When Your Beliefs Clash With Scripture: Who Wins? | Truth in Love

What happens when Scripture confronts something you have believed for years? Who gets the final word? In Season 3, Episode 33 of Two Faithful Brews and the Good News, Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce begin in Galatians and Genesis and follow the covenant story from Abraham, Isaac, and Israel toward its ultimate foundation in Jesus Christ. The conversation begins with covenant and asks whether we can become so consumed with modern arguments, governments, borders, culture, and politics that we miss the redemptive story underneath it all. From there, Paul and Uncle Royce move into a deeper question about humanism and authority: what happens when mankind begins treating itself as the final authority for truth? That question does not stop with government. It reaches the church. It reaches denominational traditions. And eventually, it reaches each one of us. Uncle Royce talks candidly about his own journey from simply holding tightly to what he had been taught toward pursuing a deeper understanding of the character of God. The conversation then turns to Galatians 1, where Paul warns believers about being drawn toward “another gospel” and allowing the Gospel of Christ to be changed into something else. That raises a difficult question for the Church today: Are we faithfully proclaiming Scripture to this generation, or are we trying to make Scripture fit this generation? But conviction cannot become an excuse for hatred. Paul and Uncle Royce bring the conversation back to Ephesians 4:15 — speaking the truth in love. Biblical conviction does not require hatred toward people. The episode emphasizes that believers can reject ideas, condemn evil actions, disagree with religious beliefs, and challenge governments while still remembering that people are the ones Christ died to reach. And then the question becomes personal: When Scripture confronts my politics, who wins? When Scripture confronts my traditions, who wins? When Scripture confronts my desires or something I have believed for thirty years, who wins? Because if God is only Lord when we agree with Him, then we have made ourselves the final authority. The episode closes where the entire conversation ultimately belongs: Jesus Christ, the Sure Foundation. First Corinthians 3:11 declares that no other foundation can be laid than Jesus Christ. ☕ Two Faithful Brews and the Good News https://twofaithfulbrewsandthegoodnews.riverside.com/ Visit paulpurifoy.com to subscribe and receive the free ebook When Life Makes You Question: Is There a God? The Cost of Impatience: When We Try to Help God | Isaac & Ishmael | Part 2

What happens when God gives you a promise, but you get tired of waiting for Him to fulfill it? That is where Season 3, Episode 32 of Two Faithful Brews and the Good News begins. In Part 1, Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce asked whether man can overrule God and explored God's authority, Abraham, and covenant. Now in Part 2, the conversation moves deeper into Isaac, Ishmael, Genesis 17, God's promise, and Abraham's struggle to trust God's timing. Abraham had the promise. He had the covenant. He had God's Word. But before Isaac arrived, Abraham and Sarah attempted to accomplish through human effort what God had already promised to accomplish Himself. And that raises a much bigger question for us: How much trouble begins when we try to produce through the flesh what God has promised to bring by His Spirit? Genesis 17 gives an important distinction. God says concerning Ishmael, “I have blessed him,” while also declaring concerning Isaac, “My covenant will I establish with Isaac.” That distinction leads Paul and Uncle Royce into a deeper discussion about faith, spiritual deception, the development of Abraham's trust, Scripture, discernment, the church, and the danger of mistaking an alternative for the fulfillment of God's promise. Because sometimes deception does not arrive looking obviously evil. Sometimes it looks almost right. Sometimes it looks close enough to God's promise that we convince ourselves it must be God's will. And that is where believers must know God's Word, know His character, learn to wait, learn to discern, and learn how to stand. The conversation also makes an important distinction concerning people: biblical conviction must never become an excuse to treat whole ethnic or religious groups as though they are beyond the reach of the Gospel. Christians are still commanded to carry the Gospel to the whole world. So before this episode ends, the question becomes personal: Am I trusting what God promised, or am I trying to manufacture the outcome myself? Faith is not simply believing God can do something. Faith is learning to trust Him enough to let Him do it His way. ☕ Two Faithful Brews and the Good News https://twofaithfulbrewsandthegoodnews.riverside.com/ Visit paulpurifoy.com and subscribe to receive Paul Purifoy's free ebook, When Life Makes You Question: Is There a God? Stop Trying to Overrule God: The Reality of the Great I AM | Part 1

