Scaling a Wellness Empire with Scott Capelin

Transitioning from the corporate grind into entrepreneurship isn't just about changing your job, but about reclaiming your freedom and taking your destiny into your own hands. But scaling a brand to nearly 80 locations across three countries requires much more than just a good business plan. It demands alignment with your core values and managing your daily energy. In this episode, we sit down with Scott Capelin, founder of inLIFE Wellness, a boutique reformer Pilates franchise brand. Scott shares his transition from a late-90s corporate role to personal training, how he built an international franchise purely through organic growth, and why he chooses inspiration over motivation. Motivation vs. Inspiration Scott doesn't believe in traditional motivation. During his 17 years as a personal trainer, he saw how people relied on motivation as accountability. The Pull of Inspiration: Motivation is like giving yourself a pep talk while crawling across hot coals to reach a goal. Inspiration, on the other hand, is when the goal naturally pulls you forward. No Reminders Needed: When you do work that aligns with who you are, you don't need to be reminded or pushed to jump on your laptop every morning. Sacred Morning Routines and Energy Management Entrepreneurship gives you the freedom to set your schedule, making your early morning hours a sacred space to fill your cup. Protect Your Mornings: Scott's morning starts with a quick 10-minute check for urgent emails, followed by a walk to his favourite cafe for a coffee and a Danish, a beach walk, and time helping his daughters get to school before starting his workday at 9:00 AM. Best Ideas Happen in "Me Time": Unplugged morning walks and coffee routines create the mental clarity where your best business ideas are born. Manage Energy, Not Just Time: Avoid mid-day slumps by fueling your body properly. Prioritising high-protein, good-fat meals keeps your mind sharp and energy steady throughout the day. Scaling a Franchise Organically While many franchise brands spend millions on cheesy online ads to attract buyers, inLIFE Wellness grew to 80 locations through internal culture and accessible entry points. Culture Over Capital: Scott focuses heavily on head office, studio, and instructor culture, creating a clear vehicle for passionate people to take the next step in their careers. Lowering the Barrier to Entry: Most boutique fitness studios cost $500,000 to $600,000 to open, but Scott lowered his opening cost to around $200,000, making business ownership vastly more accessible and affordable. Taking Your Destiny into Your Own Hands: 41% of people want to start a business, but only 3% do due to perceived risk. Yet staying in corporate jobs holds its own risks, like sudden redundancies or capped growth. Redefining Success Through Core Values Success isn't about accumulating expensive things that don't matter or looking at snapshot lives on social media. Living in Alignment: Success means living a life where you feel at peace because your daily activities align directly with your top personal core values, whether those are traits like integrity or activities like travel. Cut Out the Noise: Avoid demotivation and anxiety by tuning out expectations from school, society, or social media, and focus on what genuinely fulfils you. My Challenge to You This week, audit your daily schedule to see if you are managing your time or your energy. Pick one sacred morning habit, like a 20-minute walk without your phone, to fill your cup before diving into work tasks. Dr. Hayley Quinn on Creating a Business that Aligns with Your Values

For high-achieving entrepreneurs, it's easy to fall into the trap of building a business based on what everyone else says you "should" do. But when you push yourself using self-criticism or ignore your personal needs, it almost always leads to severe burnout. In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Hayley Quinn, a former clinical psychologist turned wellbeing, mindset, and business coach, and author of From Self-Neglect to Self-Compassion.  After experiencing burnout in 2016 and receiving a late diagnosis of Autism and ADHD in 2022, Dr. Hayley completely redesigned her approach to entrepreneurship. We explore how to build a sustainable "blend" of life and work, the power of self-compassion over self-criticism, and how neurodivergent founders can harness their unique brains for success. Designing a Business Around Your Brain As a neurodivergent entrepreneur, Dr. Hayley realised that finding autonomy and freedom was key to her success. Instead of trying to force herself into a traditional template, she structured her business around her specific strengths and needs: Honouring Dopamine-Seeking Brains: To satisfy her ADHD need for novelty while accommodating her autistic need for structure, Dr. Hayley runs her podcast in distinct seasons and keeps her group coaching programs