    Unfinished Business Vol. 1: The Burning Witch

    Hey book girlies and gamer guys! We are starting what we hope is a very slow-going series with very few entries called, "Unfinished Business," to capture our thoughts on books that we did not finish on the pod. Unfortunately, we just didn't vibe too well with this book, and we didn't want to keep reading it just for the sake of the pod as we were worried that our constructive criticism would come across as slander or hate, which isn't what we want. This week, we started and did not finish The Burning Witch by Delemhach. It's about a fiery witch with sass for days and her best friend, the princess, getting married to the king of a rival country. Of course shenanigans ensue. While the tagline claims this is comedic romantic fantasy, we weren't terribly amused or romanced. This book just wasn't for us, but if you are intrigued by any of our conversations from today, we strongly urge you to read it yourself and draw your own conclusions!     Book Club Vol. 3: Two Twisted Crowns

    We're so excited to have the one and only Amelinda Berube back on the pod as we dissect Two Twisted Crowns by Rachel Gillig. Unfortunately, we ran into some technical difficulties which made some of the audio a little bit wonky at times, but we wanted to preserve as much of the original recording as possible. Thank you so much for your patience with this. We're back in Blunder with Elspeth, Ravyn, Elm, and Ione and learning more about the mysterious Shepherd King / Nightmare.     Episode 68: And Then They Were Gone

    At this point, we're not even surprised that The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson is continuing to make Sara cry. We're just surprised that Ian, who has been stone cold during most of the upsetting scenes, is actually pretty soft and emotional, too. This sad book continues to be sad, and it won't stop until Rosalie has lost absolutely everything and everyone-- even the ones she didn't know she had until they were gone. We just have to pray that everything turns out okay in the end, that there is hope somewhere.     Episode 67: Devil's Deals

    We are continuing to read The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson, and this story is taking us to all sorts of new places between reconciliation and reckoning, trust and skepticism, community and survival. We're shifting from the difficult history of wars to the difficult realities of the much more sinister and invisible hardships of current farming practices. If you're looking to be gut-punched, this book has it all. In this episode we mention the documentaries Kiss the Ground, Common Ground, and Groundswell which offer deep dives into regenerative agriculture and how the soils of the world came to be the way that they are. They're emotional and motivational watches for anyone interested.     Episode 66: Conditional Forgiveness

    Right of the bat we have two very important warnings for the sensitive-eared listeners: (1) Sara is sick and definitely sounds like it in this, and (2) Sara cries. If you don't like the sounds of that, then maybe wait for the recap next week. We continue to read The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson, and it is a bit of a gut-punch, but definitely the wakeup call that we need. Who decides who is forgiven? Which sins are acceptable? Who decides the conditions of the apologies? And what if the apology isn't genuine? We see this in the parallel stories of Rosalie Iron Wing and Marie Blackbird, and it never gets any easier.     Episode 65: Unforgivable Choices in Unfair Circumstances

    The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson continues to be thought-provoking and emotionally tugging. It is difficult to see the countless losses that Rosalie endures, that the Dakota people endure, and we wonder if there is ever an end? Will there ever be justice? Is there a way to move forward after learning who you really are, and who you are really married to? This week marks the turning point for John and Rosalie's relationship, and we are saddened and worried about where it will go from here.     Episode 64: Sins of the Father

    As we finish up the "Dormancy" section of The Seed Keeper by Diane Wilson, we find ourselves getting caught up in the beauty of the prose and the layered sadness described therein. Rosalie eventually has to make a choice about her identity and her life, and often it seems like she doesn't have any options. Similarly, we learn a little bit about the U. S. - Dakota War of 1862, and how the indigenous nations also felt as if they were backed into a corner with limited choices, if any at all. The choice is to survive, but sometimes that survival comes at the cost of who you are. As promised, this book gets VERY heavy very quickly. For those of you that struggle to listen to people cry, Sara is trying her best to keep it together, but this will definitely not be the last time she cries during this book (sorry!)
