When Kat discovers her Jewish heritage in her 20s, she quickly packs her bags to meet her estranged family in Berlin—only to be thrust into the middle of a burgeoning global crisis when zombified Holocaust victims begin rising from the mass graves of former concentration camps. While the German government panics and antisemitic conspiracy theorists run amok with online hate, Kat realizes nobody is listening to the victims themselves, one of whom is not only peaceful—but mysteriously drawn to her. Justice: A Holocaust Zombie Story is an original seven-part fiction audio drama, produced by The CJN Podcast Network in association with the Ashkenaz Foundation and Dandelion Theatre. As many zombie stories as there are, it’s difficult to keep the genre fresh. This show succeeds in having a unique and intriguing take on zombies and uses the monsters of old as a vehicle to tackle topics of identity and belonging. The first episode engages the audience with this Jewish family in a way that feels specific and personal. The cast is solid and has no trouble getting laughs and the sound design is believable and immersive. I dig the story and look forward to seeing where it leads next!
