    Dad Life 87-2 — How Young Is Too Young?

    This week’s Dad Life takes us into one of those parenting conversations where there really doesn’t seem to be a simple answer. After coming across the story of a Virginia mum who allowed her 5-year-old son to walk to a nearby pond by himself, Sean and Nick found themselves asking the obvious question… Would we let our kids do that at five? And if the answer is no… when does it become okay? The guys talk through how much independence they’re comfortable giving their own kids, whether age is even the best way of judging when a child is ready, and how much things like where you live, the distance involved and the individual kid should factor into that decision. Then there’s the slightly awkward bit… Because when Sean and Nick think back to what they were doing as young’uns, things were definitely a little different. 😂 Were kids given more freedom back then? Are parents more cautious now? Or were our parents just slightly more relaxed about whether we returned home in one piece? And while neither of the guys is completely comfortable with the idea of a 5-year-old wandering off alone, they also question whether the punishment handed to the mum in this case was proportionate to what actually happened. So prepare yourselves for plenty of umming, ahhing and changing our minds mid-sentence as two dads attempt to navigate a parenting question with a lot more grey than black and white.     Everyday Life 87-1 — Foldables, Fixes & Work Woes

    Sean and Nick are back for another catch-up, and this week there’s plenty to get through! First up, Apple has apparently decided that what everyone really needs is a very expensive device that folds in half. Sean is firmly in the “yeah… that’s probably not for me” camp, while Nick is already looking at it like something that might mysteriously find its way into his hands somewhere down the line. From expensive tech to considerably less glamorous problems, the guys also catch up on some DIY that hasn’t exactly gone to plan over the last week — because nothing says adulthood quite like starting what should be a simple job and immediately questioning every decision that led you there. Sean also manages to squeeze in his customary moan about work — because it simply wouldn’t be an Everyday Life episode without one. But it’s not all doom, gloom and questionable home improvements… Both of the guys have actually managed to fit in some gaming, so at least something has gone right!     Dad Life 86-2 — It’s Back to School You Go!

    For once… we actually managed to record a Dad Life episode! 🎉 And with the summer holidays over, there was really only one place to start: It’s back to school you go! After weeks of later nights, longer lie-ins and routines slowly disappearing into the abyss, it’s time to start dragging the kiddos back towards something resembling normality. We chat about getting bedtimes and mornings back under control, what the kids are actually looking forward to about being back at school, and — probably more importantly — what they’re really not looking forward to. But while we were talking about how much the kids need routine, we realised something… So do we. Turns out dads are creatures of habit too. Long school breaks can completely throw off the rhythm of everyday life, from mornings and meal times to work, exercise, gaming and just generally knowing what day of the week it is. So while the kids might be heading back into classrooms, we’re also trying to get ourselves back into the swing of normal life.     Everyday Life 86-1 — No Rush, Just Rambling

    For the first time in what feels like forever, Sean and Nick finally get the chance to just sit down and chat. No recording from holiday. No clock watching. No kids deciding that somebody suddenly needs to be somewhere. No reason to rush whatsoever. And, as it turns out, giving the two of us unlimited time might have been a terrible idea. 😂 We’re entirely unapologetic for the sheer number of tangents this episode takes because, honestly, we were both far too excited about finally being able to properly catch up without something bringing the conversation to an abrupt end. One topic becomes another, which becomes another, which somehow leads us somewhere completely unrelated… and before we know it, we’ve recorded an absolute lengthy boy of an episode. So get comfy, grab yourself a biiiiig brew, and settle in for Sean and Nick doing what they apparently do best — talking absolute bollocks and seeing where the conversation takes them.     Everyday Life 85 - Vacation life

    It’s a slightly shorter Everyday Life this week, and our only episode of the week, because Sean is away in Wales with the family — but apparently even going on holiday isn’t enough to escape podcast duties! Sean managed to squeeze in a bit of time to jump on with Nick and give us the full update on how Lyndsey’s surprise 40th party went, whether all that planning actually paid off, and what the family have been getting up to so far on their Welsh getaway. Nick brings us up to speed with what he’s been playing recently and how the kiddos have taken to heading back to school and getting themselves back into the routine. And then, in perfect Dad Crossing fashion, Sean’s power went out mid-recording and he simply vanished from the podcast. 😂 So Nick was left holding the fort and keeping things going until the Welsh electricity supply decided whether Sean was allowed back.     Everyday Life 84 - Ketchup Life

    We’re back with another Everyday Life episode, and after a couple of slightly different weeks it feels like there’s a lot to catch up on. Last time we properly checked in, Nick was mentally preparing himself for camp while Sean was winding down and getting ready for a very busy few weeks of holidays, birthdays and trying to keep surprises… well, actually surprising. So how did it all go? Nick finally gets to report back from camp, while Sean has been deep in full-on dad and husband mode with Lyndsey’s 40th celebrations, surprise planning and the usual last-minute chaos that somehow comes with trying to organise something nice. Throw in gaming, gym updates, kids, questionable decisions and all the other random conversations that somehow become part of an Everyday Life episode, and we’ve got plenty to get through. No big topic. No real plan. Just two dads catching up on life, taking the piss out of each other and inevitably disappearing down several completely unrelated rabbit holes along the way.     This week’s episode is another Daddy-Daughter special, and this time Nick is joined by his daughter, Ariel! Get ready for a wholesome, funny, and slightly chaotic chat as we find out what happens when father and daughter take over the microphones together. We talk about who is actually funnier, what on earth is meant by “infinite bodies”, and plenty more brilliant moments that only make sense when you hear them unfold. It’s one of those episodes that reminds you how special the dad-and-kid bond can be — full of little jokes, unexpected answers, genuine laughs, and that lovely feeling of listening to two best friends who just happen to be father and daughter.     Dad Life 82-2 — Things Dads Take Weirdly Seriously

    This week on Dad Life, we’re talking about the completely normal, totally reasonable things dads take far too seriously. You know the ones: 🌱 Getting the lawn stripes perfectly straight 🍽️ Loading the dishwasher the correct way 🔥 Maintaining the ideal BBQ temperature 🚗 Parking with surgical precision 🌡️ Protecting the thermostat from unnecessary interference 🔌 Coiling an extension lead without creating a tangled monstrosity Why do these things matter so much? Why does watching someone load a dishwasher badly raise our blood pressure? And why does every dad believe their method is the only method worth using? Unfortunately, we had to cut the episode slightly short when Sean’s boy emerged from his bedroom and redecorated the hallway with the contents of his stomach — because nothing brings a podcast recording to an end quite like sudden dad duty. That also explains why this episode has arrived a little later than planned. Our apologies, but as always, family comes first. So straighten those lawn stripes, check the thermostat, and come laugh along as we unpack the strangely serious world of dad habits.
