    SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 27, 2026 "A Disciple's Requirements" Matthew 28:16-20

    Jesus’ final words in Matthew 28 are not gentle suggestions, they are marching orders backed by total authority. David Burgess, Minister of Discipleship at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church, walks us through the Great Commission and shows why it belongs to every believer, not just pastors, missionaries, or “super Christians.” If you’ve ever felt too ordinary to matter, too unsure to speak up, or too distracted to live on mission, this message puts steel in your spine and Scripture in your hands. From swinging by the job site after work to tracking the needs of the worship center, Mark gives a clear-eyed view of how real ministry gets built one decision at a time. We talk through the planning process, the design changes that happened along the way, and the practical challenges you only notice when you’re trying to serve people every week.     SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 20, 2026 "Be Planted in the Word" Psalm 1:1-6

    Losing your way rarely happens all at once. It usually starts with a small shift in who we listen to, what we laugh at, and what we allow to shape our decisions. From DeSoto Hills Baptist Church, David Burgess walks through Psalm 1 with a clear warning and a better hope: the life that feels steady, joyful, and “blessed” is the life that gets planted in the Word of God. We unpack the Psalm’s progression from walking in the counsel of the wicked, to standing with sinners, to sitting with scoffers. That slow fade can look harmless at first, but over time it desensitizes our convictions and redefines what we call “good.” We also talk about the tension Christians live in every day: we love people who don’t know Jesus, we share the gospel, and we stay engaged, but we don’t hand over the steering wheel of our souls to a worldview that runs without God.     MID WEEK MOTIVATION - September 16, 2026 "Building A Church Outreach Plan That Works" (David Burgess)

    Outreach can feel awkward even when you genuinely care. Fear of saying the wrong thing, getting pushback at work, or looking “too religious” can quietly keep you silent. We wanted to name that honestly, then talk about a better path: equipping people to share the gospel with clarity, kindness, and courage. We walk through what’s coming next at DeSoto Hills Baptist Church in Southaven, Mississippi as we ramp up a stronger church outreach program starting the first Sunday in October. You’ll hear how we’re planning monthly training focused on real gospel conversations, including the Life on Mission app and the Three Circles method. We also talk about making outreach accessible, with options beyond door-to-door conversations like prayer, visitor follow-up, door hangers for community events, and old-school letter writing that still feels personal in a digital world.     SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 13, 2026 "That's Why I Trust Him" Acts 27:1-12

    The wind turns, the plan changes, and suddenly the journey feels dangerous. That’s Acts 27 in a sentence, and it’s also the story many of us are living right now. As Paul begins his trip to Rome, we watch him face uncertainty on the sea and pressure on the soul, and we ask a hard question: what does it look like to trust God when life is not “sunshine and roses”?  We walk through the opening of Acts chapter 27 and connect it to Paul’s larger story of suffering from 2 Corinthians 11, where he describes beatings, shipwrecks, sleepless nights, and the daily anxiety of caring for the churches. Then we slow down to notice the people God uses to hold Paul up along the way: Luke’s steady presence, Aristarchus’s loyalty, Julius’s unexpected kindness, and the church’s practical care.     MID WEEK MOTIVATION - September 9, 2026 "Twenty Years Of Faithful Growth" (Paul Wardlaw)

    They bought 15 acres when it was basically a cotton field and a two-lane road, then trusted God with the rest. That single decision helped shape what would become DeSoto Hills Baptist Church in South Haven, Mississippi and it’s the starting point for a candid, personal 20-year anniversary conversation we think every church family can learn from.  We’re joined by Paul Wardlaw, one of our founding members and the chairman of the construction team during the original build. Paul walks us through the Carriage Hills roots, the moment leadership began asking whether it was time to relocate or plant, and why we’ve always been quick to say we “multiplied” rather than split.     SUNDAY - SEPTEMBER 6, 2026 "Reflections from Deflections" Acts 26:24-32

    A single shout cuts through the courtroom: “Paul, you are out of your mind.” That reaction from Festus is more than a dramatic moment, it’s a mirror. When the resurrection of Jesus lands in front of us, we often deflect it the same way we deflect anything that threatens our control: we label it foolish, file it away as “too much,” or move on before it can ask anything of us. We walk through Acts 26:24-32 and slow down long enough to face what Paul is actually claiming. We talk about two common evasions. Festus shows how we dismiss truth when we don’t understand it, even when the claim is public and testable. Agrippa shows how we excuse truth when we do understand it, but we don’t like where it leads. The gospel confronts us with the reality of sin and the need for a Savior, then offers the heart of Christian faith: Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised on the third day, witnessed by many. Then we learn from Paul himself. Even after rejection, even as leaders stand up and walk out, he keeps pleading for repentance and faith, and he keeps pointing to the power God gives His people to be witnesses.
