Tessel Middag on the Importance of Activism and LGBTQ+ Inclusion

This month’s episode is brought to you in partnership with our friends at Football v Homophobia as part of their ongoing month of action campaign. The organisation works all year round across the UK to challenge discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and expression at all levels of football. February is their month of action whereby a whole host of events take place across the UK, and to help raise awareness we are bringing you two special episodes this month to celebrate the importance of inclusivity and to highlight the vital work the organisation do too. We are delighted to kick off the first of these two episodes with Rangers and Netherlands midfielder, Tessel Middag. Tessel is a footballer, activist, historian, and also the vice chair of the PFA. She won the Val McDermid Award for the Spirit of SWF at the most recent Scottish Women’s Football Awards for her research into the history of Scottish women’s football, and she was also one of the organisers that brought forward a petition signed by over 100 professional women’s players from around the world calling on FIFA to drop their partnership with Saudi Arabian oil company ARAMCO.  On top of all of this we bring you all the usual updates from the SWPL, Scottish Cup, Sky Sports Cup, the notorious January transfer window, and finally the upcoming SWNT fixtures too! Phew! Hosted and produced by Megan and Amanda. To find out more about the work of Football v Homophobia head to their website. Keep up to date with all things Sideline by following us Instagram!