time-limited. Flexible Daily Schedules: She sets her own working hours, starting later in the day so she never feels rushed into her tasks. Permission to Evolve: Your business should grow alongside you. If a program or service no longer brings you joy or fits your life, give yourself full permission to change or rebrand it. The Myth of Work-Life Balance: Finding Your "Blend" Dr. Hayley rejects the traditional idea of strict "work-life balance," advocating instead for a dynamic "blend". The Smoothie Analogy: Think of your life like a smoothie, some days you need more rest, and other days you want to pour extra energy into your work. Your ideal mix will naturally change from day to day. Alignment Prevents Burnout: Burnout doesn't just come from working too many hours; it also happens when you spend energy on tasks that don't align with who you are or what you enjoy. Build an Entrepreneurial Circle: Connect with fellow founders who understand the entrepreneurial mindset, as it can be difficult for non-entrepreneurs to understand the unique challenges you face. Why Self-Compassion Is Your Ultimate Competitive Edge Many entrepreneurs believe that beating themselves up is the only way to stay motivated. Dr. Hayley explains why this mindset is entirely wrong: Courage, Strength, and Wisdom: At its core, self-compassion isn't about "letting yourself off the hook," it's about treating yourself like your fondest friend and wisest guide. Motivation Over Threat: Research shows that self-compassion is far more motivating than self-criticism. Harsh self-talk activates your threat system, whereas kindness nourishes your nervous system so you can perform at your best. The "Employee Test": You wouldn't hire an employee who talks down to you or makes you doubt yourself, so stop treating yourself that way. My Challenge to You This week, perform an honesty audit on your workload. Identify one task that drains your energy or doesn't align with how you work best. Decide if you can outsource it, change how you do it, or eliminate it completely so you can make room for a better blend. Thinking Like a Six-Year-Old: Building a Multi-Brand Empire with Hendrix DeMarchii

Starting a business is impressive at any age, but six-year-old Hendrix DeMarchii is taking entrepreneurship to a whole new level. As the founder of Hendrix Pet Co., published author, musician, and clothing designer, Hendrix proves that age is just a number when you have curiosity, action, and a simple strategy. In this episode, we talk with Hendrix about how a stroll in a dog park sparked a pet treat business, how he manages his daily balance between playtime and business, and why he recently won Startup of the Year 2026 out of 15,000 international applicants. How a Dog Park Idea Turned Into an Empire Most six-year-olds are just playing at the park, but Hendrix saw a business opportunity while out walking dogs with his mom. Start Local and Face-to-Face: Hendrix started by selling dog treats in person directly at the local dog park. This allowed him to meet dog owners, learn about new breeds, and build genuine relationships. Listen and Iterate Fast: When Hendrix realised some customers couldn't read the text labels clearly, he and his mom updated the packaging from generic cat designs to actual photos of dogs to make it clearer. Scooter Deliveries: Hendrix built exclusive product offerings by riding around his neighbourhood on a scooter to sell directly to pet owners face-to-face. Don't Put All Your Eggs in One Basket Hendrix believes every entrepreneur should have "five backdrops" in business, meaning multiple streams of income so you always have something to rely on. Hendrix Pet Co.: Natural dog treats, expanding soon into meal toppers, horse treats, and guinea pig treats. HDM Apparel: His own custom clothing line. Music Career: Writing and releasing his own original music, including his track Take Me There on Spotify. Author: Writing and publishing his book, Think Like a Six-Year-Old, in just two weeks. Dog Walking Services: Offering hands-on pet care services in his local community. Balancing "Playtime and Business" Balancing primary school with managing a fast-growing brand isn't always easy (Hendrix jokingly calls school "prison" because you can't leave whenever you want). However, maintaining balance comes down to keeping things fun. Dedicated Playtime: Hendrix sets clear boundaries between work and play, whether that's attending weekend festivals or playing Roblox in the car. Focusing on the Fun: For Hendrix, the best part of running a business isn't just making money; it's getting out into the world, making human friends, and meeting fluffy dogs like German Shepherds and Labradors. Vision for the Future: Hendrix is already planning global expansion, setting goals to open his own factory, get into local pet stores, and export his products to New Zealand. My Challenge to You Take a page out of Hendrix's book and keep it simple. If you've been sitting on a business idea or overcomplicating your strategy, step out into your community, talk to real people, and test your product face-to-face. The Power of Communication in a Digital World with Katerina Cozias

