    The start to the 2025 preseason was a reflection of the new changes made to this team while still facing the core causes of past struggles. Spencer Rattler would find some success in his opportunity to get the 1st start at QB. However, a lack of scoring would lead to mixed emotions from Saints fans. Tyler Shough put up the most points in his outing but as the Saints twos and three's came out of defense the floodgates for points was too much for the boys in black and gold. Now with a match up against another young team facing them the Saints will look to get a win in the Dome and find out more as injuries and position battles set the tone going into preseason week 2.

    As the pads came on so did stronger signs of where the full extent of position battles lie. Kellen Moore enters his final week of pure practice and drills with a team that will demand his attention as the fight for playing time is increased. This weekend will be a chance to determine who gets the bulk of playing time this preseason and could foreshadow what to expect in the regular season.

    Kellen Moore started his first Training Camp as a head coach with little to no issues. However, the team is falling deeper out of favorability with football minds following Tyrann Mathieu's retirement announcement. The Saints will no doubt be a constant talking point this preseason as position battles are now forming all around the field. Despite the outside noise players like Cam Jordan and Chris Olave remain excited when interviewed about how all the changes are effecting the team.

    As players are taking their final vacations the Saints Staff is working to have all the pieces in place once the team reports to to the training facility on July 23rd. While a Quarterback was not selected the rest of the league was in a similar mindset as only two QBs would come off the board in round one. Will the Saints take players such as Shedeur Sanders, Tyler Shough or Jalen Milroe? Or, is the theme of filling needed gaps elsewhere the primary focus for Mickey Loomis and Kellen Moore.

    With many promises coming over the off season about changes to the offense it was yet to be seen during preseason if any of them would be kept. However, The Saints would put together a complete and dominant victory with control of the defensive and offensive flows. While not being a huge yardage game Derek Carr’s performance came in with his highest passer rating as a Saint carving the Carolina secondary. The confidence gained will play a big factor as the Saints prepare for Dallas on Sunday. With a rise in quality of competition the big numbers put up against Carolina could be the baseline to fine the reality of where this team is.

    After a low scoring effort from the Saints we Keep it True Bayou with our recap of Saints at 49ers in preseason game two. Dennis Allen would keep to his word by having his ones stay on the field for three series. This would however prove mildly fruitful with one Taysom Hill touchdown providing the Saints only touch down. What resulted from that point would only continue to bring questions into position battles as the Saints are heading back to Louisiana to close the preseason.