Can mankind overrule God? Or does man simply suffer the consequences when he believes he can? In Season 3, Episode 31, Part 1 of Two Faithful Brews and the Good News, Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce begin with a question that reaches far beyond politics: Who has the final authority? Government? Culture? The church? Our feelings? Our traditions? Or God? Beginning with the declaration of Exodus 3:14, “I AM THAT I AM,” Paul and Uncle Royce explore what it means that God is not merely the God of biblical history. He is not the Great I Was. He is the Great I AM. The conversation moves into biblical authority, Abraham, Genesis 12, Genesis 15, covenant, government, culture, the church, and the danger of treating something God established as though mankind has the authority to redefine or cancel it. The episode also turns the question inward: before we point toward governments, political movements, nations, or culture, where have we known what Scripture says and still allowed our opinions, emotions, politics, traditions, or comfort to have the final word? This is ultimately a conversation about authority. If God is truly the Great I AM, His authority does not disappear because culture changes. His Word does not become less true because mankind rejects it. And His faithfulness does not depend upon whether humanity agrees with Him. This is Part 1. In Part 2, Paul and Uncle Royce will continue deeper into Abraham's covenant, Isaac, Ishmael, Israel, and what Scripture actually says before politics, culture, history, or emotion are allowed to define the discussion. ☕ Two Faithful Brews and the Good News 🌐 https://twofaithfulbrewsandthegoodnews.riverside.com/ Visit paulpurifoy.com and subscribe to receive Paul Purifoy's free book, When Life Makes You Question: Is There a God? The Same Hour: Why God’s Warning Is an Act of Love

How long can pride ignore God’s warning before mercy becomes judgment? In Daniel 4:33, King Nebuchadnezzar discovered the answer: “the same hour.” The warning had been given. Mercy had been extended. Twelve months had passed. But when pride continued to rule, everything changed in a moment. In this episode of Two Faithful Brews and the Good News, Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce close out their study of Daniel chapter 4 and examine what Nebuchadnezzar’s fall means for believers, the Church, and our lives today. God’s patience is not permission. Paul and Uncle Royce discuss the danger of delayed obedience, what happens when conviction is continually ignored, why pride cannot see its own fall coming, and what it really means to call yourself a Christian while your life tells a different story. Uncle Royce puts a name to it: CINO — Christian in Name Only. But Daniel 4 does not end merely with judgment. Nebuchadnezzar exalted himself and was brought low. Jesus humbled Himself and was highly exalted. Pride led one king into the field, while humility led the true King to Calvary. The stump was still in the ground for Nebuchadnezzar, and the cross is still standing for us. Restoration is possible, but pride must first be broken. We do not have to wait until destruction forces us to recognize who sits on the throne. We can humble ourselves, repent, and surrender to Jesus now. The Most High Rules: Why We Don’t Have to Wait for Pride to Destroy Us

What does Daniel 4 teach us about pride, delayed repentance, and the sovereignty of God? Nebuchadnezzar received a clear warning, but twelve months passed without repentance. Then, in the same hour, everything changed. The king who praised his own power was driven from his palace until he learned one unavoidable truth: the Most High rules in the kingdom of men. In this episode of Two Faithful Brews and the Good News, Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce examine Daniel 4:32–33 and the purpose behind Nebuchadnezzar’s seven years of humiliation. They discuss: • Why the words “until thou know” reveal God’s purpose • The difference between believing God exists and living as though He rules • Why God’s patience should never be mistaken for permission • How pride blinds us to approaching consequences • Why not every painful season should be judged as punishment • How the remaining stump reveals that restoration was still possible • The danger of becoming a Christian in name only • Why conviction must be answered before the heart becomes hardened Nebuchadnezzar exalted himself and was brought low. Jesus humbled Himself and was highly exalted. Because of Christ’s death and resurrection, we do not have to wait until pride destroys us. We can repent, surrender, and give God the glory now. While the Word Was Still in His Mouth

What happens when God gives a warning, extends mercy, gives time to repent—and pride still refuses to listen? In this episode of Two Faithful Brews and the Good News, Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce continue their Bible study through Daniel chapter 4, focusing on Daniel 4:31 and one of the most sobering moments in the story of King Nebuchadnezzar. Nebuchadnezzar had been warned. Daniel had interpreted the dream. God had given him twelve months to respond. Yet the king stood in Babylon boasting about everything he believed his own power had accomplished. Then Scripture says: “While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven…” — Daniel 4:31 KJV The judgment Nebuchadnezzar had been warned about was no longer somewhere in the future. Heaven answered while pride was still speaking. Paul and Uncle Royce explore what this passage teaches us about pride, repentance, God’s mercy, judgment, obedience, and the sovereignty of God. They also connect Nebuchadnezzar’s experience with Job, Daniel’s faithfulness in Babylon, and what these biblical truths mean for Christians and the Church today. God’s patience should never be mistaken for God’s permission. Pride tells us there will always be more time. Scripture reminds us that when God speaks, the right time to respond is now. Are we simply hearing what God says, or are we actually obeying Him? Is the intent of our heart aligned with what we claim to believe? Join Paul Purifoy and Uncle Royce as they continue working verse by verse through the Book of Daniel and discover why Daniel 4 is not merely an ancient story about the fall of a Babylonian king—it is a warning about the throne of the human heart.
