The Silent Footprints | Stillbirth, Miscarriage, SIDS, Stigma, Baby Loss, Grief, SHINE for Autumn Act, Advocate, Legislation,

Lisa Rowell

Have you lost a baby to miscarriage, stillbirth, or SIDS? Do you feel like no one understands the depth of your grief? Maybe you’re angry, bitter, depressed—or drowning in a sea of emotions that feel impossible to name, let alone explain. Perhaps you’ve heard well-meaning but hurtful comments or received advice that made you feel even more isolated. You might be wondering, Where is God in all of this? Or why our country hasn’t done more to prevent stillbirths and support grieving families. You are not alone. And this podcast is for you. I’m Lisa Rowell. In 2013, I gave birth to my stillborn daughter, Julianna Grace. That moment shattered my world. I didn’t know how to survive the pain. I wrestled with God, with grief, with questions no one seemed to want to answer. Ten years ago, I found myself on the edge of despair, holding a bottle of liquor and a handful of pills, ready to give up—until God stepped in and changed everything. From the ashes of that heartbreak, a calling was born. Through The Silent Footprints, I invite you into a space that is real, raw, and unapologetically honest about infant loss. Here, we break the silence and stigma around miscarriage, stillbirth, SIDS, and early infant death. We talk about what it's like to grieve in a world that doesn’t know what to say—and how to heal when your heart feels shattered. My Christian faith has been the foundation of my journey, and it’s through God’s strength that I found purpose in my pain. I started the Julianna Grace Ministry by creating grieving baskets for parents like me. That effort grew into funding cuddle cots and caring cradles for local hospitals—tools that allow families precious time with their babies. Later, God opened the door for me to help pass legislation in Louisiana, offering tax credits to families of stillborn babies and giving dignity through certificates of miscarriage. This podcast isn’t just about healing—it's about action. I believe we can change the way our nation handles stillbirth and miscarriage. I believe grieving families deserve recognition, support, and resources. You’ll hear about efforts to pass laws across the country, tools like fetal monitoring apps, and ways you can advocate in your own state or even at the national level. Through heartfelt stories, faith-filled encouragement, and practical advocacy tips, The Silent Footprints empowers grieving parents to honor their babies and reclaim their voices. Whether you're freshly grieving or years down the road, this podcast will walk with you through the valleys and help you find purpose on the other side of pain. You may feel broken right now, but God is not finished with your story. You are not alone. Your baby’s life mattered. And your life still holds meaning. As Psalm 27:13 says, “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.” I never thought I’d feel joy again—but God made a way. Now I want to share that hope with you. So, if you're tired of suffering in silence, if you're ready to heal, speak out, and even create change—subscribe and join me. Let’s walk this road together, one step, one story, one prayer at a time. “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord.” – Psalm 27:14

116 | How Can I Contend With Horses?

Send us Fan Mail As we approach the end of the year, I find myself reflecting on the things that haven't gone as I had hoped. In advocacy, it can be discouraging when bills don't pass, doors don't open, and the things we pray and work so hard for don't come to fruition. Sometimes I find myself asking the same questions Jeremiah asked: Why does it seem that the wicked prosper while those trying to do what is right grow weary? But Jeremiah 12:1-5 brought me to a place of conviction and reflection. God reminded me that His plans are not always my plans, and His ways are far beyond anything I could imagine. He challenged Jeremiah with the question, "If you have run with footmen and they have tired you out, then how can you compete with horses?" It made me consider whether I am so focused on what I want God to accomplish through me that I am overlooking what He is trying to accomplish in me. Perhaps the difficulties we face are also opportunities to develop endurance, deepen our trust, and prepare us for what lies ahead. Join me as I share what God has been teaching me about discouragement, perseverance, and remaining faithful when His plans look nothing like mine. "If you have run with the footmen, and they have wearied you, Then how can you contend with horses? And [if] in the land of peace, [In which] you trusted, [they wearied you], Then how will you do in the floodplain of the Jordan? Send us Fan Mail What happens when you travel to Washington, D.C., ready to advocate for the SHINE for Autumn Act, only to discover that the meetings you planned aren’t happening? In this episode of The Silent Footprints Podcast, I’m taking you behind the scenes of my recent trip to Washington, D.C. to advocate for stillbirth prevention and the SHINE for Autumn Act. For the first time, I found myself unable to secure the congressional appointments I had hoped for—and I honestly didn’t know what was going to happen. But God did. As doors seemed to close, unexpected doors began to open. Hear how we were able to secure meetings, the unexpected encounters with legislators, and the moments that could only be described as God-ordained. What looked like a setback became an opportunity to see God move in ways we never could have planned ourselves that included an unexpected visit by Lori McGrew.  I’ll also share how God is raising up another Louisiana constituent, Kristi, who is stepping forward to advocate for change in stillbirth care and bring her own experience and passion to this important work. This wasn’t just a trip to Washington, D.C. It was a reminder that when we trust God with the journey, He can accomplish far more than we could ever arrange on our own. 🎙️ Listen in to hear the story of what God did in Washington—and the miracles we never saw coming. 🕊️ LETS STAY CONNECTED: Link Tree Instagram Facebook Twitter Website Give if you feel led. 111 | From Surviving to Living Again: Kelly Bourque Breaux’s Journey Through Child Loss

