Ep. 17 - Setting a New Standard of Training & Culture: Year One at Relentless Collective w/ Jackson Hayes

As we approach Relentless Collective’s one year anniversary on July 11th, I sat down with owner, Jackson Hayes, for a real conversation about what this first year has looked like running a gym and sports performance facility for the first time.  We get into the raw details of his biggest lessons, biggest challenges, and what he's most grateful for. We talk about what makes us different at Relentless — from our sports performance to adult training — and why people who have experienced other facilities and coaching keep finding their way here and staying. We are filling the gaps and doing what most places aren’t.  The best part of this conversation is where it ended up. Two former Ohio State football players who sat in the same linebacker room together, who both learned what it means to delay gratification for years, talking about the mindset that made this gym possible and the culture we're intentionally building here because of it. Some people have a mindset that anything is possible and will do whatever it takes to get there. Some people don't. Relentless Collective was built by people who do and it's a place that brings out that same mentality in everyone who walks through the door. Ep. 16 — Zack Hazlett: A Father, Former Athlete, and Sales Executive Who Never Stopped Progressing

Zack Hazlett is a former D1 football player who played for Miami of Ohio, a former coach and trainer himself, now an Enterprise Account Executive in tech sales with Stratus and proud father to his daughter Lainey. He's also one of my current Everyday Athlete online coaching clients. What makes this conversation different is Zack's background. He's a former D1 athlete, coached people himself and understands training, programming, nutrition, and what great coaching looks like. So when he decided to hire me as his coach, it meant a lot and speaks to what we are building with Everyday Athlete. In this episode we talk about his journey from D1 football to tech sales, how the athlete mindset translates into high performance in the professional world, and what it actually looks like to be a father navigating the demands of a busy career while still prioritizing his health, fitness and family. Ep. 15 - Darryl Baldwin: From Ohio State & the NFL to Training for Life

Darryl Baldwin is a 2014 national champion, former Ohio State Buckeye and former NFL offensive lineman who played for the Cowboys, Bengals, and Ravens. He's also one of my current in-person training clients. At 6'6" and 280 pounds, he's now running half marathons and competing in HYROX and his mindset on why is something every former athlete needs to hear. In this episode Darryl opens up about his journey from Columbus to Ohio State, the highs and lows of his NFL career including injuries, getting cut, and overcoming adversity, and what the transition out of football actually looks and feels like when the game you've dedicated your life to is suddenly over. But what makes this conversation really special is where Darryl is now. He's not someone who left football and checked out. He's someone who found a completely different relationship with training — one built around longevity, capability, and proving to himself and his son Noah that there are no limits on what he can do. We talk about what drove him to take on HYROX and a half marathon, how training with intention and structure has transformed how he feels and moves, and why he refuses to be boxed in by age, size, or anyone else's expectations. If you're a former athlete who's been told your best days are behind you, this one is for you. All topics discussed in this episode:- Darryl's path to Ohio State football and how that experience shaped him- The reality of transitioning from college football to the NFL- What leaving football behind for good looks and feels like- Finding a new training approach for longevity after his playing days end- How and why he is competing in half marathons and HYROX- The mindset shift that changes everything for former athletes Connect with Darryl on instagram: @uncledaddydarryl Get lean, strong, athletic and pain free with individualized online coaching = https://everydayathletefitness.com/online-coaching Train like an athlete alongside a community of high performers. Ep. 14 - Functional Health, Fat Loss and Long Term Growth As a Couple with Kristina Turnure

Back in 2020, I started the Life Rewired podcast by myself. Then when Kris and I started dating, I brought her onto the show. We built it together for years, but eventually realized it would serve our people better if we built separately. She took Life Rewired to speak directly to women. I built The Everyday Athlete Podcast to speak directly to men. In this episode, Kris rejoins me as we reflect on that transition, the role personal development played in our relationship, and how doing the work individually allowed us to grow stronger together as a couple.  Other topics discussed: Why individual growth before partnership matters How we’ve continued growing and evolving side by side over the last six years The difference between checking a box with your health and fitness vs truly changing your physiology at a foundational level  How training, nutrition, and lifestyle directly impact hormone, metabolic health and results Why intensity that works for me doesn’t always work for her and the individualization we’ve seen as coaches  The realities of cycle health, PCOS, blood sugar regulation, and nervous system stress What men and women can proactively start doing now to improve their external and internal health Too often, people overlook the power of the basics. They assume hormone and metabolic dysfunction are random, when in reality, they are downstream of daily inputs. We are never ‘stuck’ and with these tools we have the power to completely change our physiology and biology for the better.  This episode is about growth in marriage, in mindset, and in health. Ep. 13 - Leadership Starts With Ownership Featuring Pat Coyne

In this episode, I sat down with Patrick Coyne, owner of Black Sheep Performance (Cincinnati, Ohio) and co-owner of Contrast Studios, for a real conversation about leadership, performance, and responsibility, inside and outside the gym. Patrick is someone I deeply respect not just for how he trains elite athletes, but for how he approaches life, business, family and leadership. We dive into what it takes to balance being a high performer, running multiple businesses, leading teams, and chasing excellence, while still showing up for the people who matter most in life. This conversation is about taking ownership, using self-awareness for growth, and being of service through intentional leadership.  In this episode we cover: How to pursue high performance results in training and business without sacrificing family and relationships Why attention to detail in training is the separator between average and great and the difference in getting results or not The power of self-awareness and not allowing ego to cloud judgment We are never the victim and why taking full responsibility is the fastest path to success The role mindset plays in effective leadership Channeling positive energy and attacking each opportunity instead of resisting it Why Patrick believes in being a sailboat, not a motor, flowing with life instead of white-knuckling control Learning how to turn work off, be present at home, and understand what your family actually remembers about you If you’re someone who cares deeply about performance, leadership, and building something meaningful without losing yourself in the process, then this episode will hit home. Ep. 11 Living With Purpose After Football w/ Jamie Wood

In this episode, I sit down with my client and friend Jamie Wood for a powerful conversation about life after football, identity, structure, and what it really means to live with intention as we get older. Jamie and I go back to our days at Ohio State, and we talk through what it felt like to play in an environment built on pressure, high standards, and attention to detail and how those lessons have shaped the way we show up today in business, relationships, and life. We get into Jamie’s unique transition into compliance and NIL, what he learned mentoring athletes behind the scenes, and how that experience led him to build his own business guiding young athletes through the opportunities and challenges NIL brings. From there, we dive into how our training has evolved since football. We talk about longevity, sustainability, smart programming, and how having structure in your fitness spills into every other part of your life. Jamie shares how training at Everyday Athlete has given him back that feeling of being an athlete again: the camaraderie, the accountability, the community. This conversation is all about growth, purpose, and evolution beyond the game. If you’re a former athlete or high performer trying to find your footing again, build structure back into your life, or reconnect with the athlete you used to be, then this episode is for you. 10% off Transparent labs = https://www.transparentlabs.com/ZACH69920 Everyday Athlete Website = https://everydayathletefitness.com/ Everyday Athlete Online Coaching = https://everydayathletefitness.com/online-coaching Everyday Athlete In-Person Training = https://everydayathletefitness.com/in-person-training Free Everyday Athlete Program = https://everyday-athlete.kit.com/183cb2d51d
