How to Pray for Your Child When They Fail: Turning Failure Into Growth | Ep. 106

How to Pray for Your Child When They Fail: Turning Failure Into Growth What if your child's failure isn't simply something you need to fix? As mothers, protecting our children is instinctive. When they struggle, make mistakes, experience disappointment, or fail, we may immediately want to step in and make things better. But failure is part of growing up—and it can also become an opportunity for spiritual and character growth. In this episode, Charity Rios encourages moms to bring their children's failures to God in prayer and ask Him to use difficult experiences to develop qualities that will strengthen their children for the future. When our children fail, our first response may be to rescue, correct, or protect them from the consequences. Prayer gives us another response. Instead of only praying for the situation to change, we can pray about what God might be developing in our child's heart through the experience. Failure can become an opportunity to pray for greater faith, adaptability, integrity, and perseverance. Prayer doesn't necessarily mean asking God to prevent every difficult experience our children encounter. Sometimes we can ask God to use those experiences to refine their character and deepen their faith. Rather than seeing failure only as disappointment, moms can begin asking: What might my child learn from this? How can I pray for their heart? What character qualities could God develop through this experience? How can I respond in a way that points my child toward God? Charity introduces the FAIL acronym as a simple way to remember four areas to pray over when your child is experiencing failure. Pray that your child's faith would grow through difficult circumstances. Trials and disappointments can challenge what we believe, but they can also become opportunities for faith to be strengthened and refined. Pray for your child to learn how to respond when things don't go according to plan. Adaptability and resilience help children navigate disappointment, change, mistakes, and unexpected circumstances without giving up. Pray that your child would develop integrity and become someone who can be trusted—even when things don't go their way. Failure can reveal areas where character needs to grow, giving parents an opportunity to pray for honesty, responsibility, and integrity. Pray for perseverance and patience when your child faces difficulty. Growth rarely happens instantly. Learning to endure challenges can help children develop perseverance rather than giving up when something becomes difficult. Before praying for your child, take a moment to slow down. Charity discusses using breath work as a way to become more present and focused before entering prayer. Rather than rushing from one task to another, taking a few intentional breaths can help you quiet your mind and turn your attention toward God. Then bring your child's situation before Him. Instead of immediately asking God to remove the problem, consider praying: “God, what do You want to develop in my child through this experience?” Then pray specifically for their: Faith Adaptability Integrity Perseverance You can also ask God to show you how you should respond as their mother. Your child's failure may feel significant in the moment. But one difficult experience does not define your child's future. As moms, we can bring those moments to God and trust Him with the process of developing our children's character. Your child may not need you to make every failure disappear. Sometimes they need a mother who will pray, stay present, offer wisdom, and trust God to work through the experience. Prayer can change the way we respond to our children's failures. Failure can become an opportunity for character and spiritual growth. Scripture gives moms encouragement and direction during difficult parenting seasons. Breath work can help create space to become still and focused before prayer. Moms can pray specifically for faith, adaptability, integrity, and perseverance.

How to Pray for Your Child’s Friendships: Wisdom & Godly Friends | Ep. 105

As moms, we can’t choose every friend our children will have—but we can pray. Our children’s friendships can have a meaningful influence on their character, faith, and spiritual growth. That’s why praying for your child’s friendships is such an important part of our role as moms. In this episode of Mama Bear Prayers, we’re praying for our children to have friendships that encourage them to grow closer to Christ. We’ll look at what Scripture teaches us about friendship and pray for wisdom, discernment, faithful friends, and the courage for our children to be a light in the relationships God places around them. And when friendships change or disappoint us, we’ll remember this: God’s unfailing love is the steady foundation our children can always depend on. One of the most important things we can pray for is wisdom and discernment. In Philippians 1:9–10, Paul prays that love would abound more and more in knowledge and discernment. We can use this as a model for praying over our children as they navigate friendships. Pray that your child will have wisdom to recognize healthy and unhealthy relationships, discernment when making choices, and a growing understanding of what is good and pleasing to God. Rather than simply praying that our children will have lots of friends, we can pray for friendships that help them become more like Christ. What kind of friends should we pray our children will have? The Bible gives us a beautiful picture of friendships marked by love, loyalty, faithfulness, and encouragement. We can pray for friends who: Encourage our children in their faith Help them grow closer to Christ Are loyal and faithful, especially when life gets difficult Speak truth and wisdom into their lives Support them when they struggle Help them become the people God created them to be Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 reminds us of the value of having someone beside us who can help when we fall: “Two are better than one, when one falls, the other helps.” What a beautiful picture to pray over our children’s friendships. As we pray for our children's friends, we can also pray about the kind of friend our child is becoming. Ask God to help your child be loyal, faithful, encouraging, kind, and willing to help others. Pray that your child will be a positive influence and a light in the friendships God brings into their life. Not every friend your child has will share their faith. But we can pray that our children will have the wisdom to navigate those relationships while remaining grounded in Christ. Friendships won't always be easy. Our children may experience conflict, disappointment, rejection, or seasons when friendships change. Those moments can be difficult for a mama bear to watch. But our children's ultimate security doesn't come from having perfect friendships. It comes from knowing the unfailing love of God. Friends may change. Relationships may come and go. But God's love remains steady. So as we pray for our children's friendships, we can place those relationships in God's hands and trust Him with the parts we cannot control. Lord, give my child wisdom and discernment as they navigate friendships. Help them recognize relationships that are unhealthy and give them wisdom to make good choices. Surround them with friends who are faithful, loyal, encouraging, and who help them grow closer to You. Help my child become a faithful and loving friend to others. Give them courage to be a light wherever You place them. And when friendships change or become difficult, remind my child that Your unfailing love is always their steady foundation. Amen. Philippians 1:9–10 — A beautiful prayer for your child's love, knowledge, wisdom, and discernment. Proverbs — Biblical wisdom about the importance of faithful and loyal friendships. Ecclesiastes 4:9–10 — A reminder that good friends can support and help one another when life is difficult. This week, choose one of your child's friendships and intentionally pray over it.