In a world where algorithms dictate our attention spans and AI is quickly taking over everyday operations, it can feel like true connection is getting lost in the noise. But according to Katerina Cozias, media veteran of over 25 years, communications expert, and founder of Charismark Communications, human connection isn't dead. It's actually your ultimate competitive advantage. Katerina has spent decades both in front of and behind the camera in Hollywood, interviewing stars like Elton John and red-carpet reporting at the Oscars. Today, she helps executives, entrepreneurs, and young leaders master the art of presence, tone, and digital communication. In this episode, we explore how to communicate with impact in a virtual world, why it's never too late to pursue your dreams, and how to harness your presence to command any room. The 90-Year-Old Self Exercise Katerina started her career in business and finance, spending ten years in oil and gas before finally making the leap to Hollywood in her 30s. If you're feeling lost or worried you're "too late" to start, she shares a powerful exercise: Write a Letter from Your Future Self: Imagine yourself at 90 years old and write a letter back to your current self. Cut Through the Internal Noise: Ask what your 90-year-old self would tell you about your current fears, doubts, and hesitations. Get in Alignment: Listening to that perspective makes it surprisingly simple to step out of fear and into your true north. The Secret Mechanics of Communication We often think communication is just about picking the right words, but Katerina breaks down the actual science of how our messaging lands: The 5/35/60 Rule: Only 5% of communication comes from the actual words you say. 30% to 35% comes from your vocal tone, inflection, and pitch. A massive 50% to 55% comes purely from body language. The Shift from Presentation to Presence: Communication used to be about how you presented. Today, in a society with an average eight-second attention span, it's about how you cut through the noise to establish trust. The "King on the Throne" Presence: Authority doesn't come from rushing or speaking the loudest. True presence comes from being the calmest person in the room, stabilising the nervous system of the space before you even say a word. Protecting Your Energy as an Entrepreneur To stay creative and avoid burnout, setting clear boundaries around your technology is essential. Hard Daily Cut-offs: Katerina enforces a strict 7:00 PM boundary where she stops responding to work messages to protect family time and recharge. The Twice-a-Year Tech Detox: Twice a year (typically in January and August), Katerina spends 3 to 5 days entirely unplugged with no phone, no laptop, no TV, and no digital clocks. Quiet the Noise for Inspiration: Removing digital stimulation forces you through initial withdrawal, opening up space for deep reflection and creative breakthroughs. Why the Human Element Wins in an AI World While AI automation is transforming how businesses operate, Katerina notes that the human element is becoming more valuable than ever. The AI Fatigue Factor: By mid-2027, many companies that replaced staff with AI bots are projected to rehire human capital because bots lack empathy, judgment, and nuanced communication. Communication is a Hard Skill: Communication isn't just a "soft skill," but a core strategy for business success, interest negotiations, and long-term client retention. Building Real Relationships: Winning in business isn't about using a short attention span to trick someone into a sale, but about establishing trust so both parties walk away winning. My Challenge to You This week, try the 90-Year-Old Self Exercise. Pour yourself a warm drink, sit in a quiet space, and write a letter from your 90-year-old self to where you are today. Let your future self remind you of what truly matters and give you the push you need to take action. Touch-Led Mastery with Isabella Loneragan

Entrepreneurship isn't always "rainbows and butterflies," and running multiple businesses while raising a family is anything but simple. But according to Isabella Loneragan, a 20-year veteran of the skincare industry, true success comes from leaning into your unique value, specifically, the power of the human touch. Isabella is the founder of two skin clinics, the product line Skin For My Skin, and the Skinformé Academy, where she teaches advanced, touch-led facial massage techniques to empower therapists to build thriving careers.  