    Wisdom in a Broken World

    Living by faith teaches you to trust in God and not in your situation. Ecclesiastes 8:9-17 shows us 4 keys to living for God when life doesn't make sense. First, we must recognize that we live in a broken world. Our world has went from a perfect creation to a brokenness that we experience today. God has placed human authority over us and sometimes that authority does good and sometimes it does bad to hurt others. Second we are to live life in relation to God. Life doesn't always make sense, and that is easier said than done. Wicked can be honored for living a horrible life, and a justice system that was given to us by God sometimes fails. God is to be the reference point, not our experiences. Third, we are to enjoy the good gifts that God has given you. This world is not your home, live for the Lord during the time that you have here. Even in the brokenness, God has given you better than you deserve. Finally, trust in God especially when you don't know what He is doing. Seek after God, even when you do not understand what He is doing. Never presume that you know everything that God is doing.

    How to Live Your Life

    This week we studied through Ecclesiastes 7:15-22. Solomon teaches two foundational truths from wisdom that teach us how to live. The first is that wisdom leads you to trust God. Life doesn't always make sense, and Solomon speaks to this. You can do the right things and yet life will be cut off short while others who live wickedly see a long life of prosperity. Eliphaz in Job 4 showed a hope in the fear of God and what He did. His hope was not in God alone. Sometimes you can do all of the right things like Job, and still have bad things happen. Hope in the length of days is a misplaced hope, hope in the plan and not in God who put the plan together. Maybe you do not understand, but your responsibility is not to understand. Second, Wisdom leads you to live by Grace. Wisdom according to Solomon is the practical application of the knowledge of God. Protection from the judgement of God does not come from self-righteousness, it comes through the wisdom of God. Scripture shows us our wickedness by the power of the Spirit.

    Unity in the Local Church

    This week Pastor Cam takes us through 1 Peter 4:7-11 and discusses the three ways that Peter emphasizes unity in the local church. First, Peter tells us that Prayer is the way that the church is going to be unified. Prayer is a tool in the individuals life to bring them to corporate unity. The Holy Spirit works through each individual and moves the church together. Second, Peter teaches us that unity comes through our actions towards one another. The church is called to loving one another, even though that can be difficult. People can be difficult to love, but that does not mean that we are to love them less. Finally, Peter teaches that unity comes together through serving on mission together. The church will be unified in their mission, and this is dependent upon their love for one another and most importantly through their prayer life. .

    The Fear of God and Wisdom

    Ecclesiastes 7:1-14 takes us through 5 ways that wisdom leads you to fear of God. First, wisdom leads you to examine you live. Death gets your attention like nothing else. The passing of a person can cause us to ask about our name and what kind of a person we are. This ought to be about Christlikeness for the Christian. Repentance changed the way the church of Corinth functioned. Godly sorrow led them to repentance and that is good because it protects us from judgement. Second, wisdom keeps us from wasting our life. A wise man makes sure his days count. A life lived in obedience to God, is a life that follows what God says, trust in who God is and rests in God's work. Third, wisdom is hard to live out in trouble. Satan was convinced that Job had a price, and that he was faithful to God because God protected and provided for Him. Temptations will come and test your integrity and your faithfulness. Be faithful, because you are a work in progress. However, during that work do not let pride creep in because even the wise can be foolish if pushed hard enough. So don't l I've in the past but be encouraged to be faithful today. Fourth, wisdom can lengthen your life. A life well lived views the world in a way that reflects biblical wisdom. Wisdom will help to protect you from the pitfalls of life. Finally wisdom reminds you that God is in charge. There is no point in opposing what God has planned. God is in control no matter what comes your way. Real wisdom leads you to God, and it is not enough to know what is wise. It must be lived out each day because it directs how we live in every area of our life.

    The Key to Life's Mysteries pt. 2

    This week, Pastor Matt takes us through Ecclesiastes 6:7-12. This passage teaches us that Knowing God is the Key to Understanding the Significance of Daily Living. Solomon's repetition is being done with the purpose of drilling down to the core of how a person understands the day-to-day life in light of the character of God. Anybody who understands life, "under the sun" misses the significance of life. Solomon shows us that life is not a random assortment of chances, but rather God has a purpose for the day to day of our life and that God is actively carrying-out His plan for us through our lives. Our life, the daily grind has eternal significance even if we do not understand it. God is sovereign, but human choices are real, meaningful, consequential, and woven into God's purpose. The struggle comes when we try to bring together the sovereignty of God and the free will of man. We can understand them separately but not together. Trusting in that sovereign God means that I can live with confidence that everyday matters, and that God has a plan that He is actively bringing to pass. Trusting in a sovereign God means that His way is best and I am to obey Him, by faith.

    Key to Life's Mysteries

    Ecclesiastes 6:1-6 shows us that Knowing God is the key to having satisfaction in life. The world looks for satisfaction in so many different areas, and yet satisfaction is found in God. Living life from the earthly perspective alone leads us to only see what the world has to offer. Our hearts are looking for satisfaction, value and significance in my circumstances. We must understand our circumstances in light of God's character and not God's character in light of circumstances. We view the world despite our circumstances because our circumstances change while God does not change.

    Lessons from Money and the Fear of God

    It's clearly seen in life and the people who surround us, what you treasure drives your life. Solomon was a rich man who shoed us that money was not enough to satisfy your life. In Ecclesiastes 5:10-20 Solomon teaches us three lessons from money when you fear God. First, Solomon teaches us that money teaches you about your heart. The desire for something more is not the problem, it is trying to fulfill that desire in all of the wrong ways that is the problem. We were made for something more in this world, and yet our tendency is to look in all of the wrong places for that significance. Second, money teaches us about our faith. Money is a tool to accomplish what God has for us. Money is not the source of our security nor is it to be handled in a way that does not honor God. The way you handle your finances ought to honor the Lord. Money reveals our priority, are we going to live of God, with eternal values and goals or are we going to live for what this world has to offer. Finally, Solomon teaches us that money teaches you about your own life. What you have has been given to you by God. Every breath, minute, dollar, all has been give to you by God and you are to enjoy it. Money reveals your rest, and what you are living for today. Money can reveal who we really are.
