Ep94 Always Bloated, Tired & Anxious? Your Gut Could Be the Missing Piece

Have you ever noticed that stress seems to show up in your stomach? Perhaps you lose your appetite before a big meeting. Maybe anxiety leaves you craving sugar or comfort food. Or you notice more bloating, constipation, reflux or digestive discomfort when life feels particularly busy. That’s because your brain and gut are constantly communicating. In this episode of the Happy Thriving Mums podcast Amanda explores the gut-brain connection and why it can become even more important during perimenopause. During perimenopause, fluctuating oestrogen, disrupted sleep, increased stress and changes in inflammation can all influence this conversation. It’s one reason why many women in their 40s and beyond may experience changes in digestion, food tolerance, bowel habits, energy and emotional wellbeing—and simply find themselves thinking: “I don’t quite feel like myself.” In this episode, Amanda shares: 👉What the gut-brain connection is and how your brain and gut communicate👉Why stress can affect digestion, appetite and gut symptoms👉How the pressures of motherhood and constantly being “on” can influence your body👉Why perimenopause may bring changes to digestion and gut health👉How fluctuating oestrogen can affect the gut microbiome and gut lining👉Why your gut microbiome matters for immune, gut and brain health👉How food provides information for both your body and the bacteria that support your health👉Why looking after your gut isn’t only about what you eat👉Three simple ways to support your gut-brain connection without chasing perfection Because supporting your gut isn’t about achieving perfect digestion or following another restrictive health plan. It’s about creating the conditions where your brain and body can communicate more effectively—and work together rather than against one another. If you’re a busy mum navigating perimenopause, feeling stressed, overwhelmed or unlike yourself, this episode will help you understand why your body may be responding the way it is—and remind you that small, consistent habits can make a meaningful difference. Remember, thriving isn’t about feeling happy all the time or having everything together. It’s about building the habits, strength and resilience that help you keep moving forward—even when life feels messy. Ep93 Five Surprising Things That Made My Summer Holidays Easier as a Mum

Summer holidays can sound idyllic in theory: lazy mornings, family adventures, endless sunshine and making beautiful memories together. But real life? It can be a little different. If you’re a mum, you’ll know that six weeks of school holidays can also mean sibling arguments, constant snacks, screen-time negotiations, keeping everyone entertained, and the feeling that you’re somehow responsible for making every day amazing. And when you’re already navigating the mental load, work, family life and the changes of perimenopause, it can all feel a little too much. In this episode of Happy Thriving Mums, I’m sharing five surprisingly simple things I’ve done differently this summer that have genuinely made the holidays feel lighter, calmer and more enjoyable. Not because I’ve suddenly mastered motherhood. Far from it! But because I’ve stopped trying to make the summer perfect and started paying attention to the small things that help me feel better too. We’ll explore: ✨ Planning without over-planning – why having a loose plan with plenty of buffer time has worked so much better for me than either having every day organised or having no plan at all. ✨ Creating little luxuries – the simple pleasures, from a frothy coffee to eating dinner outside, that can make an ordinary day feel a little more special. ✨ Decluttering your physical space – and why clearing out the things you’ve been putting off can create more than physical space; it can create mental space too. ✨ Actually allowing yourself to rest – stepping away from the constant doing and giving yourself permission to sit, read, watch a film or simply be with your family. ✨ Saying yes to fun – letting go of the need to be practical, sensible or organised all the time and allowing yourself to join in with the moments your children will remember. Along the way, I’ll also share the three things I come back to again and again to help me feel more grounded through the summer. Looking after yourself in motherhood doesn't always need to mean adding another thing to your to do list. Sometimes it means doing less, noticing more and giving yourself permission to enjoy the life you’re already living. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the summer holidays, choose just one of these ideas to try this week. You might be surprised by how much difference a small shift can make. Ep92 Three Things That Keep Your Body Young After 40 (that no body talks about)

What does it really mean to stay healthy, strong and independent after 40? When we think about fitness in midlife, the conversation often centres around weight loss, calories, hormones and strength training. While building muscle is incredibly important during perimenopause, true vitality is about so much more than how we look. In this episode of Perimenopause, Motherhood and Welness for Happy Thriving Mums, we're exploring how to build a body you trust, one that helps you feel confident, capable and ready for whatever life throws your way. Amanda shares three often-overlooked markers of healthy aging that can help you move with confidence, improve your brain-body connection and support your long term wellbeing through perimenopause and beyond. This episode is a reminder that fitness isn't about chasing the body you had in your twenties, it's about building the strength, resilience and confidence to enjoy the life you're living now. This episode covers: Why vitality is about capability, not just appearance How to shift your focus from weight loss to healthy ageing Why speed is an important but often forgotten part of fitness after 40 How improving your brain-body connection supports confidence and movement Why balance training becomes increasingly important during perimenopause What your vestibular system is and how it helps prevent falls and improve coordination Fun, practical ways to improve reaction time, coordination and mobility Why movement should feel joyful and not like punishment How building a capable body can help you stay active, independent and adventurous for years to come As women move through perimenopause, our goals often begin to shift. Rather than exercising purely to change how we look, we can start training for the life we want to live. That means developing: ✔️ Strength ✔️ Speed ✔️ Balance ✔️ Coordination ✔️ Confidence Because don’t you want a  body that allows you to say yes to adventures, play with your children, travel confidently and move through life with ease? If today's episode resonated with you, I'd love you to follow the podcast, leave a review, or share it with another mum who might need to hear this conversation. 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇 ✨ Sign up for my newsletter 💖and I’ll share my favourite simple tips to support you wherever you are in your perimenopause and motherhood journey. Ep 90 Alcohol and Perimenopause: Why Your Evening Glass Feels Different Now

Have you noticed that alcohol affects you differently than it used to? Maybe one glass of wine now leaves you waking at 3am, feeling anxious, exhausted or irritable the next day. If you're in your 40s and navigating perimenopause, you're not imagining it. In this episode of Happy Thriving Mums, Amanda explores the relationship between alcohol and perimenopause, explaining why hormonal changes can make your body respond differently to alcohol and how this can impact your sleep, mood, energy and blood sugar. This isn't an episode about giving up alcohol or feeling guilty for enjoying a drink. Instead, it's an invitation to become curious about what your body is telling you and to make choices that help you feel your best. Amanda explores: ✨ Why alcohol affects women differently during perimenopause✨ The connection between oestrogen, alcohol metabolism and hormone changes✨ How alcohol can impact your sleep quality and contribute to 2–3am waking✨ The link between alcohol, blood sugar, cravings and energy crashes✨ Why that evening glass of wine often represents something deeper than the drink itself✨ Simple experiments to help you discover what works best for your body✨ Ways to create that "Friday night feeling" without relying on alcohol Your body isn't working against you, it's changing. Perimenopause is an opportunity to listen more closely to what helps you feel energised, calm and confident. Rather than focusing on restriction, focus on curiosity. Small changes can have a big impact on how you sleep, how you feel and how you show up every day. Ep 87 Interview with Leah Wren: "There is always a glimmer, a spark, a twinkle in the dark."

In today’s episode of Happy Thriving Mums Amanda is joined by Leah Wren. Leah shares her remarkable journey through personal tragedy, motherhood, and building a life of purpose. Leah explains how she transformed adversity into a legacy of hope, permission, and empowerment for women. Leah’s insight is moving, grounded and inspiring: sometimes, it’s in the deepest pain that we find the clarity to choose differently.  To say yes to a life that feels authentic, even if it means breaking the old rules.