Send us Fan Mail Sometimes grief doesn’t just break your heart—it changes the way you live. Today on The Silent Footprints Podcast, I’m honored to sit down with Kelly Bourque Breaux, President of Red Bird Ministries, author, writer, and a woman whose own journey through child loss led her to help thousands of other grieving families. Kelly and her husband, Ryan, have walked through the unimaginable loss of four children. Their son Talon died at just 15 days old. Their daughter Emma Grace died at 3 years and 10 months. They also experienced the loss of Christian Ryan at 11.5 weeks gestation and Eva Catherine at 6.5 weeks gestation. Kelly openly shares what happened after losing her children. She found herself in a deep spiral of depression—not really living, but simply surviving. And yet, in the middle of that darkness, God began to lead her toward something she never expected: helping other families who were walking the same painful road. Out of her own loss, Red Bird Ministries was born. Today, Kelly has personally walked alongside more than 500 grieving families and has helped bring grief support and trauma-informed care to communities across the country. Her heart is to help the Church understand how to truly walk with families after the death of a child—because grief should never have to be carried alone. In this conversation, Kelly and I talk about child loss, depression, faith, survival, healing, and what it means to find life again after unimaginable loss. We talk about the moments when you don’t know how you will keep going, and how God can meet us even in the darkest places. Kelly is also the author of Hiding in the Upper Room: How the Catholic Sacraments Healed Me from the Grief of Child Loss, a deeply personal reflection of her journey through sorrow, faith, and healing. If you have experienced the loss of a baby or child, or if you love someone who has, I hope this conversation reminds you of something important: You may feel lost in the darkness, but you are not forgotten. And you do not have to walk through grief alone. LETS STAY CONNECTED: Link Tree Instagram Facebook Twitter Website Give if you feel led. All donations will go to the Julianna Grace Ministry. 109 | Advocate for the Voiceless

Send us Fan Mail Yesterday’s sermon deeply encouraged me—not only in my personal walk with God, but also in the calling He has placed on my heart for more than 10 years. Today, I want to take a moment to remind you why we advocate for a cause that is so often overlooked: stillbirth and the families who are left grieving. There are babies who never get the chance to speak for themselves and families whose grief can so easily be forgotten or misunderstood. But we are not called to remain silent. In this episode, I talk about the greatest Advocate we have: Jesus Christ. He showed us what it looks like to speak up for those who are hurting, to care for the vulnerable, and to make sure the overlooked are not forgotten. His example challenges us to use our voices—not for ourselves, but for those who cannot speak for themselves. And next week, I’ll be traveling to Washington, D.C. to continue advocating for stillbirth awareness, prevention, research, and support for grieving families. As I prepare for this trip, I’m asking you to pray. Pray for the meetings, the conversations, the legislators, and everyone working to make a difference. Most of all, pray that God would give me wisdom, courage, and the right words as I advocate for those who have no voice and for the families who are grieving.
