How Do You Keep Going When You Feel Weak? | Revelation 3:7–13

Philadelphia has little strength, and Jesus has no rebuke for it. In this sermon, Pastor Sam Sutter explores how his letter in Revelation 3:7-13 offers encouragement to Christians who are tired and wondering whether their faithfulness amounts to much. Some weeks, obedience means doing the same hard thing again. You keep your word, show up for somebody, or pray when you have very little left to say. Jesus sees a church that has kept his word and refused to deny his name. He holds the key, and the door he opens cannot be shut. This Church Reviews message considers Christ's promises of belonging and a permanent home with God. We ask what it means to hold on when other people seem to have more influence, resources, or strength. Sermon chapters: 00:00 A rough week and a losing streak 01:26 When life leaves you feeling weak 02:18 When a crisis becomes a long struggle 03:58 Philadelphia: a city of aftershocks 06:21 Jesus is holy and true 07:11 What the key of David means 10:05 Jesus holds the key to belonging 10:32 Jesus sees your faithfulness 11:42 The door opens before strength returns 12:58 Open doors to serve our neighbors 15:24 You keep his word; he keeps you 18:05 A permanent place and a new name 20:47 Which voices deserve your trust? 22:31 Keep going: Jesus holds on to you 24:05 Christ became weak to make us strong 25:21 Closing prayer: hold us in your hands Watch the whole service from the sermon notes and video page linked below. What If Your Faith Feels Dead? | Revelation 3:1–6

Jesus tells Sardis, a church with a reputation for being alive, that it is dead. Revelation 3:1-6 asks whether the story people tell about our faith still describes the life we're living. A church can keep its calendar full long after it stops depending on Christ. An individual can do the same. We can remember when prayer mattered, when we took a risk to obey, or when we expected God to work, and assume those memories describe us now. This Church Reviews sermon follows Jesus' call to wake up and strengthen what remains. He directs Sardis back to the gospel it received and promises to acknowledge his people before the Father. Sermon chapters 00:00 Vibrant color, dead leaves 02:10 Looking fine while something is wrong 03:49 What Jesus sees in a church 05:28 Sardis: living on an old reputation 07:16 Revelation 3:1: a reputation for life 09:17 Wake up and strengthen what remains 10:57 The work God has not finished 12:48 Remember, hold fast, repent 14:15 Jesus gives you a name you cannot earn 16:44 Only Jesus can bring life from death 19:43 The gospel changes more than your image 20:59 Strengthen one thing that remains 22:39 Preach the gospel to yourself 24:26 Remember, hold fast, repent—today 26:41 An invitation to stop pretending 27:32 Closing prayer: help us thrive Watch the whole service from the sermon notes and video page linked below. What If Doing the Right Thing Costs You? | Revelation 2:18–29

What do you do when keeping your job seems to require keeping your mouth shut? Revelation 2:18-29 brings the pressure of work and belonging into Jesus' letter to Thyatira. This church is growing in love and service. Jesus praises that growth, then confronts its tolerance of teaching that leads people into sin. We consider the setting of Thyatira's trade guilds and the compromises Christians may have faced to earn a living. Those pressures sound familiar when an honest answer could cost us income or a relationship. In this Church Reviews message, Jesus searches the motives we can hide from other people. He gives time to repent and promises himself to those who hold on. Sermon chapters 00:00 Confession: our “unless” problem 02:22 I will follow Jesus—unless 03:18 Thyatira: the overlooked working town 05:31 Revelation 2:18: Jesus sees beneath the surface 07:06 The love and service Jesus notices 10:35 Jezebel and the promise of getting ahead 15:05 When faithfulness costs your job 17:33 Jesus leaves the door open to repentance 19:00 Jesus sees the cost of doing right 20:36 Hold on: no extra burden 22:43 The nations and the Morning Star 24:33 Finish the sentence: what is your “unless”? 29:19 Jesus loves without an “unless” 30:57 Closing prayer Watch the whole service from the sermon notes and video page linked below. When You Pray and Life Gets Harder | Revelation 2:8–11

Jesus' letter to Smyrna in Revelation 2:8-11 speaks to Christians facing suffering and wondering whether faithfulness is getting them anywhere. You pray, keep showing up, and try to do the right thing. The situation gets harder. Smyrna knew that experience. Jesus sees their poverty and the slander against them, and he warns that more trouble is coming. He also calls them rich. In this message in Church Reviews, Pastor Sam Sutter considers how the risen Jesus gives courage to a church under pressure. He knows their suffering, sets a limit to their trial, and promises life beyond death. We look at what it means to remain faithful when we can't point to an improving situation as proof that God is with us. Sermon chapters: 00:00 When Prayer Goes Unanswered 03:12 Victory Is Hard: Jesus’ Letter to Smyrna 03:49 A Church Under Pressure 07:23 Revelation 2:8: The First and the Last 10:11 Jesus Knows Your Suffering 12:37 Slander and the First-Century Conflict 15:00 When God Does Not Promise an Easy Answer 18:16 A Limit, a Test, and a Crown 19:56 Jesus’ Crown of Thorns and Your Crown of Life 21:15 The Promise Beyond Death 22:22 Name the Future You Fear 24:44 Polycarp: Faithfulness in the Fire 27:08 An Invitation to Trust Jesus 28:18 Closing Prayer: Courage to Remain Faithful Watch the whole service from the sermon notes and video page linked below.
