I love that this podcast gives me a quick daily update of all things women’s sports. So helpful to stay current on top news and storylines across all women’s leagues. Good Game, Sarah!

I’m sad it took me so long to find this podcast! This is exactly the women’s sports podcast I was looking for. Sarah Spain covers all women’s sports leagues and events with deep knowledge and context. I’ve been so impressed with the ways she doesn’t shy away from directly addressing racism, sexism, and homophobia while also going deep into the skills, fundamentals, and business of all the sports being covered. Such a great source of comprehensive and nuanced information about the wide world of women’s sports, I’m obsessed.

After being an occasional listener of this show for a while, I’m incredibly shocked at the more recent episode regarding the WNBA draft and, in particular, the discussion around two basketball stars. I was hoping for more journalistic commentary or a basketball discussion, but it gave off very gossipy. I don’t understand the inclusion of that. This may be wrong, but as a woman in sports commentary, I’d expect better from her than to regurgitate rumors like this. It takes away from the love of sports. And it was really jarring, considering that I can’t remember Spain ever having talking points like that before. Going forward, I hope Spain remembers that these are real people she’s talking about, and to focus on conversation around sports only, which is why I had originally tuned in… 😅

It’s disappointing that you use your platform in such a harmful way. It’s upsetting that instead of congratulating an amazing draftee on the biggest night of her life, you decide to start spewing fanfiction about her and her private relationship with her partner. These women are professionals and above all else, I know they are focused on basketball and basketball alone what they do privately is their business and you should be ashamed of yourself for saying what you did about those women. They are human beings who don’t deserve to be spoken about in that way. And they deserve just as much privacy as the next person and they shouldn’t be worried that people close to them, who work in this field, speaking about them in such a negative light. I truly hope that anybody you’ve ever spoken about in that way gets an apology. If you wanna run a rumor mill fine, if spreading false information and nasty rumors is your only way to get clicks and listens fine be the next TMZ, Maybe you need to take at hard look at your life and your professional choices because that is a terrible way to promote these women athletes and you should never be able to call yourself an advocate for them. Yourselves and your entire team should truly be ashamed.