In this episode, we dive into why the traditional beauty diploma is failing new founders, how touch-led treatments can regulate the human nervous system, and why we need to stop feeling guilty about "work-life balance." The Work-Life Balance Fallacy There is a lot of pressure on business owners, especially women, to maintain a perfect work-life balance, but Isabella believes this expectation is harmful. Reassurance Over Perfection: When founders struggle to "do it all," it leads to unnecessary guilt and burnout. Expecting total balance while scaling businesses and raising a family is a fallacy. Be Opportunistic: Instead of searching for perfect balance, grab micro-resets. Take 15 minutes to boil a kettle and sit quietly looking out a window rather than typing at your laptop or scrolling through social media. Ask for Support: Isabella's husband left his career to join her businesses full-time to help manage the workload, highlighting the importance of having a strong support system for your administrative and technical tasks. Why Advanced Touch is Future-Proof While many entrepreneurs worry about AI replacing their jobs, human touch is an irreplaceable craft. Beyond the Standard Diploma: Traditional beauty diplomas in Australia have become increasingly outdated and heavily shifted to online models, missing the crucial practical experience required to master touch. The Wellness Era: Modern clients are overstimulated, burnt out, and touch-starved. A great facial therapist doesn't just treat the top layer of skin; they regulate the client's nervous system through parasympathetic rest. The Buccal Facial Massage: Isabella was a pioneer in bringing buccal (intraoral) facial massage to Australia. By massaging facial muscles from the inside out, the treatment releases physical and emotional tension around the masseter muscle, transforming a routine appointment into a high-retention experience. Building Long-Term Success Through Client Trust Clients don't just buy the promised results; they buy their trust in you to guide them. Never Skip the Consultation: Isabella strictly requires a first-time consultation for every new client. Talking face-to-face allows you to uncover true pain points that a pre-emailed form will never reveal. Pre-Qualifying Clients: Turning away clients who refuse a consultation isn't a loss, but it filters out people who aren't serious about their skin journey, saving you from vicious cycles with the wrong clientele. Listen More Than You Speak: Slow down, ask open-ended questions, and let the client speak. Genuine connection naturally leads to client retention, referrals, and higher product sales. 5 Marketing Tips to Stand Out in Your Industry Marketing doesn't need to be complicated to be effective. Isabella shares five practical strategies to build authority: Stop Appealing to Everyone: Pre-qualify your audience in your messaging. If you try to speak to everyone, your marketing becomes exhausting and expensive. Be Known for One Niche: Instead of offering every service under the sun, focus on what you excel at so people immediately connect your name to that specialty. Teach, Don't Just Sell: Pitch value and education. Explaining why a treatment reduces stress or cortisol levels builds authority far better than pushing a sales pitch. Show Your Thinking: Share your expert perspective on industry trends or hot topics to help your audience understand things differently. Consistency Over Perfection: Don't let the pursuit of "perfect lighting" or flawless delivery stop you from posting. Embrace "one-shot wonder" content to keep your momentum going. Connect with Isabella Loneragan: Website: skinformeacademy.com Instagram: instagram.com/isabellaloneragan  My Challenge to You This week, give yourself permission to drop the guilt of "doing it all." Take one 15-minute micro-break during a busy day to disconnect completely: no screens, no emails, just a quiet moment to reset. Then, review your marketing to see if you are clearly communicating your specific niche. Enjoyed this episode? Building Ethical Conversions with Ammarah Ahmed

Every founder knows the frustration: you launch your brand, you set up your store, but the sales just aren't coming in. The standard playbook says that when conversions drop, you immediately tweak your ad targeting, swap your creatives, or throw more money at marketing. But according to Ammarah Ahmed, founder of Precision Consulting, that is almost always the wrong move. Ammarah is a behavioural psychology-based CRO (Conversion Rate Optimisation) and UX/UI consultant with over a decade of experience across 15 countries. In this episode, we dive into why pouring money into ads won't fix a broken website funnel, what Gen Z is teaching us about setting boundaries, and how "dark patterns" are quietly destroying your customer lifetime value. The Ad Trap: Why Blaming Marketing is the Easy Way Out When a business isn't hitting its sales goals, it's incredibly easy to blame the traffic or the platform's algorithm. But burning through cash to get people to your site is useless if the onsite experience forces them to look away. The Broken Expectation Funnel: Think