    Ep27: Trusting in Uncertainty

Today I get really real – honest, vulnerable and raw – with how I’ve been navigating a heavy, difficult, bit of a bummer, worried and anxiety-filled few weeks. I know I’m not the only one, and that fact encouraged me to go for it and really share how I’ve been falling into old habits, thought-patterns and tendencies myself. As fragile, finite, limited humans we are constantly facing the same questions:  How do we deal with an uncertain and unknown future?  How do we hold steady and make our way through things being not-what-we-wish-them-to-be?  What can we do to provide steady support for ourselves when we can’t *make* things better?  How can we continue to trust, even in uncertainty? From Pema Chödrön's Welcoming the Unwelcome: "We are at a time when old systems and ideas are being questioned and falling apart, and there is a great opportunity for something fresh to emerge. I have no idea what that will look like and no preconceptions about how things should turn out, but I do have a strong sense that the time we live in is a fertile ground for training in being open-minded and open-hearted." Ep25: Paths to Healing with Lisa Tokunaga

While Lisa Tokunaga originally trained in Reiki and is passionate about the power of crystals, her work is now primarily focused on facilitating quantum healing experiences. Her passion is helping others reconnect with their strengths, purpose, and wisdom.  We invite you to start the new year off by listening to our discussion about the many different paths to healing. What possibilities might open up for you? We both base the work we do in supporting others on the premise that there is no “right” or “wrong” way to do it. We all must seek out, explore and ultimately decide what healing looks and feels like to us, based on our own unique journey. Both Lisa and I hope to help facilitate deeper connections for our clients within their own Selves. Lisa offers today’s take-away as the reassurance that “Everything is ok!” and that you *will* discover your path. One place to start uncovering it can be through contemplating the questions: “Who am I? What is it like to be me?” Find/Follow Lisa:  https://evergreenosaka.com https://www.instagram.com/evergreenosaka https://www.youtube.com/@evergreenosaka Visit me at: https://www.wellnesswithjuanita.com Follow me on socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wellness_with_juanita Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wellnesswithjuanitajapan LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/juanita-nagai Music credit: https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/belonging License code: SEX8P9CEYVUGA9UJ

Ep23: Growing Around Grief with Gretchen Miura

Gretchen Miura is a mindfulness meditation teacher, grief care facilitator, and dear friend. In her work with Lighthouse Circle, a grief support group she runs with Sarah Furuya, she creates and holds open spaces and opportunities to share our stories and experiences about it.  Even if you haven’t lost anyone close to you yet, grief is something we all experience throughout our lives. Grieving for lost childhoods, past versions of ourselves, even grief over what might have been–there are so many different types of grief to grapple with in this messy, imperfect, human life. In this episode we talk about how important it is to allow ourselves to “feel to heal” and how “what we persist resists.” Learning ways to open up and allow for the complex emotions that may emerge during grief, as well as holding it all gently, helps us carry it forward. Our losses never really go away, nor do they get “fixed.” But by learning how to integrate them into our lives, we can learn to experience the closest thing to “healing” we can. Gretchen leads us through a brief RAIN practice for today’s take-away. Ep22: Learning to Hold It All

Today I talk about the power of positivity in counterbalancing the negativity bias we all have to some extent. While learning to stay on alert and be vigilant against danger helped our ancestors survive and evolve, it remains a prominent feature of our modern day brains and can cause us to feel chronically on edge, anxious and stressed.  In addition to our biology, we are facing a lot of truly dangerous and distressing challenges globally at the moment. What can we do when faced with so many overwhelming negative experiences and emotions? By training our minds to also recognize, cultivate and let in the good, we can learn to hold it all – anything that happens to us – with a bit more perspective and equanimity. The power of positive emotions – those “little” things that make life worth living – and our biological need to care for one another, connection, and community is what gets us through difficult times in our lives, both individually and collectively.  Sign up to my “The Power of Positivity: Overcoming the Negativity Bias” workshop here: https://forms.gle/JMXePJWVEJLucXGr5 Visit me at: https://www.wellnesswithjuanita.com Follow me on socials: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wellness_with_juanita Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wellnesswithjuanitajapan LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/juanita-nagai Music credit: https://uppbeat.io/t/all-good-folks/belonging License code: SEX8P9CEYVUGA9UJ

Ep21: Transforming Your Life with DeDe Spicher

Today I talk with fellow health and wellness coach and friend, DeDe Spicher, about transformation, change, and the power sharing our stories have in sustaining hope, joy and strength–even in the most challenging of times. DeDe’s experience with bariatric (weight loss) surgery was the first step of many on her remarkable personal journey from patient to coach. As she found new ways of being in the world and radically redefined her relationship with food and eating, she was not only able to keep the weight off, but has become an inspiration and guide to others navigating their own experiences. Her work explores the intersection of bariatric health, embodiment, and emotional resilience, weaving mindfulness and nervous system support into all aspects of holistic wellness. She helps others untangle their wellness journeys from shame and “shoulds,” instead building relationships with their bodies rooted in mindfulness, compassion, and self-trust.
