EP. 118 — Redondo Union Girls Flag Football + South Bay Football Top 10

Girls flag football takes center stage on Episode 118 of South Bay Sports Radio as Redondo Union coach Jake Jimenez joins Nick Ingram to talk about the continued growth of the sport and the Sea Hawks’ 2026 season. Jimenez reflects on just how far girls flag football has come over the past five years, from the early stages of building programs to becoming a varsity sport with an expanding national and international presence. The conversation then turns to Redondo Union and what has helped the Sea Hawks continue to develop. Jimenez discusses the importance of establishing the right team culture, building confidence and using film study to help his players recognize what opponents are trying to do. He also breaks down what Redondo has learned from its losses, Blair Nolen’s growth as a leader and quarterback, and a Sea Hawks defense that continues to impress him with its vision and ability to read the field. Jimenez also talks about developing younger players, the value of multi-sport athletes and the responsibility this generation has to help grow the game for the players coming behind them. From there, Nick turns the attention back to the gridiron with a look at the Daily Breeze South Bay Top 10 and the biggest storylines heading into another important week of high school football. Ep. 114: South Bay Prep Football Week 2 Recap, Week 3 Preview with Damian Calhoun

Nick Ingram and Damian Calhoun are back to break down another packed week of South Bay high school football — from statement wins and record-setting performances to some major non-league tests ahead. Palos Verdes remains at the top after its 35-20 win over Carson, as the Sea Kings now turn their attention to a physical Edison team. Nick and Damian look at PV’s second-half adjustments against Carson, the impact of Logan Lara’s injury and the number of weapons surrounding quarterback Ryan Rakowski. Serra is coming off a big win over Los Alamitos behind another strong performance from AJ McBean and Hasir Houston. Can the Cavaliers finally get over the hump against Orange Lutheran? The guys discuss what Serra needs to do offensively and why the battle up front could decide the matchup. Carson looks to respond against Long Beach Poly after Chris Fields III carried much of the offensive load against Palos Verdes, while Inglewood continues to flash plenty of talent as the Sentinels try to find the consistency needed to win close games. Redondo Union enters the spotlight after Rocky Martinez rushed for a school-record 306 yards against Culver City. Brady Grow threw three touchdown passes, Malachi Brown scored three times and Tyler Harper remains a big-play threat. Now the Seahawks face a very different challenge against Huntington Beach and Ohio State commit quarterback Brady Edmunds. Also on the show: Torrance prepares for undefeated Cypress, San Pedro continues rolling behind Seth Solorio, Mira Costa searches for its first win, Mary Star and Banning make their cases in the South Bay rankings, and El Segundo’s Ryan Wajek delivers a record-setting seven-touchdown performance. And because apparently football season doesn't guarantee football weather, Nick and Damian close things out with a rant about the extreme South Bay heat, brutal sidelines and one simple request: We need fall weather now. 🎙️ South Bay Sports Radio — Episode 114Hosted by Nick Ingram with Damian Calhoun of the Daily Breeze. BONUS EPISODE | Redondo Union vs. Torrance & the Week Ahead with Coach Keith Ellison

Redondo Union football coach Keith Ellison joins South Bay Sports Radio to break down the Sea Hawks’ win over Torrance and what’s next as they prepare for Culver City. Ellison explains the two biggest priorities against Torrance: winning the battle at the line of scrimmage and containing Vaughn Reinert. Redondo wanted to establish a physical identity offensively while preventing Reinert and the Tartars from creating explosive plays. The plan worked. Ellison discusses one of his defense’s best recent performances, the importance of consistently pressuring the quarterback and how Redondo controlled the game up front. Then it’s on to Culver City, a program Redondo hasn’t beaten in roughly a decade. Ellison explains why the Centaurs’ dual-threat quarterback presents another major challenge and why his young roster has been able to stay focused on the opponent directly in front of them. Plus, Ellison highlights San Diego State commit Seth Sullivan, Redondo’s standout left tackle and the player the coach says has set the tone for the Sea Hawks this season. 🏈 How Redondo approached its rivalry matchup with Torrance💪 Winning the battle at the line of scrimmage🛡️ Redondo's plan for slowing down Vaughn Reinert🔥 How the Sea Hawks' defense disrupted Torrance🎯 Turning the page quickly to Culver City⚔️ The challenge of facing a dangerous dual-threat quarterback🌊 Why Redondo's young roster continues to stay in the moment⭐ Seth Sullivan's impact as Redondo's tone-setter up front South Bay Sports Radio is by the South Bay, for the South Bay, highlighting the athletes, coaches, teams and stories that make our local sports community special. 🌯 Brothers Burritoshttps://brothersburritos.com/ 💈 Barber 2 Youhttps://b2yla.com/ 🍕 Rizzo’s Pizzeriahttps://www.rizzospizzalomita.com/ Subscribe, share & support South Bay Sports Radio for more local high school sports coverage. #RedondoUnion #RedondoFootball #SouthBayFootball #HighSchoolFootball #SouthBaySportsRadio

BONUS EPISODE | Carson Coach William Lowe on a Physical Start, Chris Fields’ & the Palos Verdes Test

Carson High football coach William Lowe joins South Bay Sports Radio to discuss the Colts’ strong start to the 2026 season and a major Thursday night showdown with Palos Verdes. Lowe breaks down how Carson has established its identity through physical football, beginning with an impressive road performance against Lincoln in San Diego. He also discusses the continued development of quarterback Chris Fields III, who enters this season with a stronger command of the offense and an ability to process the game faster. On defense, experience is everywhere. Lowe talks about a veteran group featuring Preston Leomiti, Kingston Sula, Derrick Myers, Jayden Tuioti, Darren Panton, Mikey Odell, Benny Saulter and Tytus Salagi — and how that familiarity has allowed the Colts to play faster and more aggressively. Then the focus shifts to Palos Verdes vs. Carson. It's a matchup that has been circled since last season, with the consensus No. 1 team in the area coming to Carson for a major CIF Southern Section vs. LA City Section showdown. But Lowe's message to his team is simple: stay steady. He explains why Carson can't get caught up in the atmosphere, what makes Palos Verdes so difficult to prepare for in all three phases and why the Colts are embracing the opportunity to test themselves against one of the area's best. 🏈 Carson's physical start to the 2026 season🎯 Chris Fields III's growth and command of the offense🛡️ Why Carson's veteran defense can play faster and more aggressively💥 Derrick Myers' game-saving play against Lincoln⭐ The experience and depth throughout Carson's defense🔥 Why Palos Verdes-Carson has been circled since last season⚔️ CIF Southern Section vs. LA City Section3️⃣ What makes Palos Verdes dangerous in all three phases🏟️ Preparing for a packed Thursday night atmosphere at Carson South Bay Sports Radio is by the South Bay, for the South Bay, highlighting the athletes, coaches, teams and stories that make our local sports community special. 🌯 Brothers Burritoshttps://brothersburritos.com/ 💈 Barber 2 Youhttps://b2yla.com/ 🍕 Rizzo’s Pizzeriahttps://www.rizzospizzalomita.com/ Subscribe, share & support South Bay Sports Radio for more local high school sports coverage. #CarsonFootball #PalosVerdesFootball #SouthBayFootball #HighSchoolFootball #SouthBaySportsRadio
