Confessions of an Interior Designer

I’ve been a listener since season one and have to say that I adore this podcast! It’s everything I need to hear as a member of the design community- to know I’m not alone in the mishaps. Can’t wait for the rest of the season to come out!

I’m new to the podcast, and I am devouring it! Came from following Caroline on TikTok. Every episode is PACKED with help & humor. Genuinely, thank you for this resource to a new Interior Design student.

I have a confession to make. I’ve been listening to the show since it aired, and something just doesn’t sit right with me. It’s not the guests—there are definitely interesting people with insights into the industry—but the confessions themselves. They feel too tailored, too perfect, as if they were written specifically for the guest, rather than being real, authentic stories. Caroline mentioned that they use ChatGPT to anonymize the confessions, and I can’t help but feel like that’s more than just anonymizing. It almost seems like the whole confession is being generated to fit the guest’s world, crafting a narrative that feels convenient and designed, sensational rather than genuine. Take the art advisor episode, for example. The “confession” about these luxurious, soulless, collectible spaces sounds like it was constructed to fit the guest’s persona and expertise. It aligns with her background so seamlessly that it feels more like a scripted story than an actual confession. For me, the strength of this show lies in the insights into the different facets of the design world. I’d much rather listen to a real, unscripted conversation with an expert—just a genuine chat—than feel like I’m hearing something made up or manipulated. So here’s my confession: I’m starting to feel like these confessions are less about real stories and more about crafting narratives to fit the guests. It makes me question the authenticity of it all.

I’m a wedding planner and can relate to so many of the stories told on this podcast about luxury clientele, mistakes made, wild happenings, and I am just so happy this podcast exists. I drive around Napa Valley laughing, sometimes gasping, and loving every minute of listening. Thank you for this candid (and brilliantly framed) confessional - even though I’m in a different industry, I absolutely LOVE it.
