From Broken to Whole: What Leo Learned While Standing for His Marriage

In this episode of our Standing Spouse series, I sit down with Leo, a longtime It’s Not Over client who has walked through every stage of the stand, from the moment his wife said she wanted to separate to discovering who he really is on the other side of it. Leo shares honestly about the panic of those first days and the things he tried that only pushed his wife further away: begging, pleading, shaming, and shutting down. He opens up about the turning point when he realized the focus had to shift from her to himself, and how uncovering his own core wounds and attachment style changed everything. His marriage did not reconcile. But Leo will tell you he is a different man today: closer to his kids, grounded in his faith, and able to say something he couldn’t say four and a half years ago: “I love myself now.” In this conversation, we talk about: Why the first stage of standing is the hardest, and why whatever you did to survive it is okayHow fear-based control and codependency can quietly push a spouse awayFollowing the “breadcrumbs” of the stories you tell yourself to find your core woundsWhy boundaries earn respect instead of driving your spouse awayA direct word to men about emotional support, stability, and why you are not a failureGetting your needs met “by proxy” through community while your spouse is awayYour marriage may or may not be saved, but you can be. Molly’s Story of Standing Through Affair, Divorce, and Reconciliation

“I love you, but I’m not in love with you anymore.” For Molly, those words were the beginning of a four-year journey she never expected to take. In this episode of Emerge Stronger, Melody sits down with former coaching client Molly, who stood for her marriage from 2020 to 2024 through a 14-month affair, a divorce, and a friendship with the affair partner that lingered for years afterward. From the outside, it looked over. Today, Molly and her husband are two years into reconciliation and engaged to be married again. Molly gets honest about what she did wrong at the beginning (the begging, pleading, controlling, and spiraling) and what finally started to shift things: working on herself, keeping interactions light, finding her identity outside the crisis, and learning to share her heart without triggering her husband’s shame. She also opens up about the moment she heard “He will be back, but you are going to have to wait,” why his hatred was actually a sign of hope, and what healing from complex PTSD looks like inside a reconciled marriage. In this episode: Why your instinct to control the situation usually backfiresThe well-meaning advice from friends and family that doesn’t helpWhy hate isn’t the opposite of love, and indifference isHow shame and guilt drive a wayward spouse’s behaviorWhat reconciliation really looks like (hint: it’s not a fairy tale)Molly’s advice for anyone one week to three months into a marriage crisis: this is not an emergencyIf you’re standing for your marriage right now, Molly’s story is a reminder that what looks over may not be.
