Morbid Outdoors

I found this podcast pretty recently. I love this genre in general as a backpacker and hiker. The host puts a lot of effort and time into researching and writing these shows. It’s definitely listenable. It is a primitive show to be sure with no sound design, no guests, no interviews, just the host talking. And a lot of times she is just reading a script it sounds like, which makes for a lot of verbal mistakes and corrections, and also doesn’t connect with the listener that well. But these are just things I hope to see improve.

You’re NOT saying anything in Oregon right. You mispronounced Willamette?!?! And Esta-Sada? Yiiiikes come on dude. It rhymes with dammit and Cada like CAYDE-uh as in Incestacada or “I gotta drive down the hill to ‘Cada” we got twang here this is a PSA thank you

I love that the hosts does land acknowledgements, although they should end with a call for land back. It recognizes that those groups are still here today and we wouldn’t have these parks or lands without their stewardship for thousands of years, but hopefully it will inspire listeners support the indigenous communities of their favorite parks, or their local indigenous communities, and reflect on the horrors of colonialism then and now. I’m hoping the host will herself be inspired and share some unsugarcoated native stories.

After hearing 1 episode, I’am hooked! Can’t wait to hear all the stories. Very interesting. Glad I found you!
