EP:17 You Don’t Need the Perfect Path: Breaking Into Film & TV with Rhys Bebb | Beyond Fear Podcast

How do you actually get into the film and television industry — especially if you don’t have the perfect CV, the right contacts or a clear career path?In this episode of the Beyond Fear Podcast, Jen is joined by Rhys Bebb, Education and Training Manager at Screen Alliance Wales, to explore what careers in film and TV really look like behind the scenes.Rhys works with people across Wales, from school-age children discovering the industry for the first time to adults considering an entirely new career. We talk about why there is rarely one straightforward route into the screen industry, why adaptability can matter more than qualifications, and how seemingly unrelated skills can become unexpectedly valuable later. We also dig into some of the realities that don’t always make it into the glamorous behind-the-scenes documentaries: freelance work, networking, uncertainty between productions, unpaid experience, rejection, pressure and the importance of understanding what a job actually involves before deciding it is your dream role.Rhys shares stories of people entering the industry through unconventional routes — including a hairdresser who taught herself special-effects make-up using YouTube tutorials before eventually working for Disney — and explains why simply making things, learning continuously and getting involved can take you further than waiting for the perfect opportunity. We also explore the idea that success doesn’t always mean climbing to the top. Sometimes finding the role you genuinely enjoy, becoming brilliant at it and building a career around your strengths is the better destination.Whether you want to work in film and television, are considering changing careers, or simply feel as though your own path has taken a few unexpected detours, this conversation is a reminder that very little experience is truly wasted.Find out more about Screen Alliance Wales and Rhys’s work through the links below.Instagram: / screenalliancewales Facebook: / screenalliancewalesWeb: / www.screenalliancewales.comemail: / info@screenalliancewales.comBeyond Fear explores the psychology, experiences and decisions that shape the way we live — particularly what happens when we stop allowing fear to make those decisions for us.Follow me on:YouTube: / @beyondfearpodcastInstagram: / jenniFEARsummers Facebook: / wrexhammassageLinkedIn: / jen-summersTikTok: / jensummers666

EP 16: How to Find Yourself: Motivation, Self-Belief & Starting Over with Deb Basham | Beyond Fear Podcast

How to Find Yourself Again: Motivation, Self-Belief & Starting Over | Beyond Fear PodcastHave you ever reached a point in life where you suddenly think: who actually am I now?In this episode of the Beyond Fear Podcast, Jen talks with qualified therapist and life coach Deb Basham about what it means to lose yourself — and how you begin finding your way back. For many women, years can be spent being someone’s partner, mum, daughter, employee or caregiver. Then something changes. The children grow up. A relationship ends. Your career no longer fits. You hit your 40s or 50s and realise you’ve spent so much time thinking about what everybody else needs that you’re not entirely sure what you want anymore. We explore motivation, confidence and self-belief - but without pretending that positive thinking magically fixes everything.Debbie shares her journey from the corporate world into life coaching, person-centred therapy and solution-focused therapy, and we discuss why understanding yourself is sometimes only the beginning. At some point, you also need to work out what happens next.We talk about why fear of failure and judgement can stop us taking action, how limiting beliefs become part of our identity, and why starting ridiculously small can sometimes be far more powerful than setting another enormous goal.We also explore grief and major life transitions, including the idea that we don’t necessarily “get over” loss — instead, life gradually grows around it.Along the way, Jen brings in ideas from motivation and rehabilitation, including self-efficacy and Self-Determination Theory: why feeling capable, having autonomy and having supportive people around us can make such a difference to whether we actually follow through. If you’re rebuilding after a difficult period, questioning what you want next, struggling with motivation or simply wondering who you are beyond all the roles you’ve accumulated, this conversation is for you.Debbie also introduces Rebuild and Rise, her 12-week online coaching programme beginning 21 September 2026, designed to help people rebuild self-belief and start moving forwards.Deb's links:Website: https://www.myresilienceclub.com/rebuild-riseFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/share/1FRiCfYodf/?mibextid=wwXIfrInstagram: https://tinyurl.com/muu9t45cTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@my_resilience_club?_r=1&_t=ZN-99LHve9QSwQFollow me on:YouTube: / @beyondfearpodcastInstagram: / jensummers666 Facebook: / wrexhammassageLinkedIn: / jen-summersTikTok: / jensummers666Listen to the Beyond FEAR Podcast on:Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/5rBFWE22Uzuka60AyWLtIVApple: https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/beyond-fear-podcast/id1762414519
