A Whole New World... Through Language ft. Riya (S2 E9)

Languages to me have never just been a means of communication. They are a world unto themselves, offering a peek into culture, traditions, history, and sometimes even their own evolution, if you care enough to dig deep. Learning a new language can reveal a lot, and for Riya Sharma, who speaks multiple Indian and foreign languages, languages have become a way of understanding people, culture, and even herself. In this episode, we get into the joy, frustration and unexpected rewards of learning them. If you've ever wanted to learn a new language but thought you were too old, too busy, or simply "not good at languages", this might change your mind. Sometimes, all it takes is learning enough to order food, have a conversation, understand a joke, read a sign, or make someone smile because you tried to speak their language. Because every new language gives you another way to connect, travel, understand people and experience a place. I'd like to hear from you, so comment: If you could become conversational in one new language tomorrow, which one would you choose? 🎧 Listen on your preferred platform: https://linktr.ee/sum.of.everything 📺 Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/61D-epfiIFI 📱 Follow Sum Of Everything on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_sum.of.everything_?igsh=MWw0ZGFsczk3c3Y5NQ== ✍️ Read more on the Sum Of Everything blog: https://sumofeverythingblog.blogspot.com/ Connect with Riya: Superprof: https://www.superprof.co.in/unlock-the-world-korean-with-certified-tutor-from-yonsei-university-now-officially-topik-level-certified-helping.html Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/riya-s-204020204?utm_source=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=member_ios 🎙 Subscribe to Sum Of Everything for conversations about people, ideas, experiences and the things that make us think a little differently. The Places that Change You Ft. Shreyas Danappa (S2 E8)

What are we really looking for when we travel? For some of us, it starts with wanting to see more of the world. But sometimes, somewhere along the way, travel becomes less about the places we visit and more about the way those places make us feel, the people we meet, and the lives we get to glimpse for a little while. In this episode, Shreyas Danappa, founder of Map My Stories, shares his experiences with slow and immersive travel, finding a sense of belonging in an unexpected corner of Arunachal Pradesh, and what happens when you spend enough time somewhere to see beyond the postcard version of it. Join us as we talk about community, contentment, the privilege of travel, and the things we can learn from ways of living that are very different from our own. And perhaps, somewhere in all of this, there is a bigger question: what if travelling somewhere else teaches us something about how we want to live our everyday? I'd like to hear from you, so comment and tell me what travel has taught you. You've Created Something... Now What? | IP For Creatives Part 2 (S2 E7)

You've created something. Maybe it's a song. Maybe it's an app. Maybe you've written a book, designed a garment, created a logo or built a product. Now what? Because once an idea becomes a creation, there are a few more questions you need to ask. What exactly have you created? Which form of intellectual property protects it? Do you need to register anything? And what happens when more than one kind of IP applies to the same creation? That's where things get interesting. If Part 1 made you think about whether your idea can be protected, Part 2 is about figuring out what happens once you've made it. It might change the way you think about your next idea.

Can You Protect an Idea? | IP for Creatives - Part 1 (S2 E6)

You have an idea that won't leave you alone. It keeps finding its way back into your thoughts until you finally decide to do something about it. Maybe it's a business. A screenplay. A song. A novel. A podcast. An app. A design. Maybe you've already spent weeks, months, or years bringing it to life. You want to tell people about it. You also don't. Because what if someone takes it? That question has crossed the mind of almost every creator. Sometimes it keeps us from sharing our work. Sometimes it keeps us from starting at all. I've had this conversation with clients, founders, artists and creators throughout my career as an intellectual property lawyer. It almost always begins with the same sentence. "I have an idea. I want to patent it." This episode starts there. We'll explore what intellectual property is, why it exists, and how copyright, trademarks, patents, designs and trade secrets protect different kinds of creativity. We'll also look at one idea that sits at the heart of copyright law and changes the way you think about creative ownership. If you've ever wondered whether your idea can be protected, this is a good place to begin. Maybe the Problem isn't the Problem... ft. Group Captain Rameish Kumar Dhulipat (S2 E5)

