122 - The Time Management Skill Working Moms Actually Need

You can have the most organized calendar in the world, and it won't matter the moment the nanny calls off, your kid gets sick, or your car won't start. It's why the most important skill you can develop as a working parent is flexibility. The flexibility to rework your schedule, shorten your to-do list, and get creative with how to get things done.   In this episode I share the self-talk I use to reset my expectations, how I decide what actually has to get done when everything shifts, and how to adjust without losing momentum or burning out. If you're a working parent whose plans keep getting blown up by real life, this episode gives you a way to respond that still moves you forward.     ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================   Want to learn more about coaching? 121 - The Fall Reset Every Working Mom Needs

There's something about back to school that hits different, even when you're not the one walking through the school doors. Our kids get the fresh notebooks, the new outfit, the clean slate. We just... keep working. In this episode, I'm talking about how to use that back-to-school energy for yourself this fall!   I'm sharing why I wait to make changes until after the first week of school, how I'm using the concept of essentialism to choose just a few priorities for this season instead of trying to do it all, and the exact three things I'm focusing on this fall in my home, my business, and beyond. If you've been waiting for the "right" moment to pick something back up or start something new, this is it.   Listen in for a practical way to think about seasonal resets, how to narrow your focus without the guilt, and why working moms especially need to give themselves a fresh start every now and then, not just once a year.     ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================   Essentialism by Greg McKeown   Beyond Balance launches again this fall. 120 - Back to School Checklist for Busy Moms: What to Do Before the First Day

It's back to school season, and if you're anything like me, that means your brain is already running a mental checklist of book bags, lunchboxes, and school supplies. But this episode isn't just a list of errands to check off. I'm sharing everything I'm doing over these next couple of weeks to get my family (and myself) ready for the transition, from the practical stuff like schedule shifts and morning routines, to the part we don't talk about enough, which is managing our own expectations as the ones holding it all together.   I walk you through how I'm shifting bedtimes and wake times without the shock of an abrupt change, how I'm reducing decision fatigue for my kids (and me) with simple systems for lunch and breakfast, and why the way I think about this season matters just as much as anything on my to-do list.   If you've ever felt like the back-to-school transition hits you harder than it should, this is for you.   ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================     Click here to learn about coaching with Katelyn   ==========================   📲 Stay Connected!   ==========================   💌 Join my email list for weekly coaching tips & other resources ➡️ Subscribe to The Working Mom Journal newsletter 📸 Follow me on Instagram for working mom inspo ➡️https://www.instagram.com/lovemothernurture/ 🤝 Connect with me on LinkedIn ➡️https://www.linkedin.com/in/katelyndenning/   New episodes drop every Tuesday! Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an episode.   And if this episode made you rethink about how you balance work and life as a working mom, send it to a friend!

119 - You Are Not Your To-Do List

When's the last time someone asked, "What's new with you?" and the honest answer was... nothing? Just more tasks. More logistics. More chores.   I've been noticing this in my own life lately - how conversations with my husband have turned into status updates. How "how was your day" gets answered with a list of what got done instead of what I actually thought or felt or laughed about. And I know I'm not the only one.   In this episode, I'm talking about what happens when working moms slowly stop being a full person and start being project managers. I share a story about a former coaching client whose "article night" with her husband brought back a part of her she'd almost forgotten existed, plus a few small, doable shifts you can make this week to remember there's a human under that to-do list.   In this episode:   Why your to-do list was never meant to be your whole identity   A simple weekly practice for reconnecting with your partner beyond logistics   Three small ways to make space for the "you" outside of your tasks     ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================   Read The Correspondent by Virginia Evans   Learn more about my small group time management program - Beyond Balance   For more immediate, personalized support, click here to apply for 1:1 coaching   ==========================   📲 Stay Connected!

