    Race, Rock, and Elvis: A Conversation with Professor Michael Bertrand

    In this episode, we chat with Professor Michael Bertrand all about Race, Rock, and Elvis. We discuss topics ranging from the influence on Elvis' music, how he was a bridge for race relations in the post-war south, and why rock 'n' roll and Elvis appeal to so many people. Professor Bertrand is a historian of the American South and the modern United States at Tennessee State University in Nashville. He has taught at the University of Memphis, Middle Tennessee State University, and the University of Mississippi, where he worked in the Center for the Study of Southern Culture. He co-founded and moderated H-Southern-Music and served as music editor for the African American National Biography, and has written for CNN, The Conversation, Salon, the Chronicle of Higher Education, and Study the South.
