I’ve been making music for the majority of my life, driven by the melodies and rhythms I hear in my mind and my desire to bring them to life. Music has always been my primary form of expression, something I create for my own pleasure and to share with friends, never seeking anyone’s approval. I’m self-taught, with my own unique take on music theory. My creations may have their imperfections, but I embrace them as part of my artistic journey. Though I’ve experienced being in a band, I ultimately prefer the solo creation process, relishing the total control it offers. Technology has empowered anyone to manifest their own reality, and I’ve chosen music as mine. My work is available on most streaming platforms and music leasing sites.     Why Make Music… Episode 102 - “The Cradle Of Creativity”

    Where do songs come from? From imagination? Personal experiences? Politics, religion, relationships, or the completely ridiculous things we encounter in everyday life? In Episode 102, "The Cradle Of Creativity," host Willa May explores the often-overlooked beginnings of songwriting. Before the microphone, the recording studio, or the finished production, there is an idea. And sometimes the most unlikely ideas become the most interesting songs. "Re-Up Your Fresh" explores social media, digital identity, algorithms, cultural trends, and the pressure to seek online validation, incorporating a musical-cultural reference to Prince. "Lyrically DisContent" (Vol. 9) and "Make It Right (Flex Mix)" (Vol. 61) turn the conversation inward. Clever phrasing and playful storytelling give way to emotional vulnerability, creative ambition, self-reflection, and the importance of knowing when to rest, revise, and begin again. Willa shares a SoundCloud snapshot for "If I Was Your Producer Volume 16," including 4,171 cumulative public track plays at the October 30 check, with "Well Known Fact," "Linger," and "Collector of Souls" leading the collection.     Fifteen volumes. Ten vocal songs per volume. One hundred and fifty completed records. In this special edition of Why Make Music…, ThinkTimm and Willa May open up IF I WAS YOUR PRODUCER VOL. 15 track by track.     Why Make Music… Episode 097 — “Before Technology… Were We Good?” This week ThinkTimm takes the podcast back to the 1990s—literally. With a Tascam Portastudio 424, old cassette recordings, bass, keyboards, drum programming and original vocals, Episode 097 asks a simple question with a complicated answer: before AI, modern DAWs and today’s production tools, were we actually good? Instead of debating the question in theory, Timm brings receipts. We hear early versions of Painless, Telehumasexual and Silly Souls and Lovers, then compare those cassette-era ideas with later arrangements and fully produced versions created using modern technology. The point isn’t that old tools were better or that new tools are cheating. It’s that technology can improve access, fidelity, workflow and presentation—but it cannot travel backward and invent the musical decisions already captured on those tapes. The bass lines, chord choices, drum programming, melodies, lyrics, arrangements and vocal ideas were already there. Timm also walks through the realities of four-track recording: committing instrumental tracks to a bounce, freeing tracks for vocals, panning backgrounds, working around tape limitations, recording performances in real time and living with decisions that couldn’t be endlessly undone. It’s an unscripted episode about craft, proof, evolution and using every available tool without pretending the tool created the person using it. The episode closes by looking ahead to If I Was Your Producer Vol. 15, arriving next Friday, before ending with music that reinforces a recurring WDMNation philosophy: no applause required.     Why Made Music… Episode 096 - “What Does Success Actually Look Like?”

    What does success actually look like in the music industry? For some people, success means sold-out arenas, chart positions, millions of streams, awards and becoming a recognizable face. For others, it may simply mean creating consistently, owning the work, generating sustainable income and building a life around music without ever becoming the person standing in the spotlight. In Episode 096 of Why Make Music…, ThinkTimm and Willa May take a deeper look at success from the perspective of an independent songwriter, producer and creator. The conversation begins with a simple idea: there is no single definition of success. A recording artist, songwriter, producer, composer, arranger and touring performer may all exist inside the same music industry while working toward completely different goals. For ThinkTimm and WDMNation MEDIA, the goal has never been celebrity. The focus is writing, production, composition, catalog ownership, networking, sync licensing and creating intellectual property capable of producing sustainable income. The episode explores the difference between visibility and value, including the question of whether streams, followers and social-media engagement are actually reliable measurements of career success. Likes may provide encouragement, but industry relationships, publishing ownership, licensing opportunities and long-term catalog value can have an entirely different impact. ThinkTimm also explains his personal financial definition of success: if songwriting, production, publishing and sync licensing could generate approximately $50,000–$60,000 annually while allowing him to continue creating from home, that would represent a meaningful and successful music career. The discussion also touches on autonomy, competence and connection, and why creators may need to define what “enough” means before comparing themselves with artists operating at extraordinary levels of fame.     Why Make Music... Episode 095 - "Inspiration and Tools"

    Recorded September 4, 2026 Does technology change creativity—or does it simply change the tools we use to reach the idea? And when inspiration doesn’t show up on command, can discipline take its place? In Episode 095, ThinkTimm and Willa May sit down for a loose, honest conversation about creativity, technology, taste, discipline, home studios, AI-assisted production, and what actually belongs to the creator when the tools keep evolving. Technology has always changed the road. Four-track recorders, drum machines, samplers, MIDI, DAWs, Auto-Tune, laptops, software instruments and now generative tools have all made creators rethink what is possible. But having access to the same equipment does not create the same music. The difference is still taste, instinct, experience, imagination and the decisions made by the person behind the tools. ThinkTimm breaks down the WDMNation MEDIA workflow: building instrumentals from drums, keyboards, bass, guitar and other original material; finding a title; listening for the story inside the track; writing lyrics; recording guide vocals; revising what needs revision; and then using modern production tools to turn the idea into something complete enough to proudly share. The conversation also tackles the myth of waiting for inspiration. Inspiration can come from a phrase, a conversation, a relationship dynamic, a psychological idea, an emotion or simply from listening to the music itself. But waiting six months for lightning to strike is very different from showing up consistently and creating hundreds of opportunities for something great to happen. As ThinkTimm puts it: put the work in. Discipline does not necessarily replace inspiration—it makes room for inspiration to arrive.
