the boat, but the courage to keep going when things get scary.
