The Trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon - "Would you help me hide the body?"

“What would you do if I told you I killed somebody?...Would you help me hide the body?” Those were the words a former friend of Beau Lamarre-Condon claims he said over dinner months before Jesse Baird and Luke Davies were killed. Beau Lamarre-Condon is currently on trial accused of murdering the couple, which he denies. He maintains that both men died during separate struggles involving his police issued gun. In this episode, Wayne and Stephen examine the claims coming from friends of Jesse Baird and Beau Lamarre-Condon, which the jury heard over the last week. They also discuss the disturbing forensic evidence from inside Jesse’s home, including hidden bloodstains and an allegedly covered bullet hole. The Trial: Australia is part of The Crime Desk. The Trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon - Accident or Execution?

Former NSW police officer Beau Lamarre-Condon is accused of fatally shooting television presenter Jesse Baird and his partner, Luke Davies, at Baird’s Sydney home. Beau Lamarre-Condon and Jesse Baird had previously been involved in a relationship. Prosecutors allege that after it ended, the former police officer developed an obsessive fixation with the presenter. They claim that fixation culminated in Beau Lamarre-Condon entering Jesse Baird’s home disguised as an Uber Eats rider, shooting him and his new partner with a police-issued pistol. Beau Lamarre-Condon has pleaded not guilty to two counts of murder and one count of aggravated break and enter. His defence claims the men died during separate struggles involving the gun. In this first episode covering the highly anticipated trial of Beau Lamarre-Condon, Wayne is joined by court reporter Stephen Gibbs to break down what has emerged during the opening days of proceedings, using voice actors recreating key moments from inside the courtroom. Erin Patterson - The Mushroom Murderer’s Seven Grounds of Appeal

Erin Patterson is fighting to overturn her mushroom murder convictions, but prosecutors argue she should never be released from prison. Across two days in Victoria’s Court of Appeal, Patterson’s lawyers raised seven grounds they say undermine the fairness of her trial, from the jury’s hotel arrangements to disputed evidence and the prosecution’s closing address. But the judges pushed back on several of those arguments, as the Crown launched its own appeal against Patterson’s sentence. In this episode, Wayne and Caroline break down the appeal hearings with key moments from court, as we wait to find out the fate of Erin Patterson. The Trial: Australia is part of The Crime Desk. True Crime
Is true crime our latest obsession, or just history's oldest guilty pleasure? A brand-new exploration of historical true crime through the ages, exposes why we should be looking over our shoulders to the past with bestselling historian, Rebecca Rideal & Archaeologist, Professor Raksha Dave. Together they will unpack the buried stories of crime and uncover the darkest chapters of criminal history, from victims and investigators to perpetrators and punishments. Using archaeology as a key investigative tool, Raksha and Rebecca will uncover how a dig separates fact from folklore. Such as Otzi the Iceman - a body from 3300BCE discovered in 1991 - where the archeological examination of his bones provided a window into the last 48 hours of someone living thousands of years ago. Or the site discovery of The Salem Witch Trials, where a dig immediately dispelled the stories of gallows at the top of the hill and formal burials. Using archaeology, history and modern forensic science, Buried Evidence reopens some of the world's oldest cold cases to separate folklore from fact. Hosted on Acast. History
Launching September 19th. Mohamed Al-Fayed was the billionaire businessman who owned the iconic department store – Harrods. Together they projected an image of wealth, luxury and glamour. In the wake of his death, that image was shattered when hundreds of former Harrods employees came forward to accuse Al-Fayed of grooming, abuse and assault. But this was more than just one man. It was a trafficking network, on the scale of Jeffrey Epstein. In Al-Fayed: Who Looked Away?, journalist Nicola Thorp speaks with survivors to uncover the system that enabled and protected Al-Fayed - and the fight for justice that continues to this day. Al-Fayed may be gone, but those who enabled him are still alive. If you have any information, you can contact us at info@thecrimedesk.com. Hosted on Acast. True Crime
David Ames was a twice-bankrupt double-glazing salesman from Basildon with dreams of building a Caribbean property empire. His company, Harlequin, promised ordinary investors luxury resort properties at bargain prices – their slice of paradise and financial security. Over nearly a decade, more than 8,000 people handed over £400 million. Many bet their entire pension pots on Ames' vision. But behind Ames’ slick marketing pitch lay financial chaos and systematic deception. While investors waited for dream properties, their money funded pirate ships, imported sand that washed away with the tide, and eye-watering sales commissions. From a local newspaper investigation that exposed the scheme to the Serious Fraud Office's decade-long pursuit of justice, this is the story of how thousands lost everything betting on one man’s vision. Featuring exclusive interviews with victims, investigators, and industry insiders, The Lost Caribbean Millions reveals the human cost of one of Britain's biggest investment frauds. Hosted on Acast. Ben Roberts-Smith VC, an International Hero!

Apr 25

NickLaurensMom

I hope the probe into the service of Ben Roberts-Smith VC shows he’s innocent of allegations of wrongdoing and possibly murder. It seems to me from across the Pacific Ocean in the USA, that Mr. Roberts-Smith is being targeted by those who are filled with envy and might typically be of an anti-Western, post-Colonialist leanings. Please stop it, governments everywhere! Leave our veterans of the past quarter century alone. They didn’t cause the problems in Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Gaza etc. Our leaders did. Love the show! Erin A. in Seattle, Washington, USA
Biased podcast

Apr 17

zarfster

I unsubscribed after listening to the latest episode. The coverage of the Ben Roberts-Smith arrest and charges was completely biased in his favour. Downplaying the crimes and the prior civil trial finding of substantial truth. The bias was demonstrated by the host stating ‘these charges seem ridiculous’. The job of a host is to be objective, regardless of their personal feelings. Lack of favour is particularly important as the matter is before the courts. Read the judgment and books. Watch the documentaries. There is a case to be answered. Yes innocent until proven guilty but justifiably before the courts.
Decent coverage but text noise is unbearable

I like this better than the 6 minute daily trial summaries elsewhere but once they reach the part with text messages the loud clacking noise is unbearable and I stopped listening altogether.
Good content, poor sound quality

The clicking noise effect for the text evidence was hard to listen to. I wish the overall audio was better. The story was interesting
