Oystercatchers of the Word

Groomsport Parish Church

Sunday messages and more from Groomsport Parish Church, Northern Ireland! We love searching the Scriptures, the Word of God, here and want to be like oystercatchers (a much-loved sight here in Groomsport) searching the Bible’s pages with our bright red beaks of prayer, feasting on what we find there and finding the most infinitely precious treasures of wisdom, like pearls in oyster shells, within its pages 📖

4 Biblical Reasons Jesus is Truly God

Four biblical evidences (amongst many others) that Jesus is indeed Truly God - 'true God from true God': (1) Through Him all things were made ‘in Him all things in heaven and on earth were created’ (1:16) John 1:3 - ‘All things came into being through him, and without him not one thing came into being.’ Unlike us and everything else, which is created, Christ is uncreated Only God is the Creator and only He is uncreated Jesus took on humanity at the first Christmas, yet He has existed for all eternity past and will exist for all eternity future Jesus Christ is shown to be the incarnation of our Creator God (2) All the fullness of God dwells in Him “in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell” (1:19) “in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily” (2:9) Here we have effectively an outright statement that Jesus is fully divine, that He is truly God. (3) Jesus accepts worship The Bible is very clear indeed that God alone is worthy of worship Yet the Gospels record numerous accounts of Jesus accepting worship - e.g. (amongst others): Magi on coming to house (Matt. 2:11) In the boat after walking on water (Matt. 14:33) Women after meeting resurrected Jesus (Matt. 28:9) Thomas says, ‘My Lord and my God!’ (Jn. 20) In Revelation 19:10, when John tries to worship an angel, the angel adamantly stops him. Only God, not angels, are worthy of worship. If Jesus was not God, and not worthy of worship, He too would have stopped people offering Him worship - yet He did not! (4) Jesus says, “The Father and I are one.” Back to His own words Effectively saying, “I and God are one” He says this not as a boast, but as simple, gentle, steadfast, truth Clearly understood as an assertion that He is truly God by the response of many listening to this, as they accuse Him of: “blasphemy, because you, though only a human being, are making yourself God.” Jesus does not deny it! Praise be to You, Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God!
