  1. Sanctuary: When the Host Becomes the Guest

    MAY 19

Sanctuary: When the Host Becomes the Guest

Host becomes guest in this special episode of Lattes & Art, presented by J-Squared Atelier. With Madame B’s Tarot Readings invited into Sanctuary at the Cloverdale Arts Alliance, the tables get turned as Gallery Director Will McCoy steps in to interview our own James William Moore about the strange, campy, theatrical, and deeply personal world behind Madame B. Together, they explore the creative sparks that shaped the series, the role of performance and self-portraiture in James’ work, and how tarot became both visual language and mirror. The conversation drifts through fear, camp & humor, identity, storytelling, and the complicated reality that is created when self-portraiture isn't actually about the one in the portrait.  Part artist interview, part behind-the-curtain conversation, this episode offers listeners a rare chance to hear the creator of Lattes & Art step into the guest chair and unpack the creative process behind one of his most personal bodies of work. So light a candle, shuffle the deck, and settle in for a conversation about intuition, creativity, camp, and the beautifully messy act of making art. Be sure to check out Cloverdale Arts Alliance where Sanctuary is showing through July 12, 2026. 2. The Artist Statement

    APR 21

    The Artist Statement

In this solo Single Shot of Lattes & Art, James William Moore takes on one of the strangest rituals in the art world: the artist statement. Why do so many artists sound thoughtful, funny, and fully human in conversation — only to turn into a cloud of institutional fog the moment they have to write about their work? This episode dives into the weirdness of artist statements, the elitist tone so often rewarded by galleries, museums, biennials, and other art institutions, and the pressure artists feel to trade their real voice for something more “serious,” “professional,” or “institution-ready.” James unpacks how that language can become less about communication and more about class signaling, performance, and legitimacy. Along the way, he talks about what artist statements are actually supposed to do, why so many go off the rails, and why this question feels especially urgent right now as his students head into their final project and begin wrestling with statements of their own. Funny, pointed, and candid, this episode is a defense of clarity, honesty, and sounding like a real person — because art needs more invitations, not more velvet ropes made out of vocabulary. 3. The Female Form: A visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum

    APR 7

The Female Form: A visit to the Palm Springs Art Museum

On this episode of  Lattes & Art, James  & Jeff  are on the road to the Palm Springs Art Museum for a walk-through of The Female Form, an exhibition pairing works by Tom Wesselmann and Mickalene Thomas from the collection of the Jordan B. Schnitzer and Family Foundation. What starts as a museum visit quickly opens into a deeper conversation about gaze, power, objectification, presence, agency, and how differently the female body can be framed depending on who is making the image. As they move through the galleries, James and Jeff unpack discomfort, beauty, fragmentation, personality, intimacy, and self-possession, asking what happens when the female form is presented as fantasy, fragment, presence, or power. Then, back in the studio, they reflect on what stayed with them after leaving the museum, what felt unresolved, and how our ways of seeing art — and each other — shift over time. Be sure to check the show notes for images captured in the museum of the works discussed in the episode. David Deighton: Triptych Dialogue

What happens when art becomes a tool for conversation, connection, and healing across division? In this episode of Lattes & Art, James sits down with David Deighton — artist, educator, entrepreneur, world traveler, and creator of Triptych Dialogue — to talk about using art as a way to bring people together in an increasingly fractured world. David shares how for the past six years, he has created installations in free speech areas at National Parks inviting strangers to engage across difference, listen deeply, and look for common ground. Together, James and David explore the power of abstract art, public engagement, and meaningful dialogue — especially around subjects many people see as too taboo, too political, or too divisive to touch. This is a conversation about art not just as expression, but as action: a way to rebuild social connection in an age of digital echo chambers. Censored, Then Reborn: Expo Metro’s Pivot to Rome

Public art is a dare—because it doesn’t wait for permission. In this episode of Lattes & Art (presented by J-Squared Atelier), host James William Moore takes you inside the emotional and logistical reality of what happens when a major public installation gets censored. Expo Metro’s Hong Kong edition (originally slated for Dec 5–11, 2025 on Hennessy Road in Wan Chai) was suddenly shut down after a screen owner rejected the show—then the team pulled off a full, collective pivot, relocating the entire exhibition to Rome for Jan 24–25, 2026. James shares the strategic choices he made with his Madame B tarot submission—why he curated a “safer” three-card spread (King of Swords, Three of Swords, Page of Wands), which sharper cards he intentionally withheld, and the hard lesson that sometimes censorship isn’t about one image—it’s about systems that fear unpredictability. This episode is part behind-the-scenes confession, part rallying cry: feel the loss, then find another wall.   Expo Metro: https://expometro.co/en Send us Fan Mail J-Squared Atelier, LLCFor the love of artBuzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!Start for FREEDisclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. Ivoys Art: Redefining Furniture as Fine Art

What if the pieces you live with are also the pieces that move you? In this episode of Lattes & Art (presented by J-Squared Atelier), host James William Moore sits down with Ivelin Yosifov, aka Ivoys—the visionary behind Ivoys Art, where furniture becomes sculpture and the home becomes a gallery. Ivoys shares how he began building his practice from scratch in 2020, teaching himself as he went and trusting the visions in his head to become real-world objects. We dive into his signature work “Superbia,” a futuristic walnut-built music installation with high-end sound, hidden compartments, and interchangeable design elements—crafted by hand tools, not big machines. Along the way, we talk about craft vs. art, embracing imperfections, mid-century modern influence, commissions (his “Make a Wish” approach), and his dream of future upcycled works sourced from around the world. Karen Malpede and Last Radiance: Radical Lives, Bright Deaths

In this powerful and deeply reflective episode of Lattes & Art, host James William Moore sits down with groundbreaking playwright, director, and author Karen Malpede, a pioneering voice in American theater whose work has shaped socially and politically engaged performance for almost six decades.  Karen’s writing confronts mortality, political violence, environmental collapse, and the ethical responsibility of artists in times of crisis. With the recent release of her memoir, Last Radiance: Radical Lives, Bright Deaths (Vine Leaves Press, October 2025), she reflects on love, loss, grief, and the enduring role of art as a force for witness, resistance, and transformation.
