At 55, Sex and the City Looks Different

When Sex and the City premiered in 1998, I was 27 years old with a three-year-old and a six-month-old. My life looked absolutely nothing like Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha's—and yet, I was completely obsessed. I was living vicariously through four women in New York who were dating, working, talking about relationships, wearing fabulous clothes and trying to figure out who they were. Now I'm 55, and I've found myself thinking about those women—and especially Charlotte—in a completely different way. Kristin Davis's Are You a Charlotte? podcast sent me down a little Sex and the City rabbit hole, and it got me thinking about something much bigger than a television show: Who did we think we were going to become? So many of us grew up with a picture in our heads of what a happy, successful woman's life was supposed to look like. Marriage. Family. Career. The beautiful house. The right clothes. The right choices. The right version of ourselves. And then life happened. We changed. Our priorities changed. Some dreams came true. Some didn't. Some turned out not to be our dreams at all. And somewhere around midlife, we finally get to ask: “Wait… do I even want that anymore?” In this episode, I'm talking about Sex and the City, Charlotte York, being a young Gen X mom in 1998, living vicariously through women whose lives looked nothing like mine, and what happens when you reach 55 and realize you don't need to become the woman you once imagined. Maybe you get to become the woman you actually are. So tell me… Were you a Charlotte, Carrie, Miranda or Samantha? And would you still choose the same one today? ☕️ Bring your coffee. We're figuring it out together.

I’m Over 'Beige': I Want My Personality Back

What happens when you reach 55 and suddenly realize you don't want your life to look like everyone else's? Maybe I'm just getting older. Or maybe I've finally gotten old enough to stop caring quite so much about what's “in.” Because I'm over beige. The beige houses. The neutral everything. The clothes that are comfortable but don't necessarily make us feel beautiful. The good dishes sitting in a cabinet waiting for some special occasion that may never come. I miss personality. I miss women who had a signature style. I miss homes that told you something about the person who lived there. I miss dressing up just because I could. I miss the little luxuries that made ordinary life feel special. And somewhere along the way, I started wondering: When did we decide that everything had to match? In this episode, I'm talking about personal style after 50, creating a home that actually feels like you, using the beautiful things instead of saving them, and why this stage of life might be the perfect time to stop following the trends and start figuring out what you actually love. Because maybe getting older isn't about simplifying yourself down to the bare minimum. Maybe it's about finally becoming specific. Specific about what you wear. Specific about what you surround yourself with. Specific about how you spend your time. Specific about what makes you happy. At 55, I don't want to be generic. I want my life to look like me. And yes… I'm bringing back the little luxuries. And a whole lot less beige.

Is It Strange That I Don’t Have a Tribe Anymore? Friendship After 50

Have you ever looked around at this stage of life and wondered, “Where did all my friends go?” When we were younger, friendship seemed to happen naturally. We had kids together, worked together, shared school pickups, birthday parties, coffee, chaos — and somehow, we had a built-in tribe. But then life changed. Kids grew up. People moved. Marriages changed. Jobs changed. Priorities shifted. And suddenly, the friendships that once filled our calendars became part of another chapter. In this episode, I’m talking honestly about friendship after 50, losing your tribe, changing friendships, loneliness, social media comparison, and what it means to build a life that actually fits the woman you are today. Because maybe you don't have the big group chat anymore. Maybe there aren't weekly girls' nights or annual beach trips. Maybe your friendships are quieter now. And maybe…there's nothing wrong with that. At 55, I'm realizing that having fewer friends doesn't necessarily mean having a less meaningful life. Sometimes one genuine conversation is worth more than ten lunches where we only talk about the weather. And sometimes learning to enjoy your own company is one of the unexpected gifts of getting older. So if you've ever wondered whether you're the only woman over 50 without a “tribe,” this conversation is for you. You haven't failed friendship. You haven't become unlovable. You're simply living a different chapter. And different doesn't mean deficient. Maybe the better question isn't, “Why don't I have a tribe?” Maybe it's: “Does the life I'm living feel honest to who I am today?” Because the older we get, the less our lives need to look impressive… and the more they simply need to feel like home.