118 - Sleep vs. 'Me Time': The Trade Working Moms Don't Want to Make

It's the debate all working moms have with themselves - do I go to bed on time or do I stay up to finally have some time to myself?   This week I'm talking about the thing that comes up in coaching almost every single week: sleep. Not because it's exciting or Instagram-worthy self-care, but because it might be the most underrated productivity tool we have.   I get into why I used to think protecting my evening "me time" was sacred, the real cost of staying up late (hello, snapping at your partner over nothing), the phone-battery analogy that finally made this click for me, and how a longtime coaching client rebuilt her sleep habits this summer with just a couple of small, boring shifts. Plus, three simple things you can test this week if you're ready to treat your bedtime like the productivity tool it actually is.   If you've ever told yourself "I'll go to bed early tomorrow" and then stayed up anyway, this one's for you.   ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================   Episode 112 - What to Do the First 3 Days Back from Vacation (so you don't spiral)   Join the Beyond Balance waitlist! 117 - 4 Ways to Actually Do the Thing You Keep Saying You'll Do

In this episode, I'm digging into why we say we need to do something more than we actually do it, and what that gap is quietly costing us. Because every time you say, "I should really do that" and then don't, you're eroding trust with yourself.   It's the same reason your kid raises an eyebrow when you tell them to get off their phone while you're scrolling yours. What we DO speaks so much louder than what we SAY, including to ourselves.   I'm walking through the exact four options I give myself and my clients anytime something is sitting on the "I need to do that" list and going nowhere — whether that's the donation pile, your pelvic floor exercises, that SOP document, or the permission slip deadline. No more vague guilt. Just a clear decision tree so you can stop saying it and start doing it.   If you're a working mom who's tired of watching your to-do list grow while your follow-through stays flat, this is for you.   ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================    Learn all about what it's like to work with Katelyn → www.themothernurture.com/work-with-me   ==========================   📲 Stay Connected!   ==========================   💌 Join my email list for weekly coaching tips & other resources ➡️ Subscribe to Working Mom Wednesday newsletter 📸 Follow me on Instagram for working mom inspo ➡️https://www.instagram.com/lovemothernurture/ 🤝 Connect with me on LinkedIn ➡️https://www.linkedin.com/in/katelyndenning/   New episodes drop every Tuesday! Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an episode.   And if this episode made you rethink about how you balance work and life as a working mom, send it to a friend!

116 - Why "Just for This Season" Keeps Turning Into Forever (And How to Stop It)

In this episode, I'm talking about that exact moment: the one where you've dropped a ball or burned the candle at both ends one too many nights, and you finally have to decide what to let go of. I share two of my own stories — giving up running after my first child was born, and later stepping out of a travel-heavy sales role after my third — and why both of those choices, while hard, weren't permanent verdicts on who I am.   Because here's the trap I see so often with working moms: we make a smart, necessary choice to scale back for a season, and then that "for now" quietly turns into "just how things are" for years, without us ever checking back in. I'll walk you through why that happens and give you a simple way to build in an actual check-in point, so your choices stay choices, not permanent sentences.   If you've ever had to cut something you loved to survive a season of parenting, work, or life, this one's for you.   ==========================   🔗 Links & Resources:   ==========================   Is coaching right for you? 115 - Career Growth for Moms Who Don't Have Time for Career Growth

If you're a working mom who hasn't thought about your career in... a while — this episode is for you.   Whether you're starting to wonder what's next, feeling that quiet burn of "is this even worth it anymore," or just want to stop being caught off guard when someone asks where you see yourself in five years, we're talking about those bigger picture career questions that tend to get pushed to the bottom of the list when life is full and you're just trying to keep up. But here's the truth: career growth doesn't stop just because you're also raising kids. You just need a different approach.   In this episode, I'm sharing four simple routines that can help you stay connected to where you're headed professionally, without adding a massive project to your already full plate. We're talking 15 minutes. That's it.   And if you're ready to take this further with real support and a plan, I'm currently accepting 1:1 coaching clients this summer.
