A Melanie Minute: Connecting with Seniors for Inclusive Emergency Preparedness

Season 4, Episode 25 A Melanie Minute: Connecting with Seniors for Inclusive Emergency Preparedness In the event of an emergency or large-scale disaster, seniors and people with disabilities can become among the most vulnerable – if they're not prepared. Inclusive Emergency Preparedness is part of the Connect4Life Model of life-long learning and skills development. It’s a topic available for learners of all abilities at the Connect4Life Learning Channel, our sister podcast. More importantly, it’s the topic of this Melanie Minute. This special Melanie Minute was recorded live as part of a workshop and presentation to nearly 70 seniors on Tuesday June 23, 2026. The event was hosted by Member of Provincial Parliament David Smith for Scarborough Centre, and was held at Branch Number 617 of the Royal Canadian Legion on Warden Avenue in Scarborough. The music you hear, for a few seconds at the beginning and the end of this Melanie Minute, was performed live by the Ulster Accordion Band of Legion Branch, several members of whom are in their mid-nineties. A Melanie Minute is an exclusive feature of Connect4Life: The Podcast, brought to you by host Melanie Taddeo, President and CEO. Leaders of Tomorrow: Tyara Smith

Season 4, Episode 24 Leaders of Tomorrow: Tyara Smith Leadership isn’t necessarily about those people in the public spotlight, explains Tyara Smith. Tyara is a prominent educator-in-training in the Early Childhood Education program at Toronto Metropolitan University. As a woman in her early twenties, she identifies the qualities of leadership as personability, the capacity to be transparent in a conversation, and openness to opinions. Tyara also cautions that leadership might be a lost art, given how social media and celebrity status are focused on ... creating followers. Enjoy this Season 4 installment of Leaders of Tomorrow, with host Melanie Taddeo and special guest Tyara Smith. But first a brief message about Canada Helps.org. A Melanie Minute: Seniors’ Issues are Everyone’s Issues

Season 4, Episode 21 A Melanie Minute: Seniors’ Issues are Everyone’s Issues Who are the seniors in today’s society? Exactly how old is a senior? If a senior, for example, has a mobility issue, does that person also have a disability? This Melanie Minute begins to consider some of these questions by sharing a few reflections on our own experiences with our parents or other older family members. We’ll explore more in future episodes, but remember that June is Seniors Month in Canada and in Ontario. And seniors’ issues really are everyone’s issues. But first a brief message about Canadahelps.