about it as a customer: you see a specific product in an Instagram ad, click it, and get dropped onto a generic page with a hundred unrelated items. The product you actually wanted is nowhere to be found, so you leave out of frustration. The "Legitimacy" Variable: Anyone can build a website today. If your layout looks spammy, slow, or unsafe, visitors will bounce out of fear of losing their credit card details. Stop the Instant Pop-ups: Giving someone a "10% off" pop-up the exact second they land on your page, before they even know what you sell, doesn't build value. It just signals that you want to spam their inbox. The True Cost of Tricking Your Customers Ammarah speaks passionately about ethical conversion, the practice of prioritising long-term customer trust over short-term deceitful tactics. Many large corporations utilise "dark patterns" in their UI, colour-coding buttons or hiding subscription settings behind a six-step labyrinth just to keep users from cancelling. The Moment of Realisation: A tricky user interface might win you a quick conversion in the moment, but the second the customer realises they were fooled, you lose them forever. Destroying Lifetime Value: When customers feel cheated, you don't just lose a single transaction, but you destroy their lifetime value and ensure they will never recommend you. The AI and Review Economy: In modern markets, word-of-mouth is amplified by platforms like Reddit, Trustpilot, and even AI search engines that pull from real human feedback. If your brand is flagged as untrustworthy on those platforms, you lose access to your second-highest source of new customers. Leaving Corporate to Build on Principles Ammarah spent years climbing into boardrooms only to find she was often the only woman in the decision-making room. Part of her motivation for launching her own firm was to build a workplace rooted in servant leadership, employee experience, and authentic values, not just leadership principles printed as colourful slogans on a wall. The Gen Z Revolution: Ammarah notes that millennials paved the path for setting workplace boundaries, but Gen Z has completely changed the game. Their zero-filter refusal to tolerate toxic work environments serves as an incredible inspiration for modern business owners to lead with genuine integrity. Stepping Into the Unknown: Coming from a South Asian background where leaving a stable job without a backup plan is heavily questioned, taking the entrepreneurial plunge was terrifying. But by channelling a "success is the only option" mindset, Ammarah chose flexibility and impact over corporate safety. How to Maintain Balance as a Solo Founder Without a co-founder to lean on during a motivational crisis, solo founders easily risk falling into severe burnout loops. Ammarah's solution? Treating personal rest with the same respect as a business meeting. Calendar Integration: Put everyday essentials, like eating lunch, reading a book, or litter box cleaning, directly onto your digital calendar with 10-minute reminders. Advance Planning: Book dinner reservations with friends days ahead. Knowing someone is waiting for you at the restaurant forces you to step away from the desk, giving your mind the physical break it needs to return with fresh ideas. Connect with Ammarah Ahmed LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/ammarahahmed  Website: goprecision.co My Challenge to You This week, audit your own website through the eyes of a cold visitor. Put yourself in their shoes and look for friction: Is your navigation clear? Are your pricing and return paths transparent? Are you bombarding them with data collection pop-ups too soon? Fix the underlying user experience instead of adjusting your ad spend, and watch your bottom line change. Enjoyed this episode? Blueprint to Your First 100 Followers

If you're a young entrepreneur building your brand, you've probably noticed that getting your first 100 followers feels way harder than getting to the 1,000 mark. You aren't crazy, it is harder.  When you're starting from zero, no one knows you, no one trusts you yet, and it feels like you're posting into a total void. But here's the good news: your first 100 followers aren't about luck. They're about strategy and momentum. In this episode, I'm breaking down a simple, practical blueprint to help you move past zero and start working with the algorithm. Step 1: Start With Your Circle Many young founders skip this step because it feels a little awkward, but don't. Your first followers shouldn't be strangers; they should be your existing network. Text 10 friends or family members: Tell them exactly what you're building. Ask for the share: Ask them to follow and share your page to help build immediate momentum. Why it works: Early engagement tells the algorithm that your content matters, creating the traction you need to build confidence. Step 2: The "20 Comments a Day" Hack If you aren't visible online, you