How Two Young Entrepreneurs Are Making Sustainability Mainstream: Kaeden Patel and Vasco Connor

In this episode of the ChangeMaker Voices Podcast, hosted by Nimesh Patel, we explore the fascinating origins and evolution of the Sustainable Squad, an innovative venture founded by two visionary young entrepreneurs. We welcome Nimesh’s son Kaeden Patel, a 13 year old CEO, alongside his co-founder and chief marketing officer Vasco Connor from Singapore. The narrative begins with a detailed account of how their partnership was forged, ignited by Kaeden's profound dedication to environmental sustainability. Kaeden divulges his early concerns for the planet's well-being, which sowed the seeds for a concept that would burgeon into a substantial initiative. Vasco, equipped with a complementary skill set and a shared enthusiasm for the cause, saw the transformative potential in Kaeden's idea. Their combined efforts marked the commencement of a shared mission to effectuate positive environmental change. What challenges did Kaeden and Vasco face as they developed their business, and how did they adapt their strategies? The duo proceeds to share the multifaceted challenges they faced as they navigated the entrepreneurial landscape. They recount their initial venture adding sustainability into fashion, starting with the ambition to produce environmentally friendly t-shirts. However, they quickly recognised the necessity to recalibrate their strategy in response to consumer insights and the shifting demands of the marketplace. This critical juncture steered them toward the development of an innovative interactive virtual reality game. The game's dual purpose is to impart knowledge about sustainability while incorporating the use of cryptocurrency, positioning it as a pioneering and engaging educational resource. Throughout the episode, Kaeden and Vasco underscore the indispensable role of teamwork in the maturation of their enterprise. They reflect on the invaluable lessons gleaned from their missteps, perceiving each failure as a catalyst for progress and refinement. They advocate for a mindset that welcomes failure as an integral component of the entrepreneurial journey, essential for learning and advancement. What impact have cutting-edge technologies had on their business, and how have their personal histories influenced their journey? As the dialogue progresses, the host and guests exchange rich insights and personal anecdotes about the inception of their businesses. They delve into the profound influence of cutting-edge technologies on their entrepreneurial pursuits, discussing how advancements such as virtual reality and blockchain technology have revolutionised opportunities and informed their strategic approaches.  This episode presents an uplifting and instructive narrative about the endeavours of Kaeden Patel and Vasco Connor, two young entrepreneurs whose aspirations transcend mere commercial success. Their story serves as a compelling illustration of how passion, flexibility, and cooperative effort are instrumental in navigating the dynamic realm of entrepreneurship, particularly when the goal is to engender a beneficial impact on the global community. Can Children Build the School of the Future? Empowering Educational Change

'Now is the time to try. If we look at the current trajectory, what will be different in five years unless we try to make a difference?'In this episode, Nimesh Patel hosts a thought-provoking conversation with Professor Ashley George about the concept of empowering children to actively participate in designing ‘the school of the future’. What if children could shape their own educational experiences? Kabuni is using technology to help 100 kids design, plan, and build a school.  Nimesh  and Ashley reiterate by delving into the transformative significance of involving diverse groups of children. And, by working together in virtual reality, the project can be replicated around the world. "When children are given the opportunity to design their learning environments, they bring fresh perspectives that adults might overlook," Professor George asserts. The conversation highlights how crucial it is to adopt local and inclusive methods that address the unique needs and viewpoints of different communities. This, in turn, helps create a fairer and more personalised learning experience for everyone. Professor George goes on to explain how these creative educational models can boost lifelong learning, with the two emphasising that "when children are given the tools and opportunities to co-create their educational journeys, they are more likely to develop a sustained passion for learning." "A decentralised knowledge framework allows for a more flexible and responsive educational system." The conversation also dives into the idea of a decentralised knowledge framework, a dynamic and adaptable system that could thrive commercially and keep improving over time. This framework would be shaped by a diverse group of stakeholders, including educators, tech wizards, policymakers, and, of course, the kids themselves. What are the broader implications of children designing their own schools?Throughout the episode, Patel and George highlight how this project can make waves, not just for the kids involved, but for their families and the entire educational scene. They chat about how this approach can spark more engaged and motivated learners, build stronger community bonds, and ultimately create a more innovative and resilient education system. "This isn't just about improving individual schools; it's about transforming the entire educational ecosystem.” The episode serves as a compelling call to action for educators, parents, and policymakers to rethink traditional educational paradigms and embrace the transformative potential of empowering children to take an active role in designing their own futures. _______________ This episode is brought to you by the ChangeMakers Voices Podcast, a platform dedicated to exploring the experiences and stories of the ChangeMakers community, including Kabuni coin users, Kabuni employees, and participants in any of their projects for change.
