Teaching Tech Episode 3 - The Gear Trap

I used to think the next camera was going to fix everything. The truth is, gear matters, but it won't create the video for you. As a content creator, filmmaker, or podcaster, it's easy to get caught in the gear trap, believing that the next piece of equipment is the key to success. I’ve been there, obsessing over the latest cameras and lenses, thinking they would elevate my work. But here's the kicker: the best camera isn't the one with the highest specs; it's the one that fits your workflow and helps you create consistently. In this video, I share my personal journey through the gear trap, revealing what I bought, what I actually use, and what I would do differently if I were starting over. I learned that while ambition drives us to seek better tools, it can also lead to endless research and procrastination. I’ll discuss my experiences with various cameras, including the Canon 80D, Blackmagic Pocket Cinema, and Sony FX30, and how I discovered that sometimes, simpler tools like my phone or the DJI Pocket 3 can be more effective for my needs. I also dive into the importance of asking the right questions before making a purchase. Instead of focusing on whether a camera is the best on paper, consider if it will actually help you create better content. The gear you choose should solve the current problems you face, not just be the latest trend. Remember, the gear can enhance your workflow, but it won't do the hard work for you. You still need to press record, edit, and keep creating. So, if you're feeling stuck in the gear trap, join me as I share insights that can help you break free and focus on what truly matters: your creativity. Let’s embrace the tools that empower us to make something amazing. Until next time, this is Teaching Tech. Now go make something! Teaching Tech Episode 2 - The Workflow Thing

The workflow is the system that helps keep you creating when life gets busy, when the edit gets messy, and when the gear gets complicated. I'm Professor Cannetti, and in this video, I dive deep into the real version of podcast workflow. Forget the influencer version; I’m talking about the messy, evolving process that actually keeps you going.  When I first started podcasting, I had no idea what I was doing, but I learned that you don’t need the perfect setup to start. You just need a working microphone and a willingness to figure things out as you go. I’ve been there, researching gear and dreaming of the perfect setup, only to realize that the best workflow is the one that removes excuses.  As I navigated through various tools and platforms, I discovered that easy beats perfect when it helps you keep creating. I also learned the hard way that sometimes, the spark for your content can come from the most unexpected moments. If you’re feeling overwhelmed or stuck, it’s time to rethink your workflow.  I share my journey from using Skype to Zoom, Zencaster, and Riverside, and how each step helped me refine my process. The goal is to keep creating, not to get bogged down by perfection. So, if you’re waiting for the perfect moment to start, stop waiting! Start with what you have, improve as you go, and build a workflow that empowers you to make the things you want to make. Let’s get creating together! Teaching Tech Episode 1 - I started with a $30 Microphone

When I started podcasting, I did not have a studio or fancy equipment. I had a simple $30 USB microphone and a big idea. This microphone is not the best I own, but it’s the most important one because it got me started. In this video, I share my journey from that humble beginning to becoming a podcasting expert. I’ll break down the essentials of podcasting, content creation, and the technology that can help you bring your ideas to life. You don’t need the perfect setup to start; you just need a topic and the courage to hit record. I’ll guide you through the gear I’ve used over the years, the lessons I’ve learned, and how to upgrade your equipment purposefully as your podcast evolves. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to improve your workflow, I’ll provide tips on choosing the right microphone, understanding audio settings, and adapting to changes in your recording environment. So grab your microphone, and let’s dive into the world of podcasting together. Remember, it’s not about having the best gear; it’s about finding your voice and sharing it with the world.