don't exist to the algorithm. One of the fastest ways to get noticed is to "borrow" attention before you have your own. Be strategic: Leave thoughtful comments on 20 relevant posts within your niche every single day. Avoid the "fire emoji" trap: Don't just leave emojis; write something smart so the creator and their audience actually see you. The Profile Funnel: When people see a smart comment, they get curious and check out your profile. If your profile is clear and valuable, they'll hit follow. Step 3: The Three-Times-a-Week Content Formula You don't need to post every single day; you just need to post intentionally. Stick to three posts per week using this specific mix: The Value Post: Teach something practical, like tips, frameworks, or mistakes to avoid. This positions you as someone useful and builds respect. The Personal Post: Share a failure, a lesson, or a realisation from your journey. People follow people, not just information. This builds a real connection. The Behind-the-Scenes Post: Show your workspace, your planning process, or your struggles. This builds reliability and authenticity. Why the First 100 is the Hardest In the beginning, you don't have testimonials or social proof. But once you hit that 100-follower mark, growth begins to compound: engagement increases, shares go up, and your own confidence grows. This milestone isn't about popularity, it's about proving to yourself that you're serious. My Challenge to You This week, stop worrying about the algorithm and start taking action. Text 10 people in your inner circle today and ask them to support your new page. Then commit to the 20 comments-a-day hack for the next seven days. Small, strategic moves create big momentum. Beyond the Numbers: Mastering Your Money Psychology with Tam Relia

We often focus so much on the operations, marketing, and "hustle" of our businesses that we completely ignore the one thing that keeps the lights on: the financials. But for many of us, looking at a bank account or a profit-and-loss statement doesn't feel like a source of pure chaos and anxiety. In this episode, I'm joined by Tam Relia, founder of Cents & Solutions. Tam is a former accountant of 16 years who realised that financial literacy isn't just about math; it's about money psychology. She shares her powerful journey of losing everything and rebuilding from scratch, proving that money is just a tool and that your mindset is your greatest asset. Why "Money Psychology" Matters More Than Math Most business owners make decisions out of chaos because they aren't financially confident. Tam explains that our relationship with money is often built on patterns we learned as children. The Scarcity vs. Growth Mindset: If you grew up hearing "we can't afford that," you might carry a scarcity mindset into your business, making you too scared to even look at your bank account. Awareness is Step One: You have to ask yourself, "Is this financial pattern helping me today?" If the answer is no, you have the power to change it. Confidence as a Leader: When you actually understand your data, you stop making decisions based on fear and start leading with clarity. Financial Literacy Hacks for Young Entrepreneurs You don't need to be an accountant to run a successful business, but you do need to understand these three core pillars: Profit vs. Cash Flow: Profit is what's left after expenses on paper, but cash flow is what allows you to breathe. You can be "profitable" on books but still be broke if your customers haven't paid you yet. The 1% Habit: Don't wait until you're making millions to save. Start by putting away just 1% of your revenue into separate accounts for tax, profit, and owner's pay. The 72-Hour Rule: Before making an impulsive business purchase or "sale" buy, wait 72 hours. If you still need it, then go for it; usually, you'll realise you can survive without it. Strategic Growth and Pricing Tam highlights that many women and young entrepreneurs struggle with underpricing because they lack confidence in their value. Value-Based Pricing: Price your services based on the value you provide, not just what your competitors are doing. The "Result Economy": Shift your focus from how many hours you work to the results you produce. The 2% Reality: Only 2% of women-led businesses get VC funding, often because they don't know their numbers when asked. Knowing your profit margins is the key to growth. Creating a Business That Runs Without You Tam shares her "No-Fridays" rule and how she maintains balance by focusing on tasks that bring her closer to her goals. On the Business, Not In It: Your goal should be to build a system that can eventually survive without you. Strategic Networking: Ask yourself which events are moving you closer to your "higher self" and your legacy. Connect with Tam Relia Website: centsandsolutions.com.au Email: trelia@sensorsolutions.com.au My Challenge to You This week, face your fears and look at your numbers.
