First You Fear Losing, Then You Fear Winning.

Most people expect the fear that shows up early in a big goal, when the finish line still feels far away. Almost nobody expects the fear that shows up right at the end, when success is finally within reach. In this episode, I break down both, and give you the exact questions to cut through each one. What You'll Learn From This Episode: Why every "should" statement you tell yourself is a judgment dressed up as a fact, and how to catch it.Two questions that cut straight through your inner judge's drama and back to the facts. Why self-sabotage most often shows up right before you get what you wanted, not just in the hard middle. What it means when success starts to feel scary instead of exciting, and why that's actually a sign you're on the right track.A real client story of someone who used to pump the brakes on his own success, and what changed.Whether you're deep in the hard middle of a goal or standing right at the edge of getting what you wanted, I hope this episode helps you recognize the voice trying to talk you out of it. Why White-Knuckling Your Career Makes You Worse At It

Most of us were trained to work hard and try our best, but never trained on how much is enough. In this episode, I break down where that white-knuckled, gripping-too-tight approach to work actually comes from, and why athletes have a better model for it than most leaders do. What You’ll Learn From This Episode: Why “work hard and do your best” can quietly become a recipe for burnout when no one ever taught you where the boundary is.The difference between chasing external validation and building real, self-sourced satisfaction in your work. Why your career was never meant to be the measure of your safety or your worth. What athletes mean by playing with “soft hands,” and how to apply it to interviews, negotiations, and high-stakes moments at work.A real client story on loosening your grip during an intense, high-pressure season without losing your performance.Whether you’re heading into a big decision or just in the middle of a demanding season at work, I show you how to perform your best by releasing excess tension. You Were Hired For The Work You’re Avoiding

Most leaders don’t skip the strategic work on purpose. They fill the day with things that feel productive instead, a clean inbox, a fast reply, a meeting they didn’t need to attend, and the real work quietly waits. In this episode, I break down the two things leaders avoid without realizing it: thinking clearly when there’s no roadmap, and getting other people to actually back the idea once you have one. I share client stories on both, along with three practical frameworks you can use the next time you sit down to think strategically. What You’ll Learn From This Episode: Why busywork can feel like diligence when it’s actually avoidance. The three barriers that keep leaders from doing their most important work.Three practical frameworks (SWOT, Porter’s Five Forces, and Six Sigma DMAIC) to use when you don’t know where to start. How to map stakeholders so your good idea doesn’t die in a meeting nobody remembers.A real story of a promotion nomination that only succeeded because of this exact kind of mapping.Whether you’re trying to carve out space to think or trying to get buy-in on something you already know needs to happen, I hope this episode gives you a concrete next step.Resources: Start Here: Free Leadership Playbook for career-critical moments Read: Weekly Leadership Insights and join 1,000 subscribersWatch: Take Charge Of Your Career Masterclass In 3 Vital StepsMeet: Schedule a complimentary Career Strategy ConsultationLearn More: How 100+ Leaders Have Benefited from my Executive Coaching Recommended Related Episodes: Episode 91 - AI Is Here, Keep Calm & Innovate OnEpisode 80 - Make Powerful DecisionsEpisode 52 - Self Efficacy & Taking The HillEpisode 39 - Executive PresenceEpisode 63 - Corporate PoliticsMessage me your thoughts on this topic / episode here

You Don't Need An Accountability Partner

Most leaders ask for a coach because they think they need accountability. After one hundred one-on-one coaching clients and one hundred episodes of this podcast, I don't think that's actually true. In this episode, I break down what coaching really changes, using real conversations from my last hundred clients. I cover the three types of voices that quietly keep leaders stuck, why awareness alone never creates change, and what it actually looks like when someone stops needing a coach's voice in their head and starts hearing their own. What You'll Learn From This Episode: Why "I just need an accountability partner" is rarely the real problem leaders are trying to solve. The three voices most leaders are surrounded by, and why two of them quietly keep you stuck. Why knowing what to do has never been the hardest part of leadership.A simple weekly framework for turning insight into lasting habits. The real difference between awareness and change, and how to tell which one you actually have.Whether you're deciding if coaching is right for you, or simply trying to lead yourself more intentionally, I hope this episode helps you see your own next step a little more clearly. Leading Through the Forced Bell Curve

Performance reviews can be one of the hardest parts of leadership, especially when you're asked to rate your team in a forced bell curve. In this episode, I explore why these systems exist, where they often break down, and how great leaders navigate them without sacrificing trust or development.  What You'll Learn From This Episode: Why companies use forced performance ratings. The biggest mistakes managers make during performance reviews. Why "I was forced to give you this rating" is one of the worst things you can say.A practical exercise for evaluating your team more objectively. How to use performance reviews to create growth, not discourage it.Whether you're leading a team or receiving a performance rating yourself, I hope this episode gives you a new perspective on one of the most challenging parts of leadership. When Success No Longer Feels Like Success

This episode is a little different. Instead of teaching one leadership strategy or career tool, I'm sharing the story behind why I do this work. For years, I believed stress was simply the price of having a meaningful career. From the outside, everything looked successful. But behind the scenes, work had quietly become the center of everything. A series of wake-up calls led me to rethink my priorities, hire my first coach, and ultimately discover a better way to do work and life. If you've ever felt successful on paper but unsatisfied in reality, I hope my story reminds you that you don't have to choose between success and enjoying your life. If any part of my story feels familiar, know this: the work and life you've built don't have to be the work and life you keep living. What You'll Learn From This Episode Why I stopped believing that success requires sacrificing your health, relationships, or peace of mind. The wake-up calls that changed the direction of my career and ultimately led me to executive coaching. How changing the way you think about work can help you lead with more confidence, enjoy your work more, and have more energy for the people you love.
