    Pop Culture: Emmy Nominations, Celebrity Weddings, and Love Island Recap (Last One, Promise!)

    Welcome to our full pop culture buffet. First course, per usual, is LOVE ISLAND USA. Full review, pre-finale thoughts, our favorite and least favorite contestants. And FYI: we agree to disagree on our thoughts, which is something special 🫶 We pivot to the Emmys, where we (Jon) lovingly rage(s) about the same five shows getting nominated in the same twenty categories every single year (looking at you, Hacks and The Bear). And don't even get us started on The Bear being a "comedy." BUT, we'll of course still watch the Awards and continue bringing our every last opinion to the table.     Mean Girl Music and Appointment TV

    First things first: Jon’s new personality (his mustache) is here to stay (thank god).  After we settle that debate - and introduce our new Irish lingo into the chat - we discuss the art that is Mean Girl Music. Our toss in the ring for a new Grammy category. Picture this: the anthem/soundtrack of any mean girl clique in any movie ever…we hear you Charli XCX, Addison Rae.  We then dive head first into full nostalgia mode for appointment television - High School Musical premieres, American Idol group texts, waiting a literal week for new Bachelor Monday episodes. Which, obviously, dumps us straight into a Love Island deep dive: the bombshells, the contestant anxiety, the parasocial rot, and why neither of us has missed a single night.     Pop Culture: Love Island US vs UK, Will Ferrell Love Affair, PR Relationships

    TONIGHT ON...the pod. It's time we speak on our Love Island thoughts (US AND UK) and things get...heated. We then quickly (after 10 whole minutes) pivot to our Las Culturistas Culture Awards recap, Kellie's backstage affair with Will Ferrell (have some freaking class, Kellie), and discuss which current Hollywood relationships are PR or not PR. (Like: Benson Boone and Alix Earle, we have a question or TWO...) We also have our third surprise phone-in guest of the season and this one will make your heart f-ing melt, we swear.     World Cup Americana, Friendship Illiteracy, and Tiny Intimacies

    First things first, we want to give the warmest welcome to our cohost of this episode: Pink Mini Hat. Our sassy, MOUTHY bestie! Ok, so the US might've lost the World Cup, but our fleeting patriotism lives on in watching visitors from other countries experience Americana for the first time: we're talking Buc-ee's, Big Gulps, portions that require a to-go box on arrival." It's ridiculous. It's charming. It's "I wish I could see it all for the first time again through your eyes". Then we get utterly speechless about friendship being criminally understudied. We can all talk about romantic relationships for HOURS, there are whole industries, songs, movies, books for it, but friendships? All those levels and tiers and unspoken rules…we want justice for friendships! Plus: a brief and important discussion of tiny intimacies (the stranger elevator ride, the accidental ear whisper - you know the ones).     This Pop Culture episode is a rapid-fire grab bag of reviews, hot takes, and a little chaos PLUS with a special guest appearance from Jon’s mom. We start with quick movie check-ins (from your local AMC A-Listers including Sheep Detective, Obsession, and Backrooms), then straight into Gen Z director discourse and Kellie's stunning recap of her attendance at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards (plus an award snub that still stings).     Fun Police, Unfinished Shows and Wedding/Martha's Vineyard Recaps!

    Say it with us: optimization culture is ruining fun! In a very juicy episode 7, we bounce from chaotic personal updates to bigger “how do we actually enjoy life?” questions. We kick things off with the 75 chud challenge then spiral into how optimization culture can suck the fun out of everything - bring back wicked hangovers in 2026! Well, maybe not, but you get our point! From there, it’s recap season: Kellie’s wedding, Jon’s Martha’s Vineyard trip, and a stunning deep dive into oysters (and other alleged aphrodisiacs). Mid-episode, we tease what’s cooking for 2027 MDW and unpack how we ended up in NOLA plus an important debate: to whoop or not to whoop.     Last Times and The Fleeting Versions of You

    *inhale, exhale*  Welcome to a wonderfully frazzled Episode 6, dear Dykwimpers! In this episode, Jon gets a little Nicholas Sparks with it and brings beautiful sap, sentiment and a whole thesis to the table (classic “The Man Who Has It All”). We chat about the phenomenon of the last time being the last time, and the temporary versions of ourselves - whom we all need to be nicer to and give grace to, FYI.  But caution: Diet Cokes might hit harder than they appear. Bouncing off the walls may include conversations including, but not limited to: polly pocket analogies, new wardrobe hauls, clothing preference in an emergency situations, and perfectly rational anger whilst in traffic.  Charge those phones (slash my phone is dead), grab a CRISPY Diet Coke, and pack your bags because we’re going to gratitude and yeah…we’re staying for good!!