How much of your life is actually determined by what happens to you... and how much is determined by how you respond? We often blame circumstances, difficult people, bad luck, or unexpected change for the way our lives unfold. But what if the one thing that truly shapes our experience isn't the event itself, but our response to it? In this episode of Sum of Everything, I sit down with Group Captain Rameish Dhulipad, an Indian Air Force veteran, educator, and author of Master Your Response, Master Your Life. Drawing from decades of leadership, training, and life experience, he shares a refreshingly practical framework for navigating uncertainty, making better decisions, communicating more effectively, and leading yourself through change. Instead of a conversation filled with motivational clichés, we explore simple shifts in perspective that can fundamentally change the way you approach challenges, relationships, expectations, and even your own thoughts. If you've ever found yourself asking “Why is this happening to me?”, this episode might encourage you to ask a far more useful question instead. 📖 Buy Master Your Response, Master Your Life: https://www.amazon.in/dp/8199015616 📧 You can also order a copy directly by emailing: responseadvantage@gmail.com 🎧 Listen on your preferred platform: https://linktr.ee/sum.of.everything 📺 Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/ztr0XdJ-To4 📱 Follow The Sum of Everything on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_sum.of.everything_?igsh=MWw0ZGFsczk3c3Y5NQ== ✍️ While you're here, you might also enjoy the blog: https://sumofeverythingblog.blogspot.com/ 💬 I'd love to hear from you: Share your thoughts in the comments - I read every one. 🎙 If this conversation gave you a new perspective, consider sharing it with someone who might need it too. The Last Time I Was Bored Was... (S2 E4)

We're living in a world where every spare moment is filled. Whether it is scrolling while waiting in line, listening to music or podcasts while driving or YouTube in the background while cooking. We've become so accustomed to constant stimulation that boredom feels like a distant nostalgic dream. But what if that's costing us our creativity? In this episode of Sum of Everything, I explore why boredom isn't the enemy we think it is. From childhood memories of staring at patterned floor tiles and getting lost in thought to the neuroscience behind the brain's Default Mode Network, we look at why our best ideas often appear when we're doing... absolutely nothing. If you've been waiting for a spark of inspiration, maybe the answer isn't another productivity hack or another self-help video. Maybe it's giving yourself permission to get bored. Life as a Composer-Arranger ft. Wessa (S2 E3)

What does it actually take to build a life around music? In the first episode of the Living a Creative Life series, I sit down with my dear friend Wessa, a singer, songwriter, composer, arranger and film scoring graduate, to talk about what it really means to pursue an unconventional creative career. From being homeschooled to devote more time to music, studying at conservatoires in London and Australia, writing for a 30-piece orchestra, overcoming creative blocks, and navigating the uncertainty of a creative profession, this conversation is an honest look at the discipline, vulnerability and joy behind a life in music. Whether you're an artist, a creative professional, or someone wondering if it's too late to pursue the thing you love, this episode is for you. As Wessa so eloquently puts it, “If being a musician is something that you really, really want, then one day, regardless of what choices you make, you will find yourself back on the doorstep of: Do I want to be a musician? If you don't answer it when you're five, it'll come back when you're forty-five.” 🎧 Listen on your preferred platform: https://linktr.ee/sum.of.everything 📺 Watch on YouTube: https://youtu.be/2VCMR5qXDOw 📱 Follow The Sum of Everything on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_sum.of.everything_?igsh=MWw0ZGFsczk3c3Y5NQ== ✍️ While you're here, you might want to check out the blog as well: https://sumofeverythingblog.blogspot.com/ 🎧 Listen to June by Wessa: YouTube: https://youtu.be/wvzWH-q1kHU?si=yPCUbvK31HmNzOU- Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/track/37qhMTE8fvyl7U8hvGHGUB?si=c8ce9a61fc794030 🎻 Hildur Guðnadóttir Official Website: https://www.hildurness.com/ Films Scores – https://www.hildurness.com/films Discography – https://www.hildurness.com/music 🎙 If you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to like, subscribe, rate, and share it with someone who needs to hear this and follow the Sum of Everything and leave a rating wherever you're listening. Who Told You You Don't Belong? (S2 E2)

Have you ever achieved something you've worked incredibly hard for… only to feel like you didn't deserve it? In this episode, I share one of the most surreal experiences of my career - being recognized as one of Photon Legal's Top 40 Innovative Legal Leaders - and why that achievement unexpectedly became the first time I truly experienced Imposter Syndrome. But this episode isn't just about self-doubt. It's about where imposter syndrome actually comes from, how it's different from everyday insecurities, the stories we unknowingly inherit about success, recognition, and worthiness and why many of us spend our lives believing we don't belong in rooms we've rightfully earned a place in. If you've ever felt like your success was "just luck", or that someone was eventually going to find out you weren't good enough, this episode is for you. If this episode resonated with you, I'd love to hear your story. Have you ever experienced imposter syndrome? Or have you ever realised that you were the one standing in your own way?
