Sean Kipe and Jason Hoch have been making podcasts together for a while now and decided to make ‘How It All Went South’ because they realized they had collected so many stories between them over the years. They've worked together on some of the most popular and beloved podcasts out there - In the Red Clay, Fox Hunter, In the Land of Lies, and Drowning Creek. Along the way, Sean and Jason would call each other constantly, always wanting to share even crazier and more wild stories…and they wanted to make them all… but, they got busy, and these take a really long time to make into a 10-episode series. What do Sean and Jason talk about on How It All Went South?  How about renting a hitman (from a man named Guido), 1930s gangsters, runaway brides, lottery winners with totally bad luck, an eye drop killer, duck sauce killer, memory card killer, and unsolved cases. They talk about psychics, body builders, shootouts, trailer park massacres and SOOOO much more. And it ain’t a podcast about stories set in the South, y’all. It’s anywhere a crazy story happened… Sean and Jason talk about Alaska. Because, well, Sean is obsessed with Alaska. David Paul and the Big Time Bank Fraud of the 1980s

David Paul, a prominent figure in the 1980s savings and loan crisis, was the head of CenTrust, a major financial institution in Florida. In 1990, federal regulators seized CenTrust Tower due to the bank's unsound financial condition, reporting significant losses. Paul was accused of draining millions from the failing institution, using the funds for personal expenses like life insurance premiums and lawn maintenance. Paul faced two separate trials. In 1993, he was convicted on federal fraud charges for misusing company funds and faced a potential 350 years in prison. However, in 1994, he pleaded guilty to 29 criminal charges, admitting to stealing $24 million from CenTrust and concealing its financial problems from regulators. Despite his crimes, Paul was released from prison in 2004 and passed away in January 2022 at the age of 82. The Great White Concert Fire at The Station

The Station nightclub fire, during a 2003 Great White concert, killed 100 people and injured 230. The fire was started by pyrotechnics igniting flammable acoustic foam in the walls and ceiling. The club was overcrowded, with 462 people in a venue with a capacity of 404. The fire spread rapidly due to the lack of sprinklers and a series of other terrible circumstances, including fire alarms that weren't connected to the fire department, blocked exits, and a delayed response. In the aftermath of the tragedy, multiple parties were held responsible. Club owners Jeffrey and Michael Derderian were charged with 200 counts of involuntary manslaughter, while band tour manager Daniel Biechele faced the same charges for setting off the fireworks. Biechele received a four-year prison sentence, and the Derderians each received suspended sentences and probation. The Station fire led to significant changes in fire safety regulations, including stricter fire codes and a ban on pyrotechnics in certain venues. The tragedy also resulted in numerous lawsuits and settlements, with victims and families receiving $176 million in compensation. A permanent memorial was built at the fire site, and the Station Education Fund was launched to support children who lost parents in the fire.
