Amy and Shanda serve in leadership roles at Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth, organizations at the forefront of transforming health care into a driver of environmental sustainability and climate action. Dr. Amy Collins is an emergency physician and a sustainable health care professional. She serves as the Medical Director at Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth and leads their health professional engagement work. In her role she leads the Health Care Without Harm Climate-Smart Collective, a national network of health professionals committed to reducing the environmental impact of health care and advancing climate-smart health care through mitigation, resilience, and leadership. She speaks internationally about the intersection between climate change, health and health care and the role of the health care sector in advancing climate solutions. Shanda Demorest, DNP, RN, PHN is the Senior Director for Network Experience & Solutions at Health Care Without Harm and Practice Greenhealth. Dr. Demorest earned her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Health Innovation and Leadership from the University of Minnesota, and she holds the LEED Green Associate credential through the U.S. Green Building Council. Dr. Demorest serves as an Affiliate Faculty member at the University of Minnesota School of Nursing and has published works on environmental sustainability in health care and the health impacts of climate change. Together, Amy and Shanda share how the health care sector can be a powerful force for climate action, and highlight the growing career opportunities at the intersection of health care and sustainability.
