First of all, fantasy hockey is a niche hobby so our options are limited. I think overall, this is a really good podcast with really valuable knowledge gained and they have yet to jump the shark to sponsors so they’re closer to a 5 star review than the 4 shown.
What works: it’s a very casual conversation amongst 3 buddies, and they just happen to talk about fantasy hockey. They all seem to really care about providing valuable content to their listeners which I really appreciate. They talk about all types of fantasy hockey too, not just points leagues, not their small hometown leagues or brag about their high stakes leagues or whatever you hear on other pods. They have structure on every podcast which I also really appreciate. If I don’t want to listen to a podcast about a topic I don’t really care about, I know which one(s) I could skip and vice versa (hint: I don’t skip any). Each of the 3 hosts all bring a different element that make this podcast work and it’s really enjoyable to listen to (for the most part - I’ll get to this later). The pods aren’t super long and are very reliable about being released on the days they say they will. Other podcasts aren’t as reliable. Also, they hold themselves accountable for their takes and their “would you rather” pod which is absolutely amazing, no other podcast on earth does this bc it would expose a lot of frauds.. these guys are knowledgeable and they provide good information and they back it up by telling you when they hit AND when they missed.
What doesn’t: often times because there’s 3 of them and most of the pods are done via Google or whatever they use, there’s a lot of talking over each other, which can be frustrating to the listener. The group laughing after their intro is just a part I skip thru every episode as with the annoying intro. But I get it, they want it to be catchy or whatever, it’s their thing they can do what they want, I’m just not listening to it bc I listen to be entertained and informed. The last part that doesn’t work for me is the way one host talks. It’s like, like like, you know like, very like, I don’t know you’ll either like like it or like you won’t like like it.. the last 5 episodes all I hear is the word like. It’s been brutal and it takes away from why I started listening to them in the first place. Maybe I’m being trolled, but if you’re a podcast host, I feel like you should self reflect on how you speak on your pod & it seems like that doesn’t happen. I’m not going to not listen, but it does have an impact on whether or not I’ll listen during the offseason.
Overall, again it’s a really good pod. Am I being too harsh? Maybe. But for a podcast that ticks so many good boxes and clamors for reviews on all platforms, if you’re not going to take the feedback you request and do something with it, then don’t ask #BangGang. Looking forward to next year’s podcasts! Wooooooo?
