Why Your English Bible Isn't a "Game of Telephone"

Have you ever heard someone claim the English Bible is just a translation of a translation of a translation... hopelessly distorted across centuries like a broken game of telephone? Or on the other extreme, have you been told that only one specific English translation is valid and inspired? In this episode of BibleN3rd, Ryan breaks down both misleading extremes by examining the actual historical and linguistic evidence. From ancient manuscript roots to modern committee translations, discover how the Scriptures were preserved, translated, and delivered into your hands with remarkable transparency. In this episode, we unpack: The Ancient Roots: The role of the Greek Septuagint (LXX) and the preservation of the Hebrew Masoretic Text (MT). Jerome & The Vulgate: Why the Latin translation was considered an inspired milestone, and how it eventually became a language barrier when Latin died out. William Tyndale’s Breakthrough: The dangerous, illegal mission to translate from original Greek into English, Tyndale's eventual execution in 1536, and how his words shaped much of the King James New Testament. The Translation Spectrum: Why a mechanical "word-for-word" translation is linguistically impossible, and the difference between Formal Equivalence and Dynamic Equivalence. Ancient Idioms: What the Hebrew phrase "long nostrils" actually means, and why thought-for-thought clarity matters. Modern Transparency: How committees of over 100 scholars use prefaces and footnotes to show their work openly. If you've ever wrestled with doubts about whether you can trust the book on your desk, this episode will give you the historical context you need to open the Word with confidence. Resources & Works Mentioned: William Tyndale: A Biography by David Daniell (Yale University Press) How to Choose a Translation for All Its Worth by Gordon D. Fee & Mark L. Bible N3rd: Where We Go From Here #Recommitting

I am recommitting to the BibleN3rd mission. Join me as I refocus on our community and the journey of spiritual growth. For a while, I treated this channel like a side project rather than the dedicated space for exploration it was meant to be. I recognize my past inconsistencies and the times I lost sight of why I started this journey. This episode is my formal recommitment to the BibleN3rd, ensuring that I show up with the focus and consistency you deserve. We are moving forward with a renewed emphasis on what it means to practice faith beyond just the basics of salvation. True spiritual growth is a lifelong process, and I want to explore that path with you. Whether you are looking for deeper bible study or simply a place to ask honest questions within this Christian community, this channel is here to facilitate that conversation. I am excited to look back at our origins and build something more intentional together. 💬 Drop a comment below: Have you ever felt exhausted by works-based religion? The Terrible Fix: Why God is Both Our Only Comfort and Supreme Terror Mere Christianity Week 2

Why does Christianity make zero sense until you first realize you’ve broken the Moral Law? In Week 2 of our 10-week study through C.S. Lewis’s classic 'Mere Christianity', we complete Book 1 (Chapters 3–5) and make the pivotal transition "From Moral Law to Human Need."
