Jonathan Harker’s situation at Castle Dracula reaches a desperate climax. Forced by the Count to write post-dated letters to hide his impending fate, Jonathan tries to send secret messages home through passing gipsies, only for Dracula to intercept and burn them. After discovering all his travel documents and clothes stolen—and watching the Count climb the castle walls disguised in his suit—Jonathan realizes the full extent of the nightmare. Driven to action, Jonathan scales the outer castle wall into Dracula's room and descends into an underground chapel, where he finds the Count lying inside a dirt-filled box, bloated and gorged with fresh blood. Following a failed attempt to destroy the monster with a shovel, Jonathan makes a final, life-or-death choice to escape down the castle precipice.
